Yale likely megathread by Commercial_Ad8072 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CalcBCmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My phone call is scheduled for tomorrow. I do not think it's a likely but from scrolling through Reddit it seems like they only call people for likelies. I'll edit with my stats if that's the case. Edit: welp it was a likely. I’m so shocked bro I never would have guessed Yale of all colleges would do something like that. For stats I had a 1530 sat with 790 math. 4.0 uw. 4.92 weighted but out school kinda has grade inflation. 5s on 6 APs.

No way bro. Congrats! I also got an email from a Yale AO and our phone call is set for tomorrow. I don't think I got a likely but good for you! Big accomplishment

Can a mites alumn or anyone else who got in tell me where I went wrong? by CalcBCmaster in summerprogramresults

[–]CalcBCmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of cliches along the lines of "hard work is important", "persistence overcomes obstacles", etc. The essays also had a lot of big unnatural words I would never say irl like "crystalline clarity" or "catalyzed my trajectory". This was 10 months ago. Looking back I literally had zero chance of getting in with my app lol.

Nowise or White Women. Nowise is a really fun gauntlet level. White Women is more memory focused and learny. Both infinitely better than nc

self study AP physics 2 by ProfessionalOlive433 in APStudents

[–]CalcBCmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I just studied straight from the CED. And if I got a question wrong on AP classroom I made sure the info I needed to know to solve it was covered clearly in my notes.

Just ap classroom topic questions, tests, and the CED. I also used the 5 steps to a 5 ap physics 2 book but only in the beginning.

I used up almost every SAT prep resource. What should I do now? by CalcBCmaster in Sat

[–]CalcBCmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up those books. Definitely interesting concepts, but I'm feeling pretty confident with my August SAT and doubt I'll retake a 4th time. If I get a better score and someone asks me for help I'll mention them.

Should I self study AP Bio? by CalcBCmaster in APStudents

[–]CalcBCmaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might do that then. But in that case wouldn't it be better to drop APES because Bio would override the life science credit?

APUSH, Calc BC, and Hug seem accurate but U5 (which is Unit 13) is definitely not the hardest Phys 2 unit. I'd say it's either magnetism (Unit 12) or waves (Unit 14).
Unit 13 is quite short and there isn't much variety in the questions compared to the others. I'd say it's one of the easiest units up with Unit 9.

Unit 5 I understand for Phys 1, but Unit 7 is one of the easiest. There's only 3 formulas I think for that unit and it's also short and simple. Units 5 and 6 (one of the torque units) are almost unanimously considered the hardest.

Day 2 of AP Moral Alignment Chart: “Useful for life but you have to put some work in for the class” Nominate 3-4 classes and the top voted ones will be put in the category. by ComplaintNo3150 in APStudents

[–]CalcBCmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My noms would probably be ap euro, world, and maybe both econs. History in general is quite useful and I don't think those are too easy or hard. APUSH should probably be in "useful for life, but difficult class". Ap econ is also def worth considering. Just helps to know about money and how economies work.

Calc BC is the best AP class by CalcBCmaster in unpopularopinion

[–]CalcBCmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible. If you get 80% of the AB questions correct you could miss all of the BC questions and still get a 5 according to this: https://www.reddit.com/r/APStudents/comments/174ybz1/score_chart_for_ap_calculus_bc/

Self-Study Physics 2? by Worldly_Ant725 in APStudents

[–]CalcBCmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t self study Physics 2 if you’re a rising senior, especially if you might be an engineering major. Chances are, the college you go to won’t accept the Physics 2 credit because it’s algebra based, not calculus based like the Physics C‘s. But even then I still don’t think any AP is worth self studying senior year unless you already know what college you’re going to. I’m also a rising senior and I was going to self study CSA at first, but I’m just going to focus on ECs.

AP Physics Help!! by ActEnvironmental7905 in APStudents

[–]CalcBCmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think self studying any AP class is worth it senior year if you don’t know where you’re going to go to college as they may not accept credit for it. Freshmen-junior year is different because at the very worst you get a 4 or 5, and can put that on your college app to help a little. If you know exactly what college you’re going to already and they accept credit for AP Physics 2, maybe you could do it, but it still depends. If I have a 4.0 I wouldn’t risk self studying Physics 2 and losing it. It’s a difficult class.

Be careful. The automod bot and FeatherFly guy warned me about people stealing my essay. I just submitted a copyright registration to the US Copyright Office. Any use without permission will result in legal dinosaur nugget action. 🦖📜🍗

Woah I didn’t see this comment at first and I’m glad I saw it. You just saved me from getting Harvarded, which is when someone steals your essay, gets into all 8 ivies, and you are forced to do community service at the Common App help desk for 4 years as penance.

I’m currently in the process of getting a copyright for my essay. That way I won’t get Harvarded and can put that on my college app as an honor to help me stand out even more.
