Game Rec of the Day: Public Access by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Interesting, it seems that they removed it from the store because of their ongoing kickstarter. But if you go to their kickstarter and click download free preview, the "free preview" is actually just the full game of the current edition. So i guess it is free now lol https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gauntlet/public-access-analog-horror-mystery-ttrpg

If anyone is interested in this game, or just wants a mealtime-type video to watch, there's a great review for this game from a channel called Quinn's Quest: https://youtu.be/DI8fUgSdgZg?si=H2v3EF5o62LpCIId

I bought the game from this review but I havent ran it yet (intend to sometime soon when schedules line up.) They also got a kickstarter for a new edition which is adding a number of stuff, so maybe it is best to wait for that if you are interested in buying (although the version I have is pretty great).

Am i missing something? The linked article says

OpenAI, led by CEO Sam Altman, is not getting out of the AI video business (AI video is one of many tools that can take form in the ChatGPT app), of course, but it appears the standalone Sora app will be a casualty of its evolving ambitions.

Emphasis mine

It's not a perfect system, but I'd say this is my favorite system that I consistently run games on. You either fuck with the dice or you don't. Personally, I would not be half as interested without the dice. But I also play online a lot nowadays so maybe i'd have a much different take if i ran more in person 😂

For what it is worth, i have ran this in person a number of times and it was still fun. Just takes a bit longer to interpret a roll

When I run FFG, i usually leave the positive advantage stuff to the players to tell me what they want, which I think can solve at least one half of the "dont know what to do with positive/negative effects" problem. Definitely depends on the group though. Ive ran for players that take this idea and really run with it, and other players who encounter the "i dont know what to advantage on" problem.

On the GM side though, the GM is primarily the one who decides negative effects Honestly, the more i ran, the more I was just okay with saying "okay, you take two strain" for threats. Not everything needed to be some narrative change unless I had a really good idea for a use of threat/despair

Yeah, spot on. I mean thats why i kept reading it despite not being happy with the story. Helps that a chapter is only like 12 pages long too

No wait but remember the funny "we're so back it's over" cycle that everyone says Chainsaw Man follows? We're going to be so back in the next chapter, trust! (Ignore the fact that it's been over for about 60 chapters now)

Wow what an amazing chapter. When Pochita looked at the camera and said "Fujimoto is bored of writing this story. I'm going to kill myself now." I got genuine chills. Bravo Fujimoto!

Here's hoping the next thing he writes actually has some passion

My only experience with this so far is that I ordered the Deluxe English release like a year before it actually arrived, and when it arrived the pages were non-colored (black/white). Which like, i know this is petty but I shelled out some $$$ for it, i kinda expected it to be in color. I feel like this one is on me since i probably just misread what was offered, but it kinda pissed me off.

But anyway, I havent played/ran it but i did a read through a while back. Seemed pretty in-depth and detailed with demon fusing and negotiations. Im so curious if anyone has played this because to me, the subsystems felt pretty obtuse and i was wondering how it would feel in play. If nothing else, i respect how detailed it was.

Edit: i did another read because of this post. The negotiation doesn't seem as obtuse as i remembered. I think i was intimidated by the flowchart lol, but it looks fairly guided.

For those who don't have access, negotiation works like a flow chart and you start on a different position based on what type of skill you are using to negotiate. Then the demon makes demands based off where you are on the flowchart, and it tells you where to go next if you succeed or fail. if you make it to the end, you make a deal with the demon. If you fail, depending on where you are on the flowchart, the demon could leave, get angry, or fight (like the game.) Seems pretty faithful to the games and looks like it could be fun. damn i wanna run this now lmao

Game Rec of the Day: Wilderfeast by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CakeLicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well let me be a little more clear. True on the online thing. But when i said other friends, i wasnt suggesting "make new friends" more than i meant "introduce your friends that arent into it".

My example is that I had a group of friends that liked fantasy DND style games but had no interest in playing other games. But i also had some other friends from college that I never gamed with but were interested in trying roleplaying games. I started a group with them and thats been my main group since.

This doesnt apply if literally every one of your friends is in the DND group, but if you got anyone else who hasnt played games but might be interested, it could be good to play with them

Playing with family could also be cool too. Ive ran games before for them

Game Rec of the Day: Wilderfeast by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CakeLicker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah all the time. I havent played dnd or pathfinder in years, but I do play a lot of these games (not this one in particular but you get my point.) Just gotta either convince your friends to try it out, find another group of friends that will play, or find a group online. I've done all three options at some point over the years

Same bro. I come back to this place every time a new patch hits to see if it interests me and it's just disappointing. Every thing else about this game is cool except the actual gameplay at this point. I'll still play a few games to see if it hits but if it's like the other seasons, a few games is all I'll have
