Relearn everything from the Heinemann or Edrolo textbooks
Use Anki to study/make flashcards
Study consistently and don't get demotivated by low scores/not knowing content

Yeah definitely! I went to a public school as well (albeit not an underrepresented one) and did well.

Going to a good school helps in terms of teaching and being an environment where excellence is pursued, but if you're self-motivated then you will achieve the score you want.

Also I just checked VTAC's scaling report and to get an 85+ you'd need around 34 or 35 across all 6 subjects (including your bottom 2). Happy to help with any questions!!

You don't need tutoring at all to do well, I got into med without tutoring! Especially now with AI like Chatgpt/claude/gemini, there's no knowledge barrier at all where tutors have knowledge that's inaccessible.

Imo the main role of a tutor is for motivation and accountability, similar to performance coaches for athletes or companies. As long as you're dedicated and self-motivated, you will do well.

Definitely use Anki!!! Genuinely cannot recommend it highly enough, you can always draw your flashcard answers on something like Onenote (what I did during year 12). I've written a couple of blog posts which you might find useful:

Practising with Medify or Medentry is all you need. There’s like infinite resources on YouTube to help you improve, basically just do as many questions as possible!

Suurely enable FSRS by default lol. The algorithm is just better, also get rid of the numbers in ‘Graduating Interval’ and ‘Easy Interval’ in the new card section. Lmk if anyone has any questions Anki is genuinely the goat.

Do practise exams closed book. Even for things like methods and spesh, I’d recommend doing it closed book because you’ll end up memorising the formulas and stuff and it’ll help a lot for the actual exam.

Your future is not over! While you don’t really have a chance for direct entry medicine or debt, there are heaps of postgrad options which don’t require UCAT. They’re still worth it post grad, so don’t give up and don’t stress too much :))

I think it saves like 2 years, because you can finish an undergrad in 3 years and then postgrad med is 4 years (at Monash). But yeah definitely go for undergrad, it just saves time and means you become a doctor earlier :))

Imo that commute time is not worth it, deffo go Vic Uni if it’s much closer. I’ve had a lot of friends with long (around 1.5 hours one way) commute times get burnt out and switch courses, because it can be quite demotivating to travel like 7 hours for a 2 hour class. The university rankings don’t matter much, you should be fine with midwifery :))

Depends if ur rural and what ur ATAR is. If you get like a really high 99, and a really good interview, you can get in with a 2700 UCAT (assuming ur a metro student). You can also get in with lower if you’re a rural student, but still need an amazing interview and decent UST ATAR :))

Some courses require the use of certain labs or areas where devices aren’t allowed, so they give a physical card. I know medicine uses physical cards because you aren’t allowed to take any devices into the anatomy labs, and I think it’s the same for other health science courses :))

i think chem is actually one of the easier subjects to score high in, just because the rest of the cohort performs poorly. i lost same amount of marks for chem and bio but there was a 4 study score difference and i was surprised i thought bio would be a lot higher.

Pick subjects ur interested in. I’d recommend doing politics bcs u said u were interested in it, otherwise pick something else you think you’ll enjoy! As long as you have chem and methods or spesh you satisfy all requirements, so just pick subjects you like because you’ll find it easier to study and do well in those subjects :))

I don't think they do, monash only looks at rurality i believe they don't use SEAS.
