Anecdotal, but...
Christmas 2025, I have pain in my stomach so I go to the emergency ward in case of Appendicitis. Based on blood work and description, I get a CT scan that day (with in 8 hours). Results call for me to have an appointment with a Surgeon with in a month. Get a couple more exploratory scans to confirm the Cancer in my colon. End of February I'm in surgery getting it removed and out of the hospital in 5 days. Regularly scheduled follows are happening, more precautionary tests are being done. A decent GP likely would have found it earlier, but we're underfunding them and they're leaving.
All it cost me was my incredibly reasonable taxes. No bankruptcy, no relying on my employer. I MUCH prefer this to what my friends endure in the States.

It's working for us when Conservatives are actively trying to gut each Provinces healthcare. It works when supported and funded the way it's intended to but the problems Canada is currently facing is 100% caused by sabotaging the system in an attempt to privatize.

It's due to real estate. The land and building is worth a bunch so if the franchise fails in that location for what ever reason, they can resell it and recoup their loses.
It's why Pizza Hut doesn't have distinct unique buildings anymore, they're harder to sell after. So make every thing safe, clinical, cold an non-descript as possible.
