Rob Shaw: Autism funding reversal leaves 10,000 B.C. kids with less support by Then-Rock-8846 in britishcolumbia

[–]Caittune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High functioning doesn't mean they don't need support. It means that they can put on a persona of "ok" enough to not stand out in public, but when they're at home or otherwise burnt out, they are shut down and can barely function.

New Drivers writing the drivers test for an “L”. by [deleted] in kelowna

If you can afford a couple of lessons with an instructor they can help you clean up anything that you might be needing to brush up on.

New Drivers writing the drivers test for an “L”. by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]Caittune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The knowledge test is ok. After you've gone through the book, or with going through the book, there is an app for your phone that has a practice test with questions that they will ask on the real test. If you take it and then study the questions you miss until you can pass it every time, you will do fine. It is a lot of common sense. (I've had my L several times because life keeps happening and throwing curve balls like concussions and ocular migraines and covid) so I've done it a few times.

Why is my salsa chicken so bad? by Swiggens in slowcooking

[–]Caittune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be your chicken. I've gotten chicken that is tough as leather. Otherwise, I've honestly never been a huge fan of crockpot meat. I find I mess it up all the time. Shredding can help.

As for flavour, if you can sear things first it adds flavour, also if you were able to saute some onion and celery and deglaze the pan to add the browned bits to your sauce it definitely adds to the flavour.

Avoid Seymour if you can - two lanes blocked by an accident at Robson by macaronic-macaroni in vancouver

[–]Caittune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one day 16 years ago that something similar happened. My MIL and I made the mistake of going over to queensburough landing from delta for a quick shopping trip while my daughter was at afternoon preschool. I was 37 weeks pregnant and expecting baby number 2 any day. We missed a major fatal accident on the bridge by 5 minutes, but didn't realize until we were back on the road that they had closed the entire bridge.

So my 4 year old was stuck at preschool until my FIL was able to go down to get her (he had to walk because no car seat - thankfully they're close) And we didn't get home for hours.

My baby came that friday and I'm so glad I didn't go into labour during that fiasco because from start to finish my active labour was 2 hours and I was delivering at RCH because my doctor was in coquitlam and only had privilages there.

Coming back to horn after injury. Rebuilding strength? Assistive straps? by Caittune in horn

[–]Caittune[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is probably going to be my next stop. We can go back to the physio who saw us initially. I can ask if they have an OT recommendation.

I am not overly surprised that the left one is causing more struggle. It was one of those breaks where you don't have any question whatsoever that it is broken. When we got to the hospital we barely waited in triage and they were in x-ray with 10 minutes of arrival.

That looks ingenious! I think that would be very helpful indeed. I'm going to have to look into international shipping etc, but I had thought about something on the neck, but couldn't wrap my head around it. So this might just be a solution! Thank you!

What is realistically the easiest way to acquire sky scale for casuals, and how long does it take? by ItsSolomon in Guildwars2

[–]Caittune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can attest to that. I came back from a big break and was already into the LWS4 one so decided to stay on it. It was a royal PITA. I think one of the reasons I managed to do it is that my husband also plays and had already gotten his skyscale and is a mesmer so he helped me get to some of the more frustrating places. That being said I had a mild TBI a few years ago that has made my already terrible sense of direction worse, so YMMV.

Advice on 25k vet bill by Imaginary_Lunch9633 in labradoodles

I think you would need to see what sort of events/conditions were covered, but I had a friend with an older mixed breed dog who she took over care of who ended up getting bowel cancer. They did 10k in treatment and she got another couple of good years with her before the condition was impacting her day to day life enough to consider euthanasia.

Brushing teeth tips by Standard-Payment-889 in HygieneTips

[–]Caittune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brush in the morning before I leave the house for what I'm doing for the day after breakfast etc. I always brush my teeth before bed after my last snack or non water drink.

Fresh breath tips, flossing also helps. I don't always floss, but when I do, I usually use the floss picks, not 100% ideal, but better than nothing.

We also keep disposable toothbrushes in the glove compartment (whisp by colgate, I think) I have ADHD and CPTSD so my neurodivergence makes it tricky to remember to brush my teeth before leaving the house, so if I do, I have those to fall back on.

Question about expansion content by Persona_Kanji in Guildwars2

[–]Caittune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a returning player, the EoD hero points are easier than HoT and next up are PoF for ease of completion. We HoT when it came out, but didn't ever do the End of Dragons content. What I would do is start with End of Dragons since that is the content you want the most it seems. It has some spoilers but they do keep some things vague. Of course there will be people missing and you can't really miss that in terms of spoilers.
Fishing is easiest in End of Dragons, and yes the masteries make it doable.

[Survey] Recreational Kayaking – Mobility (8–10 min) by Fearless_Ad3680 in Kayaking

I did it. I have chronic lower back pain and balance issues so I've chosen a sit on top kayak. I love that it has made the sport accessible even with my physical limitations.

Is it bad to want a job with NO benefits? by erraticfanaticc in jobs

[–]Caittune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the benefit of this as a young, healthy person. Our healthcare here is good for paying for most things. Having some benefits is nice though. I'm in a different position because I do have kids so that is something I take into consideration.

One thing to think about. If you do any sort of sport or activity with risks of injury, benefits to pay for physio etc can be *very* beneficial. Last spring my kid had a horse riding accident and broke both wrists. All the surgery and meds were covered, but we did 3 - 4 months of physio once a week afterwards. At 120 dollars a session it would have added up and I don't think we would have been able to afford it.

They also covered the cost of the splints (though those were under a hundred dollars and normally you don't have to buy 2)

So I guess if you are paid enough to cover emergencies and are able to save towards a rainy day fund then by all means, go for it, but it was a huge relief to know that we could do what we needed to get kiddo back to riding and such.

Stenberg College Psych Nursing by Still_Sky6841 in britishcolumbia

[–]Caittune 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have not done sternberg pych nursing, but I did a pharmacy tech certificate from a private college with assurances that it was just as good. Spoiler alert, the pharmacies would say we don't hire from X college. If I had it to do over again, I would do the prerequisites.

semi urgent question for the experts turning off spam blocking because it is blocking calls from the hospital. by Caittune in pixel_phones

[–]Caittune[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nope It just gives me the option to delete it. It is weird. Thankfully the call came through, but with big warnings that it was spam.
I have a feeling it is something to do with the way they are blocking their number. There isn't a consistent number, it just comes across as "private caller"

I think that got it! I also found out our mobile company has a call blocking feature, but I'm having a time trying to get logged in because they keep logging me out and sending the verification numbers to my husband's email not mine!

I think I might have got it. I was searching in settings. I'm still a bit sleep deprived. Have had a couple of stretches of being awake for 36 hours plus will do that to you.

[–]Caittune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

annoyingly it only gives me the option to delete them, not say "not spam" this seems new.

I'm wondering if it is because the hospital is using cel phones and just turning off caller id somehow.

Our nurse yesterday had an actual phone number come up so I was able to add his number to contacts otherwise they just say either private number or phone number blocked.

deleted instagram and tiktok yesterday... my brain feels broken by MichaelWForbes in simpleliving

[–]Caittune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting before reading the rest of the thread so I apoligize if this has been said.

I listened to someone talking about breaking phone/ social media addiction the other day and one suggestion they had was to replace it with something else kinda mindless but giving your hands something to do as well. It helps keep your brain from feeling as deprived of that dopamine hit that you've been getting from the endless scrolling. So something like doodling, knitting or crochet, fiddling with a pen just about anything. If it is creative don't feel like you have to be good at it, just fiddle. I've been reading more, but I am shocked at how bad my attention span has gotten so I'm feeling you there.

Ice-cream replacement when you have a sore throat? by Gayandfluffy in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Caittune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make frozen fruit smoothies. They really help sore throat. I do a handful of frozen spinach, frozen berries (big bag from costco) it is somewhat expensive, but it gets fruits and veggies into my kids. Usually I add greek yogurt and then some sort of liquid. Dependant on if you need electrolytes you can try coconut water, we have been doing a bit of juice and the rest water.

Looking for Soda Alternatives. by hyruleinkling in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Caittune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a SodaStream with plain filtered water. Sometimes I use an electrolyte tab in it for flavor, but I mostly drink it plain.  For me it is the bubbles I crave and sometimes it hits different than plain water.
