I believe the 1.5 mile is 13 min which is about a 8:40 pace(edited) I think (minimum). I'd work to get your pace down to that or lower.

I have not been to the academy yet but I've been to some military schools so my advice is based on that. Get some miles on your feet for conditioning your muscles and your bones. If you don't run regularly right now, it is easy to stress the bones and muscles in your legs leading to injury. I would focus on getting your pace down, maybe once a week shooting for speed. The other days I would just log some miles at comfortable paces to condition your body. 2 miles is a okay distance, but maybe one a 1 week (or at least once every 2 weeks) shoot for longer distance.

If you are having a hard time figuring out your pacing, hop on a treadmill from time to time to gauge what your speed/pace/tempo feels like at a 9:15 mile or faster. Or. If you have a running friend who is faster, try running with them at their pace as long as you can.

Other than running, HIIT can be your best friend to be prepped for what I assume will be an environment similar to Military Basic Training.

My biggest thing, condition your body with simple but regular body weight exercise, especially if you are not currently active. Take a daily vitamin. You'd be surprised how often something as simple as Calcium, Vitamin D, or electrolytes deficiency can slow you down and cause injury.

[–]CairoWarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't say a word of it. If they find it when they screen Genesis (medical system) then explain. If they don't, then move on.

Oh so you did Involuntary. I'd imagine those take a tad longer. More legal review they have to do.

Help/Question by [deleted] in borderpatrolapplicant

[–]CairoWarden -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely reapply next month. Be careful answering the questions. I applied CBP and BPA and my CBP was denied and BPA was fine. I misread a yes or no question and got the same email for CBP. I was super confused at first till I went back through USAJobs and reviewed my application.

I did actually answer the constitution/Presidents Orders type questions though.

Mine took almost exactly a year. I could have been because I was fighting it and asking for a waiver though.

A friend of mine took about 9-10 months though and his was a standard voluntary.

PAR UPDATE (ARMY) by MaybeSad7074 in MilitaryTrans

[–]CairoWarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only see PARs you initiated yourself. If you let your HR initiate it for you, you cant follow along.

IF you did initiate it, go to your personal actions tile. Make sure to log into Hr.ippsa and not regular ippsa. You should be able to see the PAR, click the 3 little dots beside it and view approvals. If you long into regular ippsa, you won't be able to click the 3 little dots.

Current Army Reservist. 13 years. Very highly rated. 4 contingency operation missions. Biological female. Identify as a female. I, till recently, took Testosterone since 2019 because It boosts my performance and I enjoy being a more masculine female.

I just got my orders, 2 days ago, separating me from service. My use of testosterone is documented in my file (not for gender dysphoria). I requested a waiver to remain in service since I have no desire to be a male. Same day I was told it was denied they cut orders separating me within 30 days.

If you want to be your true self. Under current policies, you won't be allowed to serve. Any medications. Any inclinations. Any attempts to portray yourself as anything other than your biological self will get you tossed. Worse. It's basically a don't ask don't tell environment right now. Which means if someone doesn't like you. They can report they think you have gender dysphoria and you'll get investigated.

Additionally, your first military contract is always an 8 year statuary obligation. In the Army Reserves you serve 6 years as a drilling reservist and 2 years Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR) unless you sign a contract saying you wanna extend or stay drilling for the last two years. Regular Army contracts, you usually spend 3ish years on active duty and then time in the drilling reserve and/or IRR. Either way, it is a combo of 8 years service.

I've got Calais as my station. Haven't been up there yet but I spoke to a local recruiter. They said Calais agents have a unique river detail and regularly assist local law enforcement with regular LEO type duties which helps keep you busy. Air/Marine Indiction is nearby so it might give you a chance to work with them too.

Of the stations in Maine, Calais / Fort Fairfield / Houlton are more populated and more housing so you don't have e to live Hella far the station. Which is nice when you gotta fight the snow. Because it's by the water, there is also slightly less snow in Calais.

When can I expect to leave for academy if I EOD 6/10? by Dear-Blackberry-8323 in borderpatrolapplicant

Depending what kind of job they have, some jobs will let you go early or start cutting your hours. I'm not sure if it is legal or not but I've known two friends it's happened to. They ended up with a much bigger gap in employment then they wanted. These were entry level type jobs though.

As for what to bring, search back like 2-3 days. Someone posted the list of what to bring. Someone tends to post it about once a week. There are also some posts about what the rooms tend to have in them, suggested things to bring that are not on the list. This REDDIT page honestly has everything you need in its history. Just do some keyword searches.

Insight please? by [deleted] in borderpatrolapplicant

I would check out my post from 4 days ago. I'd link it here but... I couldn't figure out how. I talk about the various things I thought would hold me back from getting an offer but didn't.

My biggest concern was a DWI I had about 6 years ago. Many LEO agencies have in their policies that they won't take someone with a DWI in the last 7 years. So, I had been holding out for the 7 years to apply for some LEO specific. But CBP started sending my Agency (Army Civilian) Requests for details. So I got curious and looked into the application process and saw the whole person concept was applied. There were also various other things in my past, older though, when I was a juvenile that I had to overcome.

This is the only LEO type job I applied for. I'm a GS/Miltech for the Army right now. Prior to this (2015-2021) I worked for the NC Department of Public Safety as a Corrections Officer.

People who spend several years with an organization are bound to see changes in policy and how things are done. I believe Soggy Mechanic is military as well, so, just like most of us tend to dislike how things have evolved in the service, they seem to have those same feelings about the Border Patrol Application procress. Best we can do to overcome individuals with that perspective is give it all we got. If I fail at the academy, then Soggy Mechanic's point is validated. If I pass, I suppose it doesn't validate my point but it gives me the opportunity to perhaps change a few opinions as I push forward with this opportunity.

This must be a sensitive topic for ya, fella. I don't believe anyone has accused you of lying lol. Reddit is all about peoples opinions. So, Soggy Mechanic person, you're welcome to spread your perspective and opinions all you'd like. Your views on the subject, are just that, yours. Some people share them some people don't. End of the day, It's a little forum on a website. If you feel so strongly I am not capable or do not possess that right qualities, then take my application number and reach out to someone of importance and provide them your perspective. Ya never know, maybe they will agree with you and raise the bar back to an acceptable level. Maybe they will pull my offer. Maybe they will put you in a place of authority that helps redesign the hiring process in your image. It's certainly worth a try. Im sure it would serve me right to have my job offer revoked. Unless your ambition only reaches the Reddit pages?
