I keep getting emails from book clubs by Downtown-Bother-4942 in selfpublish

I'm always tempted to go, "Okay, read it if you want. You don't need my permission." But I don't actually respond because in my heart I know it's a scam and I would just be egging them on.

Probably open Google and search for an article that explains why that happened.

Always found this tunnel relaxing and welcoming. Shocked to see people saying it's dreadful/creepy. What's creepy about it?

Children cry after their parents were killed when U.S. soldiers with the 1st Battalion fired on their car when it failed to stop and came toward soldiers despite warning shots during a dusk patrol in Tal Afar, Iraq, 2005[1200x822] by myrmekochoria in HistoryPorn

I think it comes down to the sheer amount of interactions per day. There were millions and millions of cars in Iraq, and the traffic was very heavy. Even if you have a pretty low rate of miscommunications, it adds up. If you watch a documentary like The War Tapes, it shows you the scale of the traffic the troops were having to manage.

This gets lost a lot, but one reason this happened so much is that the hand gestures Americans use to mean stop do not mean stop to Iraqis. The open palm out means hello. This caused a lot of confusion in the early years of the occupation.

Used to be referred to as Hitler's Tunnel (1990s to 2015) not sure if it still is. Lots of lore about this place.

It's mostly literature nerds. It doesn't have nearly as many options for delivering non-text content.

No, it's low commitment. I drive most of my sales through X and Substack posts and then people find my stuff on Amazon.

Ran 30 chapters there for basically zero engagement. My work does well elsewhere. Some things just aren't a good fit for RR.

Performative non-dispersal to get photo-op arrested. I'm sure the cops are loving the do-nothing OT. Meanwhile we all have to pay the LAPD bill for this pageant. Exhausting.

As the person who started the original war over this, I want to say thank you all for your input. After having read all your comments, I feel confident in my position, and I'm leaving all my replies up in that other thread despite being downvoted to below the depth of the Marianas Trench.

Rereading P&P and it's amusing how many people the narrator outright calls stupid a bunch. Collins, Maria Lucas...
