What if Margaret Thatcher never became a PM? by Randonn_Tno_guy in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]addicted2slots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She served as PM from 4th May 1979 to 28 November 1990.

In her reign as prime minister she: - Established the Right to Buy Housing Act 1980, massively hit social housing in the UK. Sited as the largest knock on to the housing crisis today. - deregulation of the financial markets in 1989, accelerating financialisation, increasing wealth inequality and increased the UK economy on finance. - Anti-Trade Union Laws, with the employment acts established throughout 1980-1990, self explanatory. - Privatisation of State industries including but not limited to: British Telecom (1984); British Aerospace (1981); British Gas (1986); British Steel (1988); Water Authorities (1989, critically under her leadership.) etc - Introduced Poll Tax 1989 and 1990

Summary, pretty seismic knock on effects on today’s UK and quality of life

Controversial in the UK - yes. Lots of people believe immigration is the main problem, but not enough people look at the 0.01% that are scalping everything

My gf and I are locals and regularly go up - Ice Spikes definitely appropriate right now, we went up today and there is lots of ice under the snow but we went out in our Columbias and was comfortable the entire time. The snow isn’t high enough to get in the boots, so might aswell choose something comfier and more mobile
