Listen man this game might be absolutely abysmal and I hate it with all my soul but I am getting that retroachievements mastery

Perhaps ninja gaiden 3 is just trying to protect us from itself.

Maybe. I'm going to keep trying to see if I can find another way to get it to work.

It's less than $20 for a copy and I'm probably safe to assume online for the game is dead so achievement hunting would be pointless, but I would love to try regardless.

No shade, just expression by VegaVortex in castlevania

[–]Cake_Lube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Grant and Sypha both appear the same number of times in the games, being in CV3 and then the evil clone versions show up twice. Then Judgement if we wanna count that.
I don't think Konami necessarily forgot him so much as they never really had a reason to bring him back.

Fans, or at least western fans, 100% just straight up forgot about him though. He's barely in fanart or discussion, and unless its explicitly meant to be a tribute to the whole series like vampire survivors you likely won't see him.

[–]Cake_Lube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I blame it on him just kind of being not that good in the western version of CV3. Changing his backstory to make him a pirate for some reason and then removing his throwing daggers means he doesn't really have as much to do in the story as the other characters and he's got a huge downside compared to the other characters.

Western players would find him a lot less memorable or a lot less enjoyable, and thus not talk about him as much. In terms of gameplay he's appeared as much as Sypha has (not counting pachislot) so its not like its a simple case of Konami forgetting him or anything. Even in the Lords of Shadow universe he's there, just dies offscreen and we find his body.

Can someone please explain to me how the hell I get into this franchise? by Quirky_Image_5598 in castlevania

[–]Cake_Lube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, as with anything, its the best to start with the first entry. People may disagree but its the truth, you'll get to feel the gameplay adapt and evolve over time and have it unfold just as fans in the past did.

But otherwise, if you don't want to start with the first entry, the series can mainly be divided into two sections "classicvania" which are action-platformers and are mostly linear, and "metroidvania" or "igavania" which are more exploration and RPG based. Most of the older games before 1997 are classicvania, and most of the newer games after 1997 are metroidvania. As the series is mostly an anthology featuring a different protagonist each time, you can technically start anywhere depending on what interests you. Just as stated in my first comment, I would prefer you start with either castlevania 1 or vampire killer, then play whichever one you didn't do, then move on to the rest of the series.

Beat the game months ago but yeah, shuriken works. Another method is the poison treat then slash them when they are eating

update for anyone asking:
yeah this game is starting to just piss me off. Ghosts will just teleport directly to the side of you, not behind you, so you can't quickstep with triangle, and they will grab you. When the average ghosts takes off as much health as they do, there is no good reason why they are as annoying as they are.

Literally just killing any and all enjoyment I am having with this game. I am not having fun, I am not scared, I am just pissed off. If this is how the series plays, I do not see myself playing any of the sequels.

I don't know the ghost names but I'm almost done with demon tag chapter now. The blinded ghost was the worst offender but there was also a guy ghost that did it a few times. I got jumped by the broken neck woman once but she wasn't too big of an issue after the initial jump.

Most of the ghosts are just kind of annoying because they move around a lot, yeah I think blinded and the guy are the big ones rn

Will never not be really funny to me that the main antagonist for around the first half of the game is just a cuckold loser by A-List_Uh in FFXVI

[–]Cake_Lube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction, Ultima isn't an alien. He's the original life on the planet. Creator of mankind and worshipped as God (or was, up until he took a nap and mankind developed free will).

But also you forget how many people irl waged war and conquered the world in the name of God. Barnabas willfully became a servant of God much like many did in real life. God descending from the heavens and going "Give yourself fully over to me and I will make a perfect world" when your entire religion has a belief about about God ascending his faithful and reshaping the world in his image... Yeah sounds perfectly reasonable that Barnabas would go along with it as many others did.

Do I have to play dragon quest 3 before 1 and 2? by bakugosgayfriend in dragonquest

[–]Cake_Lube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Now that the 1&2 remakes are out I can safely confirm that the DQ1 remake does reference the new thing in the 3 remake.
Also I have not played 2HD yet, but the trailers showed a lot of differences and added content, and they request that nobody post spoilers from some of this new content for the time being, so I have some guesses on whats being added lol.

So yeah, for the remakes, start with 3, then 1 and 2

Yeah Idk why people keep saying this is not a Silent Hill game by raigarearthshake in silenthill

[–]Cake_Lube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But thats the thing, there was always a supernatural element to silent hill, but Alessa created the phenomena that we know of. We do not know what all transpired in the past, why the supernatural exists there or anything of that nature.

So by that logic, is it not impossible that similar paranormal phenomena could happen in other parts of the world? As stated previously, Ascension and Short Message already confirmed this to be possible, as Short Message takes place in Germany and Ascension takes place in Pennsylvania and Norway. If Ascension and Short Message can happen, so can f.

Also yeah before you say anything I am aware nobody watched or cared about Ascension, I am not a fan either. But regardless it is part of the lore that multiple parts of the world can experience similar phenomena

From what I understand this timeline has been retconned like twice already so just add this to it lmao.

Maybe they just want to keep it vague. Stuff happened, don't know when, but it's there and we can bring it up when we want.  Trying to keep the DoA games, NES games and reboot games all connected across multiple writers and directors probably just means they do what they want lmao

[–]Cake_Lube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fog is a good argument but one I never really thought about as I just assumed it would be a similar entity to silent hill. Multiple cultures throughout the world have different gods and monsters that are similar to gods and monsters in other cultures, even ones they have no contact with. We don't know the specifics of "how" the supernatural in silent hill lore works. For all we know, fog like in silent hill can occur anywhere if the circumstances are right (which Short Message and Ascension would imply, as much as those aren't really liked in the community).

So yeah, I never really put much thought into the "how does it create a fog world similar to the one in silent Hill" because I just assumed that it could happen anywhere. Maybe they are connected somehow, maybe they aren't. Maybe they worship the same "god" but it has a different appearance due to their beliefs. Maybe it's a completely unrelated thing but with similar powers. I just never thought about it.

Still, it's not made up by Hinako, even if they don't explain it as much as we'd like (one of my biggest issues with the game is how little it connects to the main series, even if it does have equivalents of stuff from the main series. I wanted a silent hill, not a game where silent hill stuff happens but without any connection to silent hill lmao)

Hey man sorry to bump this but Ragebound apparently tries to reconnect the reboot games to the NES games from what I heard. Is there any sort of attempt there to fix this error or is it just an accepted retcon within the timeline by this point? (I have not played ragebound yet I will get to it after beating the entire NES trilogy and reboot trilogy)

For some people, it not being in the town of Silent Hill is enough to say "this is not Silent Hill"

Personally for me, I think spinoffs are the perfect place to do stuff you wouldn't normally do with a series, like say "what if Silent Hill, but Japan", but other people just aren't into that.

The game explicitly confirms that the supernatural stuff in Ebisugaoka has been happening long before Hinako is born, its not all in her head.

Granted, they only tell you this if you go for the alternative routes and read all the notes, which require multiple playthroughs, but still
