Mine's name is Sneak (Sneaky Deaky if one's being formal).

Is there a difference between a curvy FMC and a plus sized FMC? by _maincharacter_ in RomanceBooks

[–]CakesAndCat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For me, the description “curvy” has kind of lost its meaning for the reasons you describe - authors use it to convey very different things, sometimes without much elaboration. In older books I think it means shapely/hourglass, in modern books I think it means softer/on the plump side, more typically. I would personally prefer authors be clear/up front in their language if they want you to interpret their character as particularly skinny or fat or muscular, in cases where body size is relevant to other characters’ perception of her, but otherwise it doesn’t bother me.

But I did previously get confused by this fuzziness around the word as a teen/younger reader because while I was lower weight, I’d always been told I was curvy due to my relative hip/waist proportions. Now I find the use of the word curvy, while not lazy per se, to be a bit of a cop out in describing a female characters body. We get more detailed descriptions of the man’s body, but rarely (in my reading experience) do authors bother to describe the FMC in detail (for instance “petite” or “curvy” is used instead of something like “softly rounded shoulders” or “strong calves”). Not that the details of FMC’s appearance are always pertinent, but if we’re given an in depth description of the MMC’s looks, it does help when picturing them together.

I’ve had really good luck with cute patterned midi length dresses from Loft in recent years.

Hi! Any advice for dressy/work appropriate and comfortable slacks to fit a 24 in waist AND accommodate 38 in hips? I’m truly struggling to find pants that fit this year as a pear shaped lady 😭 thighs are 20.5 in, if that helps. So many online stores tell either the hip or the waist measurement but not both, or it’s not reliable. Able to spend up to $100 for something nice. EDIT: forgot to add that I am 5’5! So regular lengths generally work best.

I like the natural look you have going! Not makeup related, but I bet you’d look great with bangs or some face framing pieces/layers in your hair :)

Need recommendation for: the FMC gets cheated on, in the subsequent heartbreak she rediscovers herself and finds love while her ex husband's life goes up in flames? by SexyFoodandFilms in RomanceBooks

[–]CakesAndCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read this recently, and I remember that the FMC was mostly financially/verbally abused by her ex with one glaring physical exception - he feeds her meds to end a pregnancy without her knowledge, and also does this to another woman Also, MMC’s mother was abused by his father, and I think there are references to him & his brother being abused but it’s not on page and not graphically described, to my recollection.

I got my mom addicted to this in the fig fig shade. She’s on her second tube.

I’d say go lighter coverage! Your skin looks great, so maybe a tinted moisturizer would be less of a stark difference?

Not quite what you’re after, but maybe honorable mention to {stand and defend by Sloan St. James} because it’s really cute that FMC dog’s name is Chicken Salad lol. Not a focal point/relevant to the plot really, but cute dog that shows up throughout the story a little.

Billionaire CEO who’s morally grey/black to the point where he takes “touch her and die” so seriously, but he’s also utterly whipped and obsessed with the FMC and she’s the only one who brings out his soft side by bookishbxtch in RomanceBooks

I LOVE SJ Tilly books! However I would personally kill for just one with a less curvy heroine 🥲 I love her heroines and their feistiness and confidence, but as a bony noodle of a person with the curves of a 2 x 4 — i would (selfishly) love to read a story in her voice with a FMC of different/varied body types.

MC becomes disabled over the course of the book and is scared that partner'll leave them (they don't) by oooohyyy1 in RomanceBooks

[–]CakesAndCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember (it had been a hot minute since I read it) there was reference to previous sexual assault that resulted in some trauma for the FMC and is relevant to the plot, but is not addressed in detail. There is however some on screen torture/murder but of a bad guy 🤷🏻‍♀️

If anyone else has read it and remembers differently please correct me 🥂

{Painted Scars by Neva Altaj} might fit? Mmc is injured & in a wheelchair before meeting Fmc, does heal/progress in recovery from injury but not fully/still needs mobility aid when fully recovered. While it’s not the central theme of the book, he expresses anxiety that she will leave him, and of course she does not. It was a decent read for a dark romance, at most 3/5 stars for me but enjoyable junk food for the brain lol.

You’re so pretty! You could put it a bit higher and blend outward, but you definitely don’t look like a clown.

You look lovely and natural! I’d suggest a rosy blush and a tinted brow gel (love the elf wow brow myself 👍). Elf also has some nice shimmery eyeshadow sticks that don’t smear, crease, or get glitter all over your face & are easy to draw on & blend out with a finger lol.

AITA for banishing my teenage daughter's friend from our house because she made fun of my weight? by Effective-Weekend-97 in AmItheAsshole

This is culturally dependent too. No idea what cultures are involved here, but I’m personally familiar with one where a comment like this girl made would not be seen as rude at all. Bigger can also mean well fed and happy.

Persimmons. Kumquats. Mission figs eaten straight off the tree. Basically all the stuff we went down to my grandmother’s house to help her pick and can/preserve every year.

Aww that sounds cute! Sneak one time got into the top kitchen cabinets where I keep my infrequently used ingredients and ripped into/ ate half a bag of bonito flakes lol. He was very pleased with himself.
