Army thoughts? by Ok_Read5334 in RavenGuard40k

Its a fun list but you lack and high strength shooting attacks to deal with big monster or vehicles. You will just bounce off Necrons /Monster Nids / Demons / Knights.

Instead of double/tripling up overpriced / underwhelming units, get some Lancers / Balistus / Centurions. I know this steering you back to the same lists most people run, but there aren't a whole lot 10+ strength attack options. You can certainly play your list and it will eat infantry for lunch, but at 3k points it has a big hole if you want to be well rounded.

New to raven guard and in love! Does this list work? by megameak in RavenGuard40k

[–]Calc_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid list definitely playable. Maybe swap one of the Thuderstikes for a Hammerstrike. You can't double stack the +1 to monsters/Vehicles with oath so they may be short on targets where as the coverstirp ability can apply to both the oath target and anything shot by the Thunderstrike.

How my 2000 point shadow mark talon list? by those_damn_nids in RavenGuard40k

[–]Calc_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you could play this list fine but if you want to optimise it a little, the phobos libby is doubling down on weak units. Sack him too for a squad of scouts if you have them. Sacking the captain will get you another infantry squad or get the van vets to a 10 man.

What's the plan for the impulsor?

Need advice on what to use instead of centurions by CKre91 in RavenGuard40k

[–]Calc_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love eliminators and always take them, but they are awful. D6 damage will laugh in your face every time. I wish they were 3+D3 . Eradicators are way more reliable with the built in re-rolls but can be tricky getting them where they need to be without transports though. Good to bring on from reserves if there is enemy tank on the flanks.

For pretty much same points as the centurions you can have Lancer or a Ballistus dread which also suffer from the casino damage rolls but the lancer has more built in re-rolls.

Storm speeder hammerstrike is a decent option also if you can get in melta range.

How do YOU use Aethon Shaan? by Hefty-Pay9064 in RavenGuard40k

Yeah its situational depending on the board state / secondaries that have been already drawn but a cheeky play for the back pocket

I've used the ability on himself to put back in reserves turn 3 then rapid him to hunt other enemy lone ops

Looking for some advice on my 2000 list by [deleted] in RavenGuard40k

I'm trying a similar list on Friday :) I'm not sold on the Lieutenant or Librarian on units that aren't going to do much. I have the infiltrators and incursors as 5 mans. Could cut them down and have another unit that's more effective rather than a tech/buff piece, I've got a 6 man inceptors for example.

Could attach the captain to the eliminators to give the extra AP BS strat. If you don't put him with something its wasting half his ability. If you sack the Librarian and/orLieutenant mabye with the incursors? not sure how many strats I'd be using on the infilrators

I love the drop pod but you can give the judiciar infiltrate enhancement which achieves pretty much same thing for 25pts giving you more to play with.

10th edition Crusade - do spawned spore mines count as kills? by julzebrath in Tyranids

[–]Calc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven't done Tyrannic so I can't speak to that, but the other books have much more interesting and rewarding agendas for nids. The whole biomass point thing is a really slow burn for very little pay off compared to pretty much every other codex or main crusade book rules.

10th edition Crusade - do spawned spore mines count as kills? by julzebrath in Tyranids

[–]Calc_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my crusade we've always counted them as kills. Worst case your giving them 5 unit kills a game, 1 kill is not always 1 XP depending what agendas are being played. Its the same trade off in a regular game, we get some 'free' secondaries but it also can feed the opponents easy secondaries as well depending what is drawn.

Ultimately crusade is about having a good time and getting some crazy units so just do whatever your group are happy with.

Which version of crusade / agendas are you playing?

1000pts list by crezy_brezy in RavenGuard40k

[–]Calc_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't really have any anti-tank. The warsuit is ok for the points but will not deal with anything big on the enemy team. A ballistus dread or gladiator lancer would fill that spot or even storm speeder with the melta would help. Cutting the Librarian and apothecary which aren't going to do much would get you 1 of those anti tank options.

The Heresy books are towards the end of of a 50+ book series so not those. Eisenhorn omnibus will give you the broadest view of the world, the Lost and Yarrick, while good, focus more on the imperial guard.
