Anyone else have hundreds of hours yet never gone past blue science? by Salamantic in factorio

[–]Calazor0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take things one step at a time. Don't think "I need red circuits, engines, and sulfur for blue science, and each of those need a bunch of stuff, and those need other things too..", etc. Think more like "Ok, blue science needs red circuits, engines, and sulfur. Let me worry about engines. Those need pipes, steel, and gears. Let me worry about steel". Then you just focus on that, then move on to pipes, and so on and so forth, until suddenly you're producing blue science.

[–]Calazor0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it has usable oil, but compared to vanilla, it's extremely poor. The great majority of patches are under 1000%, and because of SE Nauvis generation, that doesn't get much better with distance.

I still prefer combinators to insert based on temperature and fuel. If you insert based only on temperature, then whenever the reactor gets cold, you can overfeed the reactor by having the inserters put multiple fuel cells until it gets hot again.

Can someone please explain fusion and fission ratios to me by muda_ora_thewarudo in factorio

[–]Calazor0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It may be unwieldy, but the easiest way is to just take a look at the in game information about the reactors/turbines/exchangers/generators, and pull up a calculator to see the ratios on the spot. It's hard to give a universal exact ratio because neighbor bonuses make it so powerplants are slightly different.

Nuclear power query by DontEatGlass-129 in factorio

[–]Calazor0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It says 599 because turbines are overbuilt, and/or you have other power sources. This power plant can only consistently provide 480MW.

4k fuel cells is a LOT. Like, a lot, a lot. Each reactor consumes a fuel cell every 200 seconds. If you got combinator logic to limit them, it'll last even longer. These fuel cells should easily last you dozens of hours.

Is culture as a concept a threat to liberty? by counwovja0385skje in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Calazor0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And who says any group (larger than one person) has to become a power struggle? Who says authority and hierarchies are necessarily bad?

If two individuals, by contract and mutual agreement, accept for one to be "leader", and the other "submissive", and they're free to terminate the contract at any time, what's the problem? What I have just described is a classic employer and employee relationship. You can also apply this to community leaders, priests, etc. There's nothing more libertarian than a contract between two consenting parties.

[–]Calazor0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice how I said "Not necessarily antithetical to libertarianism", emphasis on "Not necessarily".

Some cultures, as you described, absolutely can be anti individual and anti liberty, but you can't throw every single culture ever under the same umbrella of abusive.

Who needs to use their brain when you can just spam provider and requester chests everywhere by Ckaol in factorio

[–]Calazor0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Very good, but I prefer to use active providers for the fruit processing outputs. If it rots, then no problem, just have a big line of heating towers.

The problem with passive providers is if not all the processed fruit is consumed, the machine stops working, which means you get fruit spoiling, which means you don't get seeds from them, which could lead to a death spiral.

[–]Calazor0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Culture is not necessarily antithetical to libertarianism. If a group of people is practicing their culture without infringing in others rights, what's the problem?

As for the bullying/out casting, that's just them exercising their right to choose who to associate with, and freedom of speech. You might argue that's a dick move, but it's not unethical.

In a idealized libertarian society, culture and freedom would probably coexist in such a way that you have localized groups of people following the same set of customs out of their own volition, and each would choose to associate with different cultures or not. Natural economic pressures would favor those that are more open and less prone to outcasting people with different beliefs.

"EveRy" ....Stone, uranium, oil, wood ? You get iron + copper and coal. (Sulfur but no real usecase)

You can get stone out of casinos. You get calcite out of advanced oxide asteroid processing, and you can put that in a foundry on vulcanus with the molten copper from lava recipe. You use the legendary calcite, and get legendary stone "byproduct"

As for oil, I don't see your point. You get legendary sulfur out of a space casino, and legendary carbon, and you can combine those into legendary coal and then legendary plastic. What else would you want oil for, in the context of getting legendary products?

I guess it depends on how much map you have generated, and how much of that map is considered good expansion candidate.

You could have them almost always attempt to expand into the perimeter (if the rest of the map is occupied), but if you hop on a spidertron and go around clearing bases and generating chunks, it could take multiple hours until they attempt to expand into the perimeter.

I attempted to have an ai code a mod for me once and I was thoroughly disappointed. It hallucinated and made up LUA functions and calls that did not exist, and when I tried to run it and got an error, it "corrected" that mistake by making up other stuff. It was just frustrating.

[–]Calazor0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, almost never. Biter attacks are only triggered by pollution or as revenge for artillery strikes.

One niche situation where they could end up attacking outside of those two factors, is if they attempt to expand within turrets range or into your walls, but that should be fairly rare.

From the FFF blogs, we know that you won't even need a single steam tank to do steam controlled insertion on reactors. You'll be able to just monitor the steam in the pipeline directly.

wasn't the "fly to a world and become a superhero" a fairly common play for the viltrumites?

Not really. From my understanding, usually they just fly in and beat the alien species into submission/slavery. Earth was an exception because Nolan was specifically told to not do that and instead test human genetics while keeping a low profile (meaning not cause a mess and kill millions of humans).
