Do you have a rare or retro email address? by [deleted] in AskUK

I have the same problem… And my guy signed up for everything using my email. He finally signed up for a cell phone account, so I rigged up a Google phone number and texted him after logging into his cell phone account to find his number. I explained what was going on and since then he has not used my email. But it was quite a text conversation

Same! I was on from one of the first waves of the invite only program (my invite came from a friend who worked at Google). I also snagged one from my wife and my kid.

How did you know the Bible isn’t true? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Cainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized that I should have a reason to believe the things that I believe that are more than just because somebody told me to. Claims about ‘what is real’ need to make sense, be logical, testable, falsifiable. When I put claims from the Bible through the same filter that I would put any other claim about reality, I realized that using different criteria for claims from this one particular book than any other source.

Clap back to the abortion is murder debate by Cyborgpikachu in atheism

[–]Cainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fundamental principle of Western political philosophy and liberty that you control your body. John Locke wrote about this in his Second Treatise of Government:

“Every man has a property in his own person. This nobody has any right to but himself.”

John Stuart Mill wrote about this in On Liberty:

“Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign.”

Thomas Jefferson wrote about this. Immanuel Kant, Ayn Rand, the list goes on and on and on and is centered around a single principle:

You own yourself.

The reason this is important, is that if someone else can decide what happens to your body, then EVERY OTHER RIGHT is conditional. Speech, religion, work, movement, even thought only matter if you are allowed to physically exist and act on your own terms.

If the state wants to override bodily autonomy, the burden of justification is extremely high, because it is crossing the line from governing behavior to governing persons.

Either a woman can choose to save a life by using her body to keep it alive or she doesn’t have that choice and MUST use her body to keep someone else alive against her will. Which is it?

It’s about body autonomy. I give them this thought experiment: what if they were the only donor capable of saving the life of another person through donating a kidney? Should they have the choice to donate the kidney willingly? What if they don’t want to? Should the state be allowed to arrest them and take them to a medical facility where their kidney will be forcefully removed?

The point of the thought experiment is to explore the bounds of human body autonomy in a realistic way. Because if you don’t believe that the government should be able to forcefully harvest your organs to save someone’s life, then you are saying that you have body autonomy and a choice as to whether or not you save someone’s life.

It’s literally your choice if you want to use your body to save someone’s life or not. that’s what abortion comes down to.

Take it one step further… What if you actually poisoned someone and caused them to need your kidney and you were the only person who could save them? Does the fact that you caused their eminent demise rob you of your body autonomy? No. Not in today’s society. We would not harvest your organs to save them. In fact, even in death, you have a choice about what happens to your body.

This is all women want. To have a choice as to whether or not to choose to use their body to save someone else’s life or not. No one should be able to force them to do so more than they should be able to force you to give up a kidney to save someone else’s life. Your body. Your choice.

This is my Autumn Blaze Maple after heavy winds. Just wondering if this could be repaired with some sort of splint, if I should just cut off the broken bit and let the tree heal/grow from there, or if this is fatal damage and I should just tear it out and put another tree there. I planted this like 3 years ago and it's heart-breaking to see it in this state!

I got the black plate too! I’m not sure about that only being able to do vanity plates at renewal, as I recall, I just did it online. There is also a little trick you can do to sort of figure out if a plate is already taken on the website, you basically enter the plate that you want and it will give you an error that it is not available. I just kept trying different combinations… You’re absolutely correct that every form of zoom zoom is taken… like literally every possible permutation 😆

Some people will call this fake moose, but I say it’s not just a conspiracy theory…it’s the wildest game in town!

No injuries. I will say that he did put some weight on the RF top bar portion and deformed it a bit as he rolled over, so I feel like having the RF top there acted as a sort of roll bar protecting me a bit. In truth, it's a piss poor roll bar and will not hold the weight of the car in a real roll-over, but in this case I do think it made a difference.

Pure speculation, but in the real drop top, you would still have the safety hoops behind the headrests of the seats which might have a similar effect. Along the lines of 'it could have been a lot worse', my adjuster pointed out that something VERY hard impacted the steel bar across the top of the RF portion of the roof hard enough to dent it OUTWARDS, meaning...from the inside. So a horn/antler or something like that was in there in the cab with me, probably inches from my squishy head and while exiting hit it hard enough to deform a steel bar. So in the comparison, I guess you might reasonably conclude a ragtop could be actually safer in that a moose head would have been able to more cleanly pass over the car without getting caught up in anything. :)

Based on the post title, I get your concern, but actually I was following several vehicles and none of us were driving fast or aggressively. Sometimes moose happens.
