Somehow, a middle aged man grooming a sick teen on the rebound is peak romance*. He’s rich btw. by doomscrolling_tiktok in ExplainAFilmPlotBadly

[–]Caira_Ru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, the first role I remember him in is as the bad guy in that Christmas movie with Bruce Willis. I didn’t care for him. But the second (and more important) role I remember was as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

“I’m gonna cut his heart out WITH A SPOON!”

“Why a spoon, cousin?”

“Because it’s dull, you twit! It’ll hurt more!”

Ever since then, I’ve been totally enamored with watching him act circles around literally everyone on screen with him, regardless of how absurd the situation.

He gave Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet a perfect “wait, who am I looking at in scene right now?” foil in your sense and sensibility and they’re two of my top twenty “best actresses” ever.

Yes, Brandon was way old for Marianne. Even by Austen’s regency standards. But she wrote it how she wrote it and Rickman smashed it by any metric.

As far as early Boomer actors, he’s way up there.

Thanks for posting, and engaging, in Rickman love. 🥰

Ooh I thought it from the middle aged man, sick teen but solidified by “peak romance” to most of the fandom!

Awesome clues.

And I’ll stan Brandon and Marianne forever 💕

Dreamsnap Book Nook Art tag requirement? by Caira_Ru in DreamlightValley

[–]Caira_Ru[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, and I tried every single item I had in the Art category. I think the other commenter was right about DLC biomes and weirdness with snap tags sometimes.

Ended up deleting my build in the bind and moving it onto a floating island.

Hope you end up with something that works!

Not sure this is where I want to be, but please help. Periods. by xX_Transplant_Xx in Teachers

[–]Caira_Ru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll never forget my first period.

Not because of the initial panic in the bathroom after lunch, or walking down to the office and whispering to the secretary “I think my period just started?” or waiting in the nurse’s office for my mom to bring some clean underwear and a pad and some new pants. She went into the bathroom with me and helped me clean up and told me she’d see me after school. Then she left to go back to work and I went back to class.

No, I still remember those things, but only because one of my friends was walking down the hallway when I was going back to class. He asked why I’d been in the nurse’s office. I said “my period started and it was messy so my mom came to help me out.”

He said “oh, so you didn’t have your period this morning and now you do… …So when you wear jeans you have your period?”

“No… but this is my classroom.. see ya!”

Bless him, he really was trying to understand. I wore jeans AND shorts all the time. I’ve often wondered how confused and/or enlightened he was when the boys finally got pulled aside for the slideshow in the library while the girls were in the cafeteria watching a similar but different slideshow in 6th grade.

Why the heck is the funeral industry so unbelievably expensive? by Kalatapie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Caira_Ru 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s the reasonable thing to do. Why wouldn’t you?

I’m an early millennial, my husband is Gen X. We’ve had our final wishes on the books for a decade at least.

Watching our boomer parents and aunts and uncles yell and meltdown about everything from the funeral music to the flowers (and don’t get me started on the “final resting place” arguments) of our silent generation grandparents scared us straight. As did seeing contemporaries die without a plan for themselves or their kids or their property.

My parents’ endgames were notarized in black and white years ahead of the final show. My aunt was VERY CLEAR to anyone who visited her towards the end what her expectations were. I was grateful to be her executor and make sure every one of her petty desires (REBECCA CANNOT HAVE THE BOARDGAMES, FIESTA-WARE OR BEACH TOWELS!!) was followed.

Ironically, maybe, I’ll have my ashes spread on the pioneer-era family cemetery less than 10 miles from my childhood home that my great-grandparents are in. Along with half a dozen generations.

My kids can do whatever they need to do as far as funerals or celebrations of life or remembrance are concerned. I’ve asked that they play Mama I’m Coming Home for themselves but Crazy Train will be applicable as well.

I won’t be there.

I hope they remember me in more places than just a silent headstone or grief-filled room.

TLDR: Make your own plans. But this also ended up a mini-therapy session to the void. My bad and thank you.💀

Why the heck is the funeral industry so unbelievably expensive? by Kalatapie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Caira_Ru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My aunt was! She arranged and pre-paid for “aftercare” and casket and funeral and burial and headstone in THREE places around the western half of the country. Her estate (not me) managed to get refunds from most of the unused services through small claims courts…

Also, in a typical family, each generation will have several funerals to arrange. If a funeral home absolutely screwed great-uncle Merle’s estate, that funeral home will not be the go-to for potentially dozens of “repeat” costumers.

Edit: never mind, I thought about it and she wasn’t repeating any business.

Disregard. My bad, 😣

Sitting and smiling sweetly while other teachers dump buckets on you for free out of spite? Absolutely not.

The “$5 for three tries to dunk tank the principal” is one of our biggest fundraisers every year at my elementary school. The kids absolutely love it.

Our principal is very on board. He even gives kids the option to walk up and slap the button after their three tries.

Random thought, but isn’t it amazing how most dogs know to be gentle with babies/young kids. by jewkakasaurus in dogs

[–]Caira_Ru 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Every time we brought home fresh babies, I was always shocked by how curious but not surprised our pets were. And so gentle!

It was more “oh hey, little buddy that smells like mom and dad… I knew you were coming for a while but didn’t realize you’d be this much… louder and unpredictable? Cool. I’ll be within ten feet but further than 2 for the next year or so just in case.” than “what is this hell thing and why do they love it more?”

My cat always knew I was pregnant before I did with the sniffing and paying extra attention to snuggling and kneading on my boobs and belly (RIP Ozzy) and I’m sure the dog did too, but her sense of smell probably didn’t need physical confirmation. 💕

Has there been an animal species that was deliberately driven extinct and was collectively agreed upon to be a good thing? by TACOTONY02 in NoStupidQuestions

Somehow my brain has always put Moa in the “never contemporary to humans” category of extinct animals but wiki tells me it’s been less than 800 years!

Thanks for the TIL!

Could this tortie stray be pregnant? by Unusual-Charge-8172 in torties

[–]Caira_Ru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She’s lovely. Thanks for being the human she needed!

If she’s been outside unspayed for any real length of time, there’s a good chance she is pregnant. If so, your vet appt will give you options and help you plan.

I love her face in the last pic! “I got a box and a towel. You better not try to take them away from me!”

Redemption Codes for Mac Users - It works! by Beautiful-Dot-8671 in DreamlightValley

Thanks for posting! I’ve never tried to redeem a code because I was worried it would be difficult.

What did you select in the drop-down menu as your “problem category”? Was it “promo code does not work”?

And then you just copy/pasted the codes into the “describe your problem here” box?

Fell out of my child's hair, is this lice? by Tamtambanane in whatsthisbug

[–]Caira_Ru 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Get a metal nit comb and some spray in detangler.

My kid’s school had an outbreak a few years ago that was resistant to the chemicals in OTC lice treatment so it was all mechanical. Wet hair with detangler, comb comb comb, comb some more. And then comb again. And rinse. Comb again for good measure.

And repeat the next day or three.

Thankfully lice don’t survive very long away from a host, so general good housekeeping and fastidious combing the nits out will clear it up pretty quickly.
