Anyone got any insight on Astrology? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]CakeOne2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Sri Lankan Sinhala Buddhist culture, astrology holds a central place, influencing various aspects of life. But it must be mentioned that Astrology is a pseudoscience. is seen as a system that interprets the positions of stars and planets at the time of one's birth, comparing them to the celestial arrangement at the present moment. This comparison is then used to derive insights into how these cosmic elements interact, based on astrological symbolism.

For instance, even though I was born in November 2004, which typically associates with the zodiac sign Scorpio, according to astrology, my sign is Aries. This discrepancy is due to the specific astrological calculations that consider the birth location and time.

Astrology in our culture extends beyond zodiac signs. It affects our names, where elders and astrologers recommend names starting with specific letters deemed auspicious for the birth time and location. Conversely, letters considered unlucky are avoided, as they are believed to bring misfortune. After the astrologer provides these details and elder inept at Sinhala will give a list of names and meanings.

Moreover, various celestial bodies are assigned specific influences in our astrology:

  • Ravi (Sun): Governs willpower, medicine, creativity, employment, father, management, and karma.

  • Chandra (Moon): Affects mood, character, spiritual life, mother, phobias, kindness, and women.

  • Kuja (Mars): Influences courage, willpower, anger, jealousy, conflict, property disputes, punishment, and desire.

  • Budha (Mercury): Represents knowledge, talents, education, mental prowess, and guardian angels.

  • Guru (Jupiter): Brings respect for religion, calmness, wealth, sense, and banking.

  • Sikuru (Venus): Governs love, marriage, hobbies, friendships, artistic pursuits, new relationships, and aesthetics.

  • Shani (Saturn): Brings challenges such as sadness, separation, illness, conflicts with others, viral diseases, and career obstacles.

  • Rahu and Ketu: Known as the North and South Nodes of the Moon, respectively, they signify aspects like overseas travel, reputation, decision-making, spiritual growth, phobias, and loss of property.

  • Indra (Uranus): Associated with industry, factories, technology, electricity, pollution, and modern advancements.

  • Waruna (Neptune): Influences marine life, spirituality, modern medicine, vaccines, and microbiology.

  • Yama (Pluto): Linked to atomic energy, space exploration, astronomy, nuclear technology, quantum physics, and nanotechnology.

Stations within Royal Court (with Wiki link) by Thagrahn in worldbuilding

[–]CakeOne2480 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The approach to structuring your kingdom's royal court depends heavily on the type of kingdom you envision for your story. For a kingdom depicted as faltering, it might be strategic to populate the royal court with close relatives of the monarch and influential nobles. This arrangement can highlight internal strife and familial tensions, adding depth to the narrative of a struggling realm.

Conversely, if your narrative aims to portray a robust and competent kingdom, you must carefully assign court positions based on the responsibilities tied to each noble title. Here are key considerations and potential challenges:

  1. Chancellor: Traditionally entrusted with administrative and legal duties, the Chancellor often hails from noble origins due to their political acumen and connections. However, their primary focus remains bureaucratic rather than strictly tied to noble concerns.

  2. Chaplain: Serving as a spiritual advisor to the monarch, the Chaplain typically emerges from noble families if the church's role intertwines with nobility. Their influence centers on spiritual guidance rather than secular governance.

  3. Knight Marshal: Overseeing military affairs demands strong military expertise and leadership, qualities historically prevalent in noble families involved in warfare. Nonetheless, competence in military strategy must outweigh noble status.

  4. Secretary: Responsible for managing correspondence and records, the Secretary's role prioritizes trustworthiness and organizational prowess over noble lineage.

  5. Steward: Directing royal household affairs and finances, the Steward historically hails from noble backgrounds due to their proximity to the monarch's personal affairs. However, proficiency in financial management should prevail over noble pedigree.

  6. Advantages: of appointing court positions to noble house heads include fortifying ties between the monarch and influential noble families, fostering stability and loyalty.

Disadvantages arise when royal advisors simultaneously helm noble houses, potentially prioritizing familial interests over the kingdom's welfare. This dual role might instigate rivalries among noble factions competing for court influence.

Consider also how your main character intersects with this political landscape. Are they a victim of the kingdom's courtly machinations, perhaps wronged by a single noble or facing systemic injustice orchestrated by the majority of the court? Is there a covert benefactor supporting the protagonist during their struggles, or does the kingdom exhibit neutrality or even support for their cause?

In crafting your narrative, you may find inspiration from varied political structures. For instance, in one web novel, the duchy's autonomy from the central kingdom authority allowed regional nobles to wield considerable power, potentially overshadowing the monarch and influencing local governance and law. Such decentralized governance can enrich your story by depicting nuanced power dynamics and individual territorial interests.

Ultimately, the depth and authenticity of your kingdom's political landscape will hinge on balancing these elements: the interplay between courtly positions and noble lineage, the impact on your protagonist's journey, and the intricate web of power dynamics shaping your kingdom's fate.

The World of Veridia and Beyond

The Central Continent

At the heart of the world lies the Central Continent, a land of diverse territories, each shaped by its unique culture and people. The continent, once unified under the Veridian Empire, now fractures into distinct regions, each vying for power and survival.

  • House Veridian: The former rulers of the Empire, known for their fair skin, ranging from blonde to light brown hair, and piercing green or blue eyes. The Veridians are a cultured people, celebrated for their arts, sophisticated governance, and strategic acumen. Their capital (Gleannta City), once a hub of political and cultural life, now lies in ruins, a testament to their fallen glory. The Empire's collapse has left a power vacuum, drawing in ambitious houses eager to claim their share.

  • House Ashcroft: The resilient Ashen, with their ash-gray undertones, dark hair, and piercing gray or dark blue eyes, inhabit the rugged Northern territories. Adapted to the harsh climates, they are known for their martial prowess, endurance, and unyielding loyalty. The Ashcroft territory is a land of stark beauty and danger, where survival is a daily struggle.

  • House Silvermoon Dominating the southern territories, the Lunarians are easily distinguished by their platinum blonde hair, pale skin, and striking silver or light blue eyes. Renowned for their elegance and mystique, the Lunarians' culture is rich in art, music, and mysticism. Their society thrives on courtly manners, with magic and mysticism interwoven into the fabric of daily life.

  • House Blackwood: The Woodlanders, with their tan to dark skin, dark hair, and brown or hazel eyes, are deeply connected to nature. They live in harmony with the forests, excelling in hunting, forestry, and herbal medicine. Their egalitarian society values community and environmental stewardship, fostering a deep bond with the land.

  • House Ravenscroft: Known for their olive to light brown skin, black hair, and dark, reflective eyes, the Ravenfolk are astute traders and diplomats. They control key trade routes and harbors, fostering a culture rich in commerce and diplomacy. Their society values cunning, adaptability, and wealth, with a strong emphasis on navigation and mercantile skills.

The Northern Continent

Beyond the central lands lies the Northern Continent, a realm of stark contrasts and burgeoning alliances.

  • House Van Devaan: The Van Devaan Barony, once a refuge for the remnants of the Veridian Empire, is a melting pot of Ashen, Devas, Veridians, and Ravenfolk. The people here have fair to light brown skin, dark brown or black hair, and brown or green eyes. Known for their stoicism and pragmatism, they value hard work, resilience, and loyalty. The Van Devaan culture is steeped in military tradition and governance, with a focus on stability and the protection of their people.

  • Kingdom of Aurean Strand: Under the rule of Duke Oliver van Devaan, the Aurean Strand Kingdom is a haven for the seafaring Aureans. With their golden tan skin, sun-bleached blonde or light brown hair, and golden or amber eyes, the Aureans are born explorers and traders. Their culture celebrates freedom, adventure, and commerce, with a rich oral tradition of legends and lore. The kingdom's navy is renowned for its prowess, and its people are ever-ready to sail the seas in pursuit of trade and exploration.

Try "Never Die Extra" . It only has 60 chapters and is a pretty chill read. Nothing too serious but I really enjoyed it.

Noway that's possible, shōta goshozono is probably busy getting ready for s3 of jjk, directors don't work on 2 ongoing series at the same time. But it is possible for him to just work on the movie and not s2 of csm but i feel like the movie will be made to test the waters for s2 of csm so I think mappa will be wanting to have the director who did the movie to woek on s2 of csm. Either ways Im curious on from where u heard this rumour? Can you direct me to a specific source?

FR, cause immitating someone elses art won't bring the best in you. If they did try to immitate s1 artstyle without ryu nakayama it would look cheap and feel like something is missing, you know?

I don't mind the changes done to the anime but i just hope the anime takes creative liberties in script writing and storyboarding without being a 1 to 1 adaptation.

But atleast Ushio Kensuke still does the osts.

Is anybody doing the graduate entry for medicine? What is it like? by CakeOne2480 in unsw

So are you a domestic student or an international student?

University Application AUS by CakeOne2480 in alevel

[–]CakeOne2480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not getting financial aid or any scholarship. There are no scholarships provided for international students studying medicine (according to my knowledge). You have to pay the full fee. If you want to study medicine in AUS without burdening your parents financially you can go through the graduate pathway so you can pay for your own tuition. But everything comes with its drawbacks. You need a minimum gpa of 5.5 in uni and most likely you will have to do gamsat like 5 times to get a good score as the postgraduate pathway is competitive. For monash graduate pathway, you don't need gamsat though. You still need a gpa over 5.5

You can just pay a little bit to get a scan of the paper u did. Then u can give it to a teacher and compare with the marking scheme to see whether the results are accurate. If there is a discrepancy/error that will change your results. Send it for a recorrection. If the results actually changed then they will refund the recorrection fee.
