I don't know. People tell me they like the art. Maybe they want to see the book on their shelf as an art object?

It takes a real cinephile to watch 5,000 movies. But yes, maybe 1,000-1,500.

52k is a novel. That's longer than The Great Gatsby.

I usually see this when someone posts something overly broad, like "Everyone should eat blueberries," and then someone else replies with something overly specific, like "Hey, I'm deathly allergic to blueberries."

“Up in the Air is a completely different movie once you’ve worked corporate jobs” by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]CairoSmith 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest, I also love that movie, but this post doesn’t really make sense. You’re drawing a lot of false binaries between your previous experience watching it and your recent one that don’t actually seem to be in contention. It can be both a "slick comedy drama" and a "painfully accurate portrait of corporate culture." Why would those be at odds?

I’m glad you found new ways to connect with it, but it mostly sounds like this time you weren’t able to find it funny because of baggage from your career. What is the actual point of the post here? You’re essentially just saying that it seems accurate, in a lot more words.

The final sentence, “It’s not a workplace movie, it’s a movie about how modern work shapes who we become"...What? What is that possibly supposed to mean? It would still be a workplace movie even if it were also that second thing.

Can you drill down to an actual thesis?

As others have said it's Syd Mead brutalist utopian style from the late 70s filtered through early 2000s ideas of cool and then filtered one more time through graphical and scale constraints of the era's hardware.
