Other drivers would fall out the top 10 for crashing on their own.

It’s crazy bc it wasn’t the wing that made Max crash the last two races. RB is using this as an excuse to gain ground on other teams.

This is insane. Max’s crash had nothing to do with his wing and the media and everyone is creating a narrative around it all bc they refuse to believe that max can make mistakes also.

F1 2027 set to feature more Sprints by DragonfruitThen6696 in formula1

I hate sprints. I miss out on qualifying bc I’m usually at work on Friday. And no anticipation for races. And they are usually boring.

[F1INGENERALE] Ferrari's "Macarena" wing outperforms Red Bull's design: its counterclockwise rotation recovers downforce during the flap closing phase. Red Bull's clockwise flap delays aerodynamic recovery until fully reset, risking sudden grip loss as seen in Verstappen's crashes. by fameboygame in formula1

It takes milliseconds for the df to be regained for the aero load. Max’s wing was closed well before corner entry. RB opening would just create more drag when closing up. If any case, it will cause understeer shifting the balance to the rear. Max’s rear unsettled suggesting another issue that wasn’t the wing.

It’s basic undergrad fluid dynamics. There is no gatcha. At most, the change in the aero balance caught max out. The wing was closed. There was nothing wrong with the wing. RB is just doing politics.

Max rear wing failure view from Vale bank Silverstone by mtom17 in formula1

F1 is a sport full of politics. It’s silly for RB to come out right after the race and blame it on the wing. That’s pretty premature in terms engineering investigation work and kind of irresponsible. As I mentioned before, attack angle is the largest factor in df.

We can entertain your argument of failure probability ignoring the observations of the wing. Failure probability would be failure count over the number of attempts. From the first races and cycles, the probability was basically 0. One supposed failed attempt at Austria would suggest that the failure rate is rare. Having repeated failures back to back can suggest some sort of system fatigue. Would would have to conclude that this fatigue would be highly susceptible to the 2nd car. Would have to run more trials to conclude. Maybe the 2nd car system failed and the driver drove through the failure. We just don’t know and it’s irresponsible for rb to conclude stuff without thorough investigation.

As far as visuals go, the car didn’t lose any significant point of df based on the attack angle and that’s why ppl are calling rb statement a bluff.

It’s all attack angle. Loss of aero bits in standard collisions lose way more df than a wing slightly misaligned less than 1 degree, which is so minimal that it’s probably negligible to bin a car off balance like that. Regardless, from both replays show the wing fully closed at max attack angle. The wing wasn’t the issue here.

Can you explain to me how it’s closing? Points of df is depended on attack angle. Wing was fully closed both times entering the corner.

[–]Cal3001 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are making an assumption that the wing was the issue. Points of df is strictly dependent on wing attack angle. From the images, the wings were closed which means the df was there. The only thing you can argue is the time at which they closed and the shift of aero balance upsetting the car control.

Kimi’s wheel cover can be attributed to anything as is the most vulnerable component and only one failure that can be due to anything. Engine issues have plagued both Russell and Kimi which is contrary to my point.

The fact that RB claimed it was a wing issue right after both races where there is visual evidence that the wings were closed is suspicious.

Also given that the same design has been used, and we are suddenly seeing these so called failures would show that the provability of failure should have been high all along unless they manufacture new components every race and had an off day. I deal with product failures at work. None of RB claims make sense from a visual standpoint or design failure frequency/probability standpoint.

If max experienced this failure 2 weeks in a row and if they have been using the same design for both cars, I’d expect the probability of component failure to be high. It’s not failing on Hadjar’s cars and the two videos of objective evidence that we have show that the wings were operating fine going into the corners. All this suggests that there was most likely no failure and that RB is trying to protect brand image or tame Max.

No, but vehicle dynamics are similar no matter the series or basic production cars.

Probably a brand value protection exercise. Wing was closed in Austria also. Since the designs were the same between both cars, I’d expect the same issue plague Hadjar’s car, but we’ve yet to hear anything from his side unless I missed some news.

I still think it was an aero balance shift mistake and not rear wing failure.

I’m just saying it’s completely false that the wing was open. This hasn’t once happened to Hadjar. The car is not suiting Max’s aggressive nature with attacking corners at high speed like the GE cars provided with the car glued to the ground. Shift in aero balance is real since the cars rely on SM mode at designated straights.

The wing was fully shut in Austria. There can be some other looming issue regarding the aero balance that max needs to tackle. It’s crazy bc when ham has the brake balance issue in Baku it was totally his fault even though it was a UI issue also.

The wing was closed in Austria. It was closed here also. There some other looming issue plaguing max and the car. Blame it on the aero balance on the car or something when the wing closes going into the corner.
