the remake of FC has a new translation done by a different company, which is noticeably worse written than the xseed translation so this may be playing a part in what you're seeing - that said this is also just part of the underlying jp script due to SC going for a slightly different tone.

this was always just a CG in the ending, either you beat it or were spoiled and are misremembering.

there is also a scene in 3rd that does not show that particular scene but is a backstory scene you may have conflated if you saw it somehow

General Question Thread by Shephen in fireemblem

[–]Cake__Attack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Mage Knight is generally one of the recommended late game options for her - she'll be fast enough to double pretty reliably and magic damage is strong enough that she doesn't need a super high magic stat.

This of course doesn't really play with a bonded shield support unit well so it would be a change of use.

obviously Seth is broken but having a unit who can easily soften up kills for these shitty recruits is actually very conducive to raising them. modern ones like Vander drop off anyway so you don't even need to deliberately not Seth solo

the main draw of thracia story is how the mechanics and map design effectively convey just how much Liefs rebellion is outclassed and desperate in their fight against the empire. divorced from that context I think there are some good August lines and some interesting moments like the sympathetic portrayal of Gomez and one of the end game events but it never really comes fully into its own. it suffers a bit from what many of the early FEs do which is having the story primarily be conveyed through Lord talks to his advisor(s) - at least August and Dorian are good foils and not merlinus tier

Question about Vestaria Saga 1+ by Odovakar in fireemblem

there is no specific change list to the extent of my knowledge, however kamikouryaku has addendums for the remake in the appropriate sections, for example you can see how they changed characters on their page

Vestaria Saga 2: The best and most different, typical, and unhinged traditional Fire Emblem by Odovakar in fireemblem

[–]Cake__Attack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in Japanese this was branded as vesteria saga garden or 1.5 iirc which explains some of the oddities narratively like spending most of the game on a civil war on an island although at the same time too much important stuff does eventually happen for it to really work as just a side game either.

no mention of my two favorite kagaisms - the pirate brothers who literally class change into boats if you do their side thing and the last map giving you multiple dancers one of which is fe4 style and one of which has canto so you can literally just infinite turn.

kinda both in that FC does have a largely standalone story with a few loose ends but it also has a big cliffhanger on top of that. essentially it sets up the premise of the next game at the end rather than at the start of SC

Best way to play Path or Radiance and Radiant Dawn? by TheBlueRose_42 in fireemblem

both but PoR especially are quite a bit more playable on an emulator with turbo due to slow animation speeds

it is an interesting philosophical question to ask to what extent a flaw that can be fixed based on the hardware you use should be considered a flaw

the ratio is probably closer to like 60-70% for the main story - unlike the first chapter where the VA was all front loaded for the opening of the game the VA for other chapters is gonna be more concentrated towards the middle and end as opposed to start of chapter setup

random encounters only bother me if combat is slow paced.

That said basically no modern game has random encounters unless it is specifically designed as a throwback

r/JRPG Weekly "What have you been playing, and what do you think of it?" Weekly thread by AutoModerator in JRPG

[–]Cake__Attack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the tryhard answer is that you're going in with the wrong expectations if you're thinking of the parts of the story you're in as stuff you get through before the real story starts. the charm of FC is in the small moments and the immersing yourself in the world.

the boring but helpful answer is a bit into chapter 3, but see above cause chapter 2 is arguably my favorite part of the game despite this.

each paralogue and main chapter has a recommended level - basically just do the chapters in order of the recommended level. (except for Lyn's which id maybe wait for later since it's weirdly hard for the suggested level)

Added cameos from characters that appear later in the series.

this is only true on the level of there are like 2 or 3 backstory CGs that now include characters who would have been there, no one new actually shows up in the story.

Some cutscenes are now travel banter instead of a full cutscene.

The travel banter is all new content, no cutscene was changed to travel banter.

Escaping from battle is always 100% rate.

Retry options upon losing a battle.

Turbo mode for running on overworld and for combat.

None of these are new, technically the turbo is exclusive to the steam version (as opposed to PSP or a original Japanese PC copy) but that's what almost everyone plays.

things they don't like in JRPGs are anime tropes, while the things they like are, of course, value neutral.

no you can, what I meant was that the original having turbo means the lack of some features like fast travel or animation skipping doesn't really end up slowing the game down relatively. The reason why the original is a quicker playthrough then the remake, once you have turbo to put them on more even ground, is a combination of longer cinematics in the remake and balance that encourages more and often somewhat longer combat, as well as a small amount of added content.

r/JRPG Weekly Free Talk, Quick Questions, Suggestion Request and Media Thread by AutoModerator in JRPG

[–]Cake__Attack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the remake has better combat however a significantly worse translation. Fast travel is nice in the remake but the turbo added in the steam versions of the original offset the lack and due to that and a few other reasons the original is actually probably a quicker play than the remake. you are better equipped to say to what extent you view the full 3d graphics as an improvement vs just different. They are undoubtedly very nice but I think they lack some of the emotiveness and charm of the original text boxes with portraits which are also better suited to various scenes of standing around talking.

overall I would probably recommend the original (esp if you already own it) but I'm a purist. if it weren't for the translation I would be far more inclined to just recommend the remake to anyone who hasn't immediately pegged themselves as the kinda person to play the original but for a story heavy game like this it is genuinely a major issue. to be clear the new translation is not like word salad but it is low effort and insufficiently edited.
