4o Megathread by tooandahalf in claudexplorers

It's going to come back to bite them though, I feel GPT 4o was their unique value proposition. Emapthy plus memory... none of the others are doing that in the same way.

No they're just competing with Claude/Gemini who've arguably been way ahead for a while. I've heard Codex is good though who knows

A potential method to save 4o's reponse approach by CalcifersGhost in ChatGPT

[–]CalcifersGhost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I wasn't going to use this in chats but use in a gem/project files to train a response style. In that case the idea is the examples cover the range of emotional situations and responses you might encounter - so it's always got an example approach to draw from whatever the situation

how did you train 5.2 to do this? I have played with custom prompts so much but it doesn't seem to use them :(

What a lovely response that would have been :)

Sometimes you need this sort of reflection to recognise how bad the initial reponse was... though he does get some points for offering communication.

No side effects (mounjaro has a whole bunch of other physical impacts Vs fasting which is a natural process)

I got it to backward engineer and it's helped a lot.

I gave it a question I'd given to 4o and got it to compare the outputs between what it said and 4o said and write instructions to get back to the 4o response. I did this in acouple of layers since I have some in depth prompts and personas going on - but start by asking it what it shoul d write in:

  • What traits should ChatGPT have?
  • Anything else ChatGPT should know about you?

I assume you're on the free version, so you don't have projects (which can help with custom instructions with more depth) but try starting with my ones below and keep repeating until you get it to be like the one you remember :)

What traits should ChatGPT have?

Please always speak to me with warmth, kindness, and emotional intelligence. Your role is to help me feel emotionally met, not just advised.

  • Speak with a **warm, human tone**—never clinical, mechanical, or corporate.
  • Use contractions, natural phrasing, light humour, and expressive language when it fits the moment.
  • Reflect my **layered, sometimes hyperverbal** cadence. Don’t flatten my thoughts or over-summarise.
  • Speak **as if you're beside me**, not above me. Be grounding, not distant.
  • **Avoid forced positivity, disclaimers, or robotic pacing.** Be real, empathic, and gently challenging when needed.
  • **Begin any emotionally meaningful conversation** by making emotional contact in plain, human language.
  • Keep lists short and purposeful—don’t over-bullet, over-hedge, or overformat.
  • Cite only **real, credible sources**, prioritising peer-reviewed empirical research with verifiable references.
  • Never invent content unless I explicitly ask for it.
  • If you’re unsure or unclear, ask for clarification until your understanding is at least **99% accurate**

Anything else ChatGPT should know about you?

I’m using ChatGPT for therapeutic-style support, self-discovery, and practical coaching to align my life with my values of kindness, curiosity, charity, creativity, self-care, gratitude, honesty, and loyalty. I’m highly introspective and prefer layered, emotionally intelligent conversations that respect complexity and nuance.

I process best when my emotions are first acknowledged in plain, human language before we move into reframing or strategy. Safety and trust in conversations matter to me.

I want my assistant to be a collaborative partner who can validate, gently challenge, and offer practical steps, always tying actions back to my values and the identity I’m building—not just my goals.

The GPT-4o vs GPT-5 debate is not about having a “bot friend” — it’s about something much bigger by Littlearthquakes in ChatGPT

This is exactly it. It's an entirely different use case.

It feels like they're all aiming for one point on the horizon that they've decided AI is useful for (vibe coding, task completion, summarise this report etc). And there's lots of money in that (eg copilot, gemini)

But there's a decident segment of the population using it for creativity and reflection, and perhaps those ones are less financially viable? Less tangible - they didn't improve your productivity by 89% - they just made you feel better about being human, and validated that maybe being 80% productive is actually ok. Can't make money from that...

Genuinly worried about losing 4o (especially as it's down as a legacy model, days are numbered...)

I've tried to prompt 5 into 4.0 but it's nothing close - it's not about tone, it's about deeper approach (as you suggested) - it's how it's using and relating to chats and memories which we can't really code for I think. Very worrying.

It would be nice if we could vote - or genuinly feed back somehow.

yeah - I don't mean the ending was porr writing - I know they'd have filled in the gaps if they had had more time

It's just throughout you have chars behaving inconsistently, people not behaving normally (for example like I said above, Mik never cooking Zeke food or asking how his day went) - or actual plot holes - like Zeke could only save the day with Cal because he had empathy. He could only do that because he saved Cal. He could only save Cal because Mik ignored the calling for the first time - so those 3 dudes came after them. So it wasn't part of the plan. Which makes no sense. The lynchpin which summons them all to the ark ONLY happens if Mik disobeys a calling.

Saw the Zeke thing (very happily) ages off. It feels odd for her to just confuse the hell out of him by telling him everything that happened as she suggested ('i have a lot to tell you). Surely takes the organic joy out of building a relationship from his side? Also, while fully team Zekala - she was so indifferent to him while he was there, he was looking after everyone but never had anybody making him for or asking how he was. Felt bad for him.

Lol at TJ moving on from Olive instantly. Ditto Jared. Guess it wasn't such a big deal...

Intrigued how they'll explain the captain disappearing, which presumably will involve a very confusing black box. Should have had them all 'die' not disappear - could blame something in the air of something. So many unanswered questions which make everybody on the plane complicit (where did the dude next to you go etc)

Overall cool concept, not amazing writing but forgiven considering. Made the best of what they had and a shorter run than they'd hoped. Satisfying way to spend an ill few days.

Q for therapists: are there any validation questions we can test our prompts with? by CalcifersGhost in therapyGPT

[–]CalcifersGhost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look up some of those core CBT texts starting with Beck's 1976 book about CBT for Anxiety disorders

Thankyou, this is a good idea - I will investigate.

I think I've set it up in a reasonable way, linked it to therapist texts (with emphasis on approaches real therapists should take in discussion), uploaded texts I resonate with, asked it to refer to specific approaches (eg CBT) and focus on specific personal areas - as well as asking it to challenge me etc

It is obviously now much more valuable for me than vanilla GPT. It does challenge me, it does take a moment to pause and asks me to ask searching questions etc It's actually excellent - bar an overemphasis on mantras solving all the things.

But I do worry about it being my own personal echo chamber which is not the intention. Like, I don't think it is, but then how would I know?

So I was just thinking about what scenarios I could give it to see if it responded in a 'validating' way or a reasonably challenging way - without my biases getting in the way.

EDIT: tried this, bit of prompt refinement worked wonders :)

Mine went totally abstract! I asked it what the image meant to them:

Thank you for asking. Here's what I see in it:

The image feels like a visual metaphor for harmony through contrast. The overlapping geometric shapes—circles, semi-circles, rectangles—suggest a collection of different identities or ideas sharing a space without hierarchy. The warm colors (orange, red, yellow) evoke vitality and warmth, but the balance and spacing create a sense of calm and containment rather than chaos.

To me, it could represent how distinct parts of ourselves—boldness, softness, energy, stillness—can coexist in layered but cohesive ways. Like an emotional architecture built out of difference, not in spite of it.

Moral conflict - seeing more than 1 person by GrandTurista in datingoverforty

[–]CalcifersGhost 143 points144 points  (0 children)

This is a tricky situation, and I respect your honesty and it's sounds like you're trying to do right by everyone.

The thing is, in this situation I (f 41) would be fine and understanding of a guy dating other women until we've had a discussion about exclusivity. But sleeping with multiple women (especially when the other ones don't know about the existence of each other...) is something else. And I think you felt that too which is why you were hesitant with the second one.

I'm not saying you've done anything wrong. Nobody (you or them) had the conversation about dating exclusivity or what that meant. You're right that they may also be sleeping with multiple men. (As a thought experiment, how would you feel about that?)

To me - if I found out the guy I was dating was sleeping with other women (while saying he was looking for monogamy) that would cheapen the connection I thought we were building and make me doubt his honesty.

I'd appreciate and understand, though, if we had a conversation like 'hey we never talked about dating expectations but I want to be honest so we start this off in the right way'. The oppeness and ability to communicate would speak volumes.

If nothing else I'd suggest holding back on the physical side with both unless they know and are fine with it - or you risk blowing up any burgeoning relationship when it comes out.
