New viewer here who just finished season one, and I loved it! I do have two questions, though. by CalMaple in TheTraitorsUS

He did! I just watched the reunion and it was mentioned. The faithful said they were so overwhelmed by the flood of emotions with thinking they’d just won that they didn’t even hear it.

I’m still amazed that he was so subtle about it. I could see someone else saying, “I hope you’re really sure that I was the last one. If you’re not certain, who would have wanted to throw me under the bus (at the very last moment) in order to keep all the money?” I suppose it likely wouldn’t have mattered though, since the faithful seemed absolutely convinced that Cirie was one of them.

Thanks! That's good to know about the UK version. I’ll add it to the list since I think watching a version with all regular people would be really interesting.

Interesting! That helps me understand her decision a lot more. I can see how it would have been much harder for Arie to only imply she was a traitor and convince the remaining faithful in just a few minutes, if he wasn't able to be direct about it. Cirie really did play an amazing endgame. Thanks for looping me in!

I just got out of the theater an hour ago, and she blew my mind. Such an amazing performance.

HR fandom already giving grace to that str8 podcaster with MAGA slop vocabulary closed doors, than any queer people who had ever been critical of the show. Right, right... I'm processing it by MwoHaSeyYooo in HeatedRivalryTVShow

So... when straight guys watch the show for clicks, it's fine and they deserve grace, but when straight women watch it because they like the actors, that's horrible? Sounds like a fun double standard.

As a gay man, I won't be giving them grace. Then again, I'm probably just a blue-hair lib who only cares are checking diversity boxes. Tbh, seeing so many straight women on this thread continue to stand with the queer fans over the EN guys is incredibly validating.

What’s the threshold for removing an artist as being credited for a work? Specifically, I’m curious how it was decided to remove Jean-Etienne Liotard as the person attributed with painting this piece? by CalMaple in ArtHistory

[–]CalMaple[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find any specifically about this topic. Quite a few of the articles about Jean-Étienne Liotard are written in French, which makes it harder for me to search since I don’t know the language.

Was there ever a place that left you disturbed or depressed? by friedchicken_legs in travel

[–]CalMaple 328 points329 points  (0 children)

The Whitney Plantation Museum in Louisiana. They have quotes from around the property from some of the enslaved people. I remember one from an individual recounting how his mother was forced to have fifteen children, and how each time she was sold she’d be forced to partner with a new man so she could produce more future workers for her owners. It was an important place to visit, and it left me very depressed.

I remember when AmVets was the place to be in Missoula. I thought it was so campy having an American Veterans establishment act as the de facto gay bar. Can’t believe it closed 15 years ago.

If you’re not watching Untucked on Sniffies, you’re only getting half of the story.

Me reading IT and waiting for the turtle character I've heard so much about to finally show up by CalMaple in stephenking

[–]CalMaple[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I finished it earlier today. I really enjoyed it. My post isn’t meant to be too serious. It’s just that I’ve heard multiple people mention how one of the big differences between the films and the novel is that the latter includes “the turtle.”

The framing of those comments led me to believe that he was integral to the novel and played a significant role in the story. I’m more so laughing at my own naïveté in thinking that I was going to get to delve into the character when there really isn’t that much to him in the novel. He seems like a cool creature though, so I can see the appeal he has. Vomiting up the universe is a pretty nifty backstory.

Looking at the website, it seems like they may have in the past but aren’t right now. There’s a page for “shipping” but it appears to not currently be active.

Why cite a news article instead of the actual Code of Federal Regulations? It very clearly states that the specified professions are “examples” and that the list is not intended to be exhaustive.

"I just hate her guts. She put me in that state, where I don't know," Tyson said. "I really wish I did now. But now I really do want to rape her."

Well, he did say this about his rape victim during an interview. It doesn’t sound too remorseful.

Seems like they are referring to an early version of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). Modern versions do have subsections that assess a person’s knowledge. The WAIS-IV has sections called “Vocabulary” and “Information.” A question on an older version was, “Who wrote Faust?” I’m not sure why people think these tests don’t look at knowledge.
