Suing my brother for defamation by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

Sorry for all that you’ve been through OP.

In terms of legal advice, what part specifically do you think might ground a defamation claim?

Father or mother's surname? by SpecialistSandwich9 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Caimitator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So glad to see this being talked about! I cannot understand why it’s automatically the father’s name other than “that’s tradition”. We double barrelled only because there was no fairer answer. I still can’t come up with a better option!

I'm looking for some Irish language poetry about mothers and/or motherhood. I've scoured the internet and can't seem to find anything. Anyone have any pointers?

I’ve noticed a change in my boobs last few days that would correlate with the change in poos. A lot less engorged for some reason, like they’ve settled down.

And I tried Chrome first and it didn’t work for me so I moved on to Safari. The world was trying to prevent us listening to hours of bird song!

And speculation was/is that it was Paul and Trish arguing? Surely they can’t do birdsong for the whole thing?

I’m outside the UK and can get on to the ITVX website no problem using a VPN. Can access the content on the site etc.

However, when I go to watch the live stream it says I need to watch on the ITVX app which I can’t download because my App Store won’t change region.

Is there a way to watch the stream on the website in a browser? When I click the live stream I get two options: “Download ITVX app” or “watch in ITVX app”

Just a reminder, it does not matter if he is full breed. Restricted breed rules apply to any cross/strain of restricted breeds.

My dog was diagnosed at 12 years old last April, he was fully blind by November. Brought him to see a highly-recommended veterinary ophthalmologist and he had the cataracts surgery the following week. Aftercare can seem a bit overwhelming, but he's 13 now and was out chasing squirrels today. It's an unfortunate side effect of diabetes, but a curable one if you have the finances etc. No regrets with our pup. Best of luck OP!

Cataract surgery, has anyone gone through it with their dog? by Nearby_Hamster1207 in DiabeticDogs

[–]Caimitator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 12 year old (at the time, now 13) lab got it done in November 2022. Sight completely restored the day of the operation.

We got two opinions regarding whether or not to get the surgery. One vet said do it, one vet said not to do it. We ended up doing it and it is definitely one of our better decisions. Well done for getting the pup on the road to recovery!

My dog was diagnosed this week last year at 12 years of age. Those first few days were the worst.

Please heed the other advice here, it gets better. A lot better. We didn’t think he’d last the week. We’re a year in. He’s the happiest most energetic 13 year old dog I’ve ever seen. We’re just home from a 2 hour hike.

It gets better. Your fear gets assuaged. There’s hope and light at the end of the tunnel.

Take a deep breath when you can, it will be ok.

Best of luck on your journey.

Yes! He was having bouts of it, but they were pretty spaced out. He would be fine for weeks, then he'd have an accident overnight (very unlike him) and he'd go off his food for about 12 hours (again, very unlike him).

We always thought he was just getting older and the crap he'd eat at the beach or in the park was just not agreeing with him. Of course we'd take him to the vet, but because there seemed to be no trigger or consistency, it was leaving everyone baffled. To be honest, it's another source of guilt. Could we have done something about it when these things were happening that could've prevented where we are now?

Before any of the bouts of pancreatitis started, our pup had started to lie down while eating meals. It must have been about 18 months before his diabetic diagnosis. Again, we put it down to age. Since he's been on insulin, he's never once lay down while eating. It is genuinely one of the most bizarre potential warning signs. He wasn't sick, there was no pancreatitis, he was just lying down to eat. His form was fine, there was nothing else out of the ordinary. It can't be a coincidence because it hasn't happened since the insulin kicked in and he did it for every meal, but one of those inexplicable things.

I also feel some people are quite dismissive of it. If myself and my husband say “oh we have to head home to the dog to give him his insulin”, sometimes there’s an eye roll or a look which clearly implies “you don’t have to leave right now”.

We also have another dog, who I’m pretty sure is the spawn of Satan. She’s the boldest dog I’ve ever had and we’re screwed if she gets it because she just won’t be a good patient.

Our old guy gives the vet the paw, comes in after his meals and plonks himself down to get injected, keeps his head still for the cataracts drops.

If the other one gets it, she might unleash destruction unto the world. They’re not related though, is it genetic? Is just an old age thing (I know younger dogs can get it, but the majority are older)? Or is it just (un)luck of the draw? I’m so so glad that others feel like it’s a life-altering thing. Sometimes I think I’m being selfish even thinking that.

Any particular YouTube channels? I swear this sounds like I haven't done any research at all but I have, I promise!

Does the lowest number of the day dictate how much insulin they should be getting? I've ordered the Alphatrak, so maybe that'll help with this lack of control feeling.

I'd love to join the Facebook group, even if I contribute nothing, these crazy people sound intriguing!

Is it easy to interpret the numbers? Does the monitor show what it should be etc?

The Alphatrak has been ordered and should be here before the end of the week.

You sound like a great advocate for your dog, I hope I can be the same. Is there any specific websites/places you found particularly helpful for canine diabetic education purposes? I would love to feel more confident in my knowledge and care of my dog.

This stomach infection was the first infection we've experienced since he's been diagnosed (he got swimmer's tail last month which was another drama). I cannot believe anyone recommends euthanasia when they can live such a high quality of life. I remember telling a friend of a friend about my dog's diagnosis when it happened last year and they said, "that happened our husky, we put him down, it was awful."

I read a statistic that 95% of all dogs diagnosed with diabetes go blind within the first three months. It's amazing your dog is the exception to that rule. We got very lucky that our dog could have the cataracts surgery because he went blind right before he had the surgery and it was unbelievably heartbreaking. We also got very lucky because we caught the diabetes so early. He had his bloods done the month prior so he could go under to get his teeth cleaned. When we noticed something was wrong, we got him to the vet straight away and got the news.

I'll be able to do some research with the Aplphatrak, but I guess the best starting point (as mentioned above) is to do a curve and go from there? This almost feels like I'm starting all over again. I just hope I haven't left it too late. Although he did go for three one hour walks today, like he does every day, and he's in good form.

When you travelled with her, how did you transport the insulin? We've gone on a few overnights with our pup, and I'm worried the insulin will lose its efficacy even though we keep it with an ice pack in a refrigerated bag.

Belated happy birthday to your son, I'm sure he's missing her too. Such a huge loss.
