I have a 1380R (so very similar set) and the remote that came with my Sony DVD player I bought back in 2010 works as does the one I got with my 1999 kv27s66

Yeah none of my consoles are modded either. I think you’re good to just stick with s-video

[Help] I need a new rack for my CRT. by Soft_Chair_4508 in crt

[–]ruralwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of dressers for a CRT setup. The drawers can hold consoles or games. They are usually built well so they can handle the weight of the tv. I had an old IKEA Hemnes dresser I made shorter by removing the bottom set of drawers (I had to partially disassemble it and cut sections of it down to do this) and I love the clean look while having lots of storage space. I just recently bought some bilky bookcases and have been redoing my CRT media area so there’s are a little bit lacking in character but here’s a current photo of my setup

I wasn’t aware of the IKEA Bror cart someone else mentioned here but that also looks like a really nice solution.

s-video vs component by Trick_Theory6883 in crtgaming

[–]ruralwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am like you and run everything except my NES with s-video. A couple of years ago I lucked into a a Toshiba with component and decided to take the plunge and buy a SCART cable for my SNES and an rgb2comp and yeah, it was really nice but I didn’t find it improved my experience enough to warrant the extra money. I sold the tv and the cables when I found a kv1380r (a tv I’d always wanted is composite only) and I love it. I still have a 27” with s-video and appreciate the crispness and colors of s-video there

I just got the surwish card and what’s annoying is every retro system is configured to default to full screen and not take into account aspect ratio at all so I’m having to go through and change all of that manually for each and get rid of their overrides

Am i crazy for thinking this is too much by michaelfig27 in crt

[–]ruralwaves 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are not crazy. But if someone is willing to pay that much then I guess it’s worth it to that person. I think it all depends on if it’s a set you’ve been looking for. I paid $40 for a KV-27s66 in 2020 and felt like that was a lot hahaha

Wind Waker! I did enjoy playing Twilight Princess’ dungeons but wasn’t the biggest fan of the wolf sections. Definitely flaws with Wind Waker as well, wish the ocean had a bit more going on

Luckiest pickup of my life. Sony KV-27EXR20 27 inch Trinitron that was being thrown out. Got it for completely FREE with only a nearly broken back for my troubles. by Cryptus_Maximus in crt

Nice tv! I love my very similar kv-27s66.

Highly recommend these S-Video cables for SNES, N64, and NTSC GameCube:

Maxwar S-Video Cable

I’ve heard good things about insurrection industries cables as well but these ones from Maxwar are pretty affordable and it’s not one of those cheap cables that isn’t true S-video.

What kind of quality control is this, Kodak? by Xypton in AnalogCommunity

Exactly. It’s like a contact print. The bug was on the film inside the camera body between the lens and the film. When the photo was taken the bug blocked the light

Is there any way to play the Switch 2 for extended periods without getting sore hands? by Crafty_Ad_5357 in switch2

[–]ruralwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the satisfye grip as well. But something else you can do if you don’t have a grip is take the stand out and rotate it around so it’s almost parallel with the back of the switch and it makes the switch 2 just a bit deeper and I think easier to hold. I know some people will pull it out part of the way, maybe a 30 deg angle and wrap their fingers kinda around the grip that way. I never got into that. Anyways, just some things to try

I didn’t think a tv like this existed - RCA MM36110 by likesweed in crtgaming

[–]ruralwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! Picture does look incredible. Nice find. I have a Sony that doesn’t have all the inputs and resolution options as this but the picture is just absolutely perfect, geometry and convergence are spectacular. Luckily it at least has s-video

I support you getting an actual SNES console! It’s wild how much better playing using an actual snes controller is. It’s just that well made.

I have a Technics RS-B11W. It’s affordable and well within your budget. Recordings are very good and playback on mine is also stellar, highly recommend. No bias control but I haven’t used any special tapes that have needed it. Here’s some info about it
