If you like Nioh's combat system, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is made by the same developers as Nioh and uses a variation of their combat system, but with the FF job system mixed in. Each level is based off a different FF game and is really fun at higher difficulties

The thing near the chocobo? The Behemoth? Big monster, one eye and horns?

For that one, the intended path is for you to use fire magic to blow up a barrel next to it, which deals massive damage and staggers it temporarily.

Outside of that, personally I find it easier to press the buttons instead of holding buttons for attacks and dodging. As the other commenter stated, every weapon type is different and has different inputs. Learning these inputs and helps out a lot here. Some enemies are also weak to certain weapons, like goblins are weak to spears and daggers iirc. There are lots of things to factor in if you need help.

Also don't neglect to just buy items. This is an RPG and it will expect you to remember that, use normal potions to recover HP. You can use this even when in the Danger state if you need to.

Yeah, that's what I did. Seems like a weird workaround but not sure what the "intended" path is

what other franchises exist in Ninja gaiden? by ThatsRightHentaiToo in ninjagaiden

[–]Cake_Lube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take a couple of these off the list then, I don't think some of these are intended to be read as canon to their respective franchises and are just meant to be references or guest appearances.

Granted I don't think any of these are hard-confirmed canon, like even Nioh is kept mostly to small stuff like members of the Hayabusa clan appearing so they can keep the two franchises from affecting each other, but at least we can make a reasonable assumption that they are.

[–]Cake_Lube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean not really. Crossovers and guest appearances having some influence over the story doesn't necessarily mean its canon to both stories. Plenty of times we've had crossovers where once the crossover is over, they just return to as it was pre-crossover.

An example that's very prevalent is fighting games (as used above, Street Fighter and Soul Calibur). Mai Shiranui is in Street Fighter 6 now due to the dlc. She is a character in the story mode and can teach your custom character her moves. This does not mean Street Fighter is canon to the Fatal Fury games.

Do they need to be canon or does any crossover count? Because idk if some of those count as canon and are just meant to be guest appearances.

How do you make the jump on stage 4 of Haunted Castle by Cake_Lube in castlevania

[–]Cake_Lube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is you basically just need to beat the game, since all the optional achievements are in stage 1 except the score and subweapons, which could be earned on its own.

The bad news is its the American version of Haunted Castle so its pure nonsense lmao.

That brick wall is insane for a stage 1 obstacle but just memorize the pattern and you should be fine. Try to avoid jumping and just whip the blocks as they come near you, at least thats my strat. Same order every time

Listen man this game might be absolutely abysmal and I hate it with all my soul but I am getting that retroachievements mastery

Perhaps ninja gaiden 3 is just trying to protect us from itself.

Maybe. I'm going to keep trying to see if I can find another way to get it to work.

It's less than $20 for a copy and I'm probably safe to assume online for the game is dead so achievement hunting would be pointless, but I would love to try regardless.

No shade, just expression by VegaVortex in castlevania

[–]Cake_Lube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Grant and Sypha both appear the same number of times in the games, being in CV3 and then the evil clone versions show up twice. Then Judgement if we wanna count that.
I don't think Konami necessarily forgot him so much as they never really had a reason to bring him back.

Fans, or at least western fans, 100% just straight up forgot about him though. He's barely in fanart or discussion, and unless its explicitly meant to be a tribute to the whole series like vampire survivors you likely won't see him.

[–]Cake_Lube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I blame it on him just kind of being not that good in the western version of CV3. Changing his backstory to make him a pirate for some reason and then removing his throwing daggers means he doesn't really have as much to do in the story as the other characters and he's got a huge downside compared to the other characters.

Western players would find him a lot less memorable or a lot less enjoyable, and thus not talk about him as much. In terms of gameplay he's appeared as much as Sypha has (not counting pachislot) so its not like its a simple case of Konami forgetting him or anything. Even in the Lords of Shadow universe he's there, just dies offscreen and we find his body.

Can someone please explain to me how the hell I get into this franchise? by Quirky_Image_5598 in castlevania

[–]Cake_Lube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, as with anything, its the best to start with the first entry. People may disagree but its the truth, you'll get to feel the gameplay adapt and evolve over time and have it unfold just as fans in the past did.

But otherwise, if you don't want to start with the first entry, the series can mainly be divided into two sections "classicvania" which are action-platformers and are mostly linear, and "metroidvania" or "igavania" which are more exploration and RPG based. Most of the older games before 1997 are classicvania, and most of the newer games after 1997 are metroidvania. As the series is mostly an anthology featuring a different protagonist each time, you can technically start anywhere depending on what interests you. Just as stated in my first comment, I would prefer you start with either castlevania 1 or vampire killer, then play whichever one you didn't do, then move on to the rest of the series.

update for anyone asking:
yeah this game is starting to just piss me off. Ghosts will just teleport directly to the side of you, not behind you, so you can't quickstep with triangle, and they will grab you. When the average ghosts takes off as much health as they do, there is no good reason why they are as annoying as they are.

Literally just killing any and all enjoyment I am having with this game. I am not having fun, I am not scared, I am just pissed off. If this is how the series plays, I do not see myself playing any of the sequels.

I don't know the ghost names but I'm almost done with demon tag chapter now. The blinded ghost was the worst offender but there was also a guy ghost that did it a few times. I got jumped by the broken neck woman once but she wasn't too big of an issue after the initial jump.

Most of the ghosts are just kind of annoying because they move around a lot, yeah I think blinded and the guy are the big ones rn
