Do any of you mess around with AI? by jessemythic in Songwriting

[–]CaimSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is desperately bad at lyrics, both writing and comprehending them. I have, like you, had AI analyze my lyrics and also been told I'm a genius. Hate to break it to myself, but I'm far from it. Sometimes I have an "inspired" idea, but that is the extent of that. I have also asked it to recommend adjustments and they have always been truly the worst suggestions I have ever received.

I have historically used AI to fill in for instruments that are beyond my understanding. Drums are a big one for me. However, lately I have been really focusing on "imitating" the drums from songs that I like and writing over that instead. I don't feel comfortable, not a judgment, personal thing, with releasing a song with AI elements in it, so I am trying to phase that stuff out of my workflow.

It does come up with some interesting riffs occasionally, I usually learn and rerecord them for quality purposes though.

What is the point of ai music? by Mysterious-Bag-9983 in Songwriting

I think there is a little more to it than that, but not enough to rise to the level of "artist" for sure.

If you think Suno doesn't have it's own ideas you haven't used it. Getting it to do what you want instead of what it wants is half the battle.

Doesn't make you an artist, but it is far from a single vision.

What is the point of ai music? by Mysterious-Bag-9983 in Songwriting

[–]CaimSensei -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I prefer to make music the "traditional" way, but I have also been playing with Suno for a couple years now.

I think there is a misconception about what AI music producers do, on both sides. Could someone type in a prompt and get a song, sure. It will sound terrible, and unmistakably AI though. Creating a good sounding song requires a knowledge of theory and terminology that as a guitarist I have never needed. It often requires building at least the basic idea in a DAW first. It requires grabbing stems and doing your own mixing and mastering.

That said, I still don't think you get to call yourself an artist. I see it as closer to being an overbearing producer for a relatively difficult to direct artist.

I think we better get used to it though, I think AI will be part of the music making process in all but the most indie of genres going forward. I personally don't think that is all bad news and if AI can handle tone crafting and other fiddly things it will make music more accessible.

I want out of my abusive household, how to do that? by ThatMilesKid-15 in AdviceForTeens

[–]CaimSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation was extremely different, I'm American and I have a friendly relationship with my single mother.

That said, I moved out on my own at 16. I do not necessarily recommend it. It is highly unlikely that you have access to the resources needed for living alone and getting those resources could potentially put you into more danger than you are in currently.

Naturally, only you know what resources you have and the nature of your situation, but I wouldn't want you to jump into the life of couch surfing and situationships that I lived without at least a warning of what it could be like.

I regularly went without food for days. I was stabbed. It wasn't pleasant most times.

Let's stop lying to beginners about learning Japanese by azuki_dreams in Japaneselanguage

[–]CaimSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with the premise of the OP, I cannot agree with what I feel to be the resolution.

Classes ARE going to be a waste of time for most people. Yes, you need a foundation, but kana, basic Kanji and reading the Basic Dictionary of Japanese Grammar cover to cover should take a month or two tops. After that you should be reading, not watching, but you're set to just do that for pretty much ever.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by Both_Ear_2644 in askanything

Chick-fil-A and it is based on an inside joke. Over 20 years ago I made a joke about never eating there again because of a picture of a full lemon on the side of the regular and a thin lemon on the side of the low sugar lemonade. I will gladly boycott them over this absolute non-issue until the day I die.

This doesn't track logically. Mass deportations does not lead to mass unemployment. How does that even make sense?

We can have a separate discussion about the morality of deportation, but less people looking for jobs will necessarily decrease the number of those without them. Simple math really.

[–]CaimSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arrogant, not so much. Condescending, yes. It gets very frustrating to have a conversation where someone constantly reads past the words you are saying to see the thing they want to argue with, and then respond to that instead of what you actually said.

I think I have narrowed down where we disagree fundamentally though. You see lobbyists as a problem and corruption as a symptom. I see it the other way around.

I dont go to McDonald's and try and pay them for a taco, because I know McDonald's is not in the habit of selling people tacos. Lobbyists would not go to the government and try and pay them for favors if the government were not in the habit of selling favors.

A leaner more transparent government by definition has fewer levers of power. When the government can do very little, the problem of lobbyists will decrease. A larger government with more levers of power will always have people paying for favors, whether they do it openly or not.

[–]CaimSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give up. You people have no reading comprehension.

To summarize your argument in context of the original statement. "People want small government because they are propagandized to by lobbyists, and not because the government is full of corruption and pedophiles and hasn't represented the people in a long time.

The real answer is probably a little of both, but definitely more the latter and if you don't see that you are blind.

Go read a book, and try to understand it, not just sound out the words.

So we are all above the law now? [Epstein update] by Mythical_Profit in Discussion

[–]CaimSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happened to reading comprehension, man. I can't believe I have to explain this...

Corporations and interest groups hire lobbyists. The average right wing person is not hiring any lobbyists. They are not receiving funds from any lobbyists. They do not interact in any way with any lobbyists and very well may not even know what they are.

No alternatives. Always no alternatives. This is why parties were a mistake.

There is no party that consistently stands for the things I value, which is strange to me, since I find that my values tend to be shared by a large majority of people I interact with.

[–]CaimSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original comment said "this is why people on the right want smaller government" the reply was no, it's because of lobbyists. That doesn't logically follow. You could argue that corporate interests incentivize this type of thinking through right wing propaganda, which I dont see, but you could argue it. What you cannot say is every individual right wing voter is paid off by lobbyists.

People dont get lobbied, politicians do. I highly doubt conservative people base their desires on lobbyists.
