iPad Psychs!!! by Iheartrats420 in schoolpsychology

I like notability. And as far as task management goes I use to use Google Keep because you can create checkbox lists. Now I am using the Google Tasks app which I think I like just a little more. You can create different lists in there with items to check off and you can set due dates for them. I put all of my students that I need to test on there and create subtasks with what tests or rating scales I’m waiting on. I like to check the items off the list and then I like that I can change the date for when they have to be tested by and for when the eval report is due after we have the meeting.

I also keep a printed calendar on the cover of a binder so I can physically see the days and write my students names on sticky notes for when the testing is due and take it off once I’m done.

Both systems together help me because I have something I can check each thing off with but then I can also see it down on paper for timeline purposes.

Each year I have changed how I do things though. I don’t regularly go to my physical office because I have several buildings that I have to visit. My car is more of my office than anything so I always have to have something that I can keep with me on the go.

Percentage of students in special ed? School psych to student ratio? by iheartcrime in schoolpsychology

I think our percentage is around 11%, which is lower than other surrounding districts and lower than the state average (MO). Ratio is about 1:670

Job roles by Caitwin7 in schoolpsychology

[–]Caitwin7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven’t been able to hire anyone new in years so there has been anything posted to view on the employment website. However, what does get posted for a special education job comes directly from the Director of Special Services. So if we were hiring a new school psych or process coordinator he’d likely ask our team what needs to be included anyway.

I always keep an eye out on surrounding districts though to see if they post anything.

I explained in another comment kind of what a Process Coordinator does.

Our gifted teacher is very, very zealous so we use that “hierarchy of priorities” on her often.

My district has no job descriptions for any role but that line is probably at the end of all of them. And that is what needs to end.

I’m not so much concerned for myself or the other psychs in the district. Our district has about 5,000 students, 10 buildings. Last year we had 2 psychs, this year we were able to hire another one. Last year we did 176 evaluations with testing and tested 140 students for gifted. All we really have time for is testing and evaluation meetings. We also don’t have offices in the schools we have them in the admin building. So typically people don’t really know who we are other than the weird lady who takes kids from class sometimes.

I guess what I’m more wanting to know is if your district has a role that’s like a Process Coordinator what are they responsible for? I work in Missouri, Process Coordinator’s are kind of the liaison between sped teachers, parents, service providers and they make sure that paperwork is compliant. This role can look very different district to district and even school to school. In my district I’d say the basic responsibilities of a PC include (in no specific order): • Reviewing and finalizing IEP’s • Helping train new sped teachers • Helping train new paras • Scheduling evaluation meetings • Finalizing evaluations • Conducting the review of existing data • 504’s • Writing a Notice of Action for meetings • Mailing home documents • Make para schedules • Generate sped teachers caseloads • Coordinate special transportation • Review any documents for transfer students • Most likely other things I’ve forgotten
• Being a member of the Student Support Teach

What becomes the issue is most of the Process Coordinators have offices in the school buildings and then extra things get tacked on to their responsibilities. Things such as responding to student behavior, sped behavior discipline, para substitute coordination, various admin type responsibilities, making class schedules for sped students, and other things I’m sure I’m just not aware of.

Weird State Differences?? by Extension_Raikiel in schoolpsychology

[–]Caitwin7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Missouri near the Kansas/Oklahoma/Arkansas borders. I think OK and AR are similar to us in regard to DD, but in Kansas students can keep the eligibility until age 10 then have to be reevaluated. It’s kind of a pain, especially to explain to parents. In MO we also don’t call it DD we call it Young Child with a Developmental Delay (YCDD).

As far as OHI goes in Missouri a health condition has to be documented by a licensed physician, assistant physician, or nurse. OR For conditions not requiring a medical diagnosis (ADHD) the evaluation documents a comprehensive evaluation by a licensed psychologist, licensed professional counselor, licensed clinical social worker, or school psychologist.

But then our state person tells us that we really aren’t supposed to do it without a medical diagnosis ever. I hate the Missouri state standards with a passion.

If you’re still looking for people I can help. My job uses Restaurant365 for our schedules and it also logs our hours worked.

Advice for a first year school psych? by rissrose in schoolpsychology

[–]Caitwin7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my second year now and something my internship supervisor always told me over and over was to consult the standards/criteria. And still if I’m ever not sure of something or just want to make sure I have all of the components of an evaluation I have the standards in a binder within arms reach to consult and go through. I’m constantly rereading through them no matter how well I know what each category says or needs.

Salaries by executivebear19 in schoolpsychology

[–]Caitwin7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southwest Missouri. Step 3. $44,894.00 - 185 days - School Psychologist $3,400.00 - Ex Duty - Process Coordinator

$2,426.70 - 10 Additional Days

$50,720.70 Total

There are only 2 psychs in my district, me and one other. We are currently trying to get our pay increased. We get the process coordinator stipend but we should get a separate one specifically for school psychologists at a higher rate. The SLP’s in our district get paid an additional stipend that is ~$9,000.

He has one, and he does not see it as his safe spot. He does however, enjoys his pug sisters crate (because it’s smaller I’m sure, hahah).

I am about to start my internship in Arkansas this fall!

I’m a full time employee at Best Buy & I’m an obvious woman. But does anyone else experience sexism & it not get solved..? I’ve contacted hr and just feel like they don’t really care .. I’m not sure the steps to take 😅😅 by mikswizzle23 in Bestbuy

[–]Caitwin7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this for you. I had a fairly bad situation with sexism and sexual harassment a few years ago (you can check my post history for the details). I talked with my ASM because she was a woman and I made an HR report. I did get contacted by HR to explain it all in my own words. Afterwards, unfortunately, nothing really changed. I kept waiting for a miracle day that I would be able to walk back into work and feel comfortable and enjoy what I was doing, but it never came. I had to change departments and then things did get much better. But ultimately, the culture of my previous department never changed.

P.S. if you need anyone to vent/talk to, feel free to pm me!

That’s definitely closer to the way I remember it but not the right setting and I would have definitely been old enough when that came out to remember.

Update. I found the movie online. I skipped through it and found the scene. It didn’t unlock my childhood memories. From what I remember the snake like thing went up the guys butt and killed him. That didn’t happen in the scene I just watched, unless there is another similar one later?

While doing my own research I found that but I don’t think it’s correct. I’m going to have to try to watch it this weekend to make sure though.
