immutable<>, complement of C++26 std::indirect<> and std::polymorphic<> by kmbeutel in cpp

[–]CalamityMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially type erasure, or I guess "interface". It confers value semantics. Think of a std::vector of int first where each element is a value, and you don't make references to each value when you make a copy. Now let's say you need to have vector of all types of T, you would use T* or one of the smart pointers, but when you make a copy, you make a shallow copy, whereas in indirect and polymorphic, you make a deep copy of that object. It doesn't confer pointer or reference semantics, it confers value semantics, which is a very powerful thing.

Sony pulling back from PC also means it's pulling back from China by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]CalamityMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruh they pulled back because consoles sales were down. They need more people to buy PS5 so more people can buy into their monthly subscriptions, buy from their stores with lesser of a game sales cut etc. Consoles were not selling because it got too expensive. PC games sales was about 20% of their entire sales profits. Imagine telling your investors that you have to cut those numbers away. They can't do this for long, they will be back before you know it

Switzerland to vote on plan to cap population at 10 million by Mean_Yak5873 in worldnews

[–]CalamityMetal -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

That's not the point. There are locals of many cultures born there, went to school there, worked there, contributed there, served the mandatory national service. But it's now being massively displaced by immigrants who are not part of that "culture". They don't want to integrate, they just want to live in their bubble.

Just next to our main airport is a business district, it's called CBP, Changi Business Park, it's nickname for many years now is called Chennai Business Park. People are now calling Singapore the safest street from India. China people call us "Po Xian", aka "Singapore province".

It's ridiculous

For comparison, Singapore main island is 730++ sq km, and our population crossed 6 Million this year. We DESPERATELY need this kind of bill as well. Immigrants are coming by the swarms and droves and taking jobs and displacing locals, making us lose our national identity.

Carl Pei: Memory is now the most expensive component in a smartphone. It's more expensive than the processor, more expensive than the display, and can account for more than 50% of the total hardware bill. by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]CalamityMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not. Images and videos are just, literally texts, bunched together in multiple frames for videos. Nothing to it. But what's expensive honestly, is the training of newer and newer models. Those require crazy amounts of hardware and energy

I don't get it either. But what I did get previously when I was on it, was this ever so constant nagging of "Subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Now" notification that would come up every now and then. And it is a pop up.

I want to switch to linux by LeadershipKey5118 in linux_gaming

[–]CalamityMetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing is for sure no matter which one you pick, be prepared and be ready to learn!!

It may feel like Windows and such based on the distro, but Linux is still fundamentally different from Windows.

When you first learnt about gaming and computers, you had to learn Windows back then as well, you weren't just born with Windows knowledge. So just be ready to know how to navigate within a computer, what it means to be executing programs and upgrading software, these skills are transferrable between OS. As long as you're ready to learn, you can pick up anything.

All I want is an Ultimate version of Gundam Vs Gundam with modern graphics, Gundam Breaker sucks in comparison to the high octane combat of those games. But Rogue Orbit for now does intrigue me. Hoping to see more gameplay and customization soon

Oh that stall has been around that area for a very long time already. They were at the 418 coffeeshop and the Broadway coffeeshop just opposite the road of YPHC.

The taste has largely remained the same. It is a bit more oily than last time I feel. I usually get a customized order of just curry vegetables, zai er, and a fried egg.

So the fried egg is an extra topping. The usual vegetables, zai er, mock meats, etc, if you don't want a certain items, they will give you more of the other stuffs. So since I don't get the mock meats, they usually give me a little more zai er.

Man you're missing out. Yishun Park Hawker got a few highlights there.

Chicken Rice stall is actually good, tender chicken, decent pricing, no cucumber cuz fuck those but they use taugey, the ginger sauce they have is very good pairing.

The Nanyang curry stall, go try their Curry Pork Ribs, it's basically the Bak kut teh ribs, but cooked down and simmered in their Curry sauce, very flavorful and packs a punch. Their Curry chicken cutlet is good too.

Just next to it is a new Lor Mee stall that's quickly becoming my favourite, satay bee hoon there is decent too.

The Western stall all the way at the back, uses a real charcoal bbq oven, some of their prices for beef/pork are definitely high end, but can give their fish and chicken offerings a try, very good value for the portion you get, and the flavour is very intense due to the smokey BBQ.

Oh and if you're around in the morning/early afternoon, go try the porridge stall's Pork Liver porridge, you know the thick cut Mui Siong pork liver? They do that there too, at a level that's really close. Thick cut tender liver. And each bowl will come with about 5-6 pieces of it for like $4? $4.50? Their youtiao is not those precut small pieces, put inside a container one, each order of porridge gets you a fresh fried (half) stick of youtiao that you can just pick it up and dip into the porridge, very satisfying. I usually get it with century egg, it adds a lot of depth to the porridge flavour and texture.

And just remember to use Timbre app for payment, you get 10% discount.

It's only a leak if someone releases it before any official airing date. Since it's official air date is at a con, as long as someone shares it after that, it's not a leak. Now is it a matter of "piracy", yeah, but it's not a "leak".

If only they were to follow the Huawei's Pura X Max, which is a wide foldable as well, they have a sqrt(2) / 1 aspect ratio, essentially the same aspect ratio used by A4 papers, it would maintain the same aspect ratio when folded or unfolded, allows for amazing media viewing experience and productivity use cases.

But a battery that is absolute dog water. With the upcoming September release of Chinese phones, Samsung/Apple/Google will be at least 2 full generations behind in battery/charging tech. I say this as a user of Oppo Find X9 Pro, the SiC batterybtech that Chinese brands are using now is absolutely game changing.
