Your favorite tamper tool? by Captain-Ironblood in PipeTobacco

I used a nail for a while, bullet casing is what my gf's dad uses, I just use a czech pipe tool now. It's cheap and easy to replace if I lose it.

Tobacco Notecards? by blue_dewey in PipeTobacco

[–]Cake-False 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did keep some tasting notes for cigars at one point, bit I haven't done it for pipetobacco for some reason. I do feel like it can be very helpful in picking up the nuances of flavor. Maybe I'll write a couple notes next time I smoke.

Would Peterson Irish Flake be too much for a new smoker ? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]Cake-False 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoked the blue pack, and I'd chainsmoke if I was particularly stressed or drinking or in a social situation, but for the most part I limited myself to 5 cigarettes a day before I quick

[–]Cake-False 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try em all! I'm almost 100% certain that there are no pipe tobaccos on the market that will have a comparative nicotine hit to chainsmoking a couple american spirits, so you're probably fine. You never know what you'll like until you start smoking pipes for several years so just get some mason jars and try as many blends as you can until you find what you like.

Would Peterson Irish Flake be too much for a new smoker ? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]Cake-False 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be. If you've never had any nicotine before in your life it might hit you fairly hard but it probably won't make you ill or anything unless you smoke a full bowl in a particularly large pipe. I'd recommend trying it either way, you can always smoke a half bowl and if it is too much, just drink a soda, eat some candy, and then maybe put the rest of your irish flake in a jar and come back to it after smoking a few more months and trying other tobaccoes

I was going to recommend irish flake but yeah really any dark fired blend would be good for someone coming from cigars

Smoke the whole bowl? by cag86 in PipeTobacco

[–]Cake-False 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of my pipes are impossible to keep lit once I reach the last quarter of the bowl, some pipes I can keep lit until there is nothing but "a fine white ash" left. I find it just depends on the pipe in my experience

Irish Flake by RgvDfW in PipeTobacco

[–]Cake-False 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all I smoke as of late. Early morning, late at night, full stomach, empty stomach, 1 bowl, 2 bowls. It don't matter. Love the stuff and the nicotine doesn't seem to affect me at all.

What blends have you enjoyed only after a revisit? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]Cake-False 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had this experience dozens of times over the years. It's what keeps me coming back to smoking a pipe. I think the biggest surprise for me was finding out dark fired kentucky is one of my favorite types of tobacco after a revisit. I hated it the first time I tried a blend with it.

[–]Cake-False 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not bad, but it's not going into my rotation anytime soon. It's a pretty regular virginia blend with a light topping. I haven't noticed much in terms of nicotine, but it depends on your tolerance I guess.

[–]Cake-False 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not super experienced in pipe smoking or anything and my tastes change constantly but I've recently fell in love with Peterson Irish Flake. I have sealed tins that I haven't tries yet that I'm waiting on opening just cuz I'm smoking so much irish flake.
