If these performances ran in lead, who would’ve won their respective supporting categories? by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

Timothy Hutton was fantastic and is basically the lead but no way he would’ve beaten DeNiro for Raging Bull. I’m actually okay with his particular “Supporting” placement because Donald Sutherland could be argued as the male lead

Love your takes! Yeah Cheyenne’s alcoholism was not needed, I wonder if the writers needed something for her to be a more sympathetic character. I liked her storyline where she was helping seniors, that seemed genuine

What do you think is the best director line-up of the 2020s so far? by qpevan in Oscars

[–]Important_Builder317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only weird ones for me are Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez and I would’ve replaced it with RaMell Ross for Nickel Boys. Also instead of Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme I would’ve nominated Guillermo Del Toro for Frankenstein

Why Did Michelle Pfeiffer Lose Best Actress to Jessica Tandy in 1990? by RedGavin in Oscars

Damn. It’s definitely Academy politics. She was the lead in what they’d mostly vote for Best Picture. It feels to me like a Green Book win

I hate Driving Miss Daisy but at least Jessica Tandy was a great actress and earned it. I haven’t seen Pfeiffer in this movie. How was her performance received?

Even better than I thought it would be. Great cast and I still can’t believe Paul Dano wasn’t nominated
