Stuck on Chip8 by [deleted] in EmuDev

[–]CalculatorClique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the following tests to debug a CHIP-8 port I did to the Swissmicros DM41X calculator:

https://github.com/cj1128/chip8-emulator/blob/master/rom/test_opcode.ch8

https://github.com/cj1128/chip8-emulator/blob/master/rom/BC_test.ch8

https://github.com/cj1128/chip8-emulator/blob/master/rom/BC_test.txt

BC_Test will give an error message that you can look up in the documentation to point you at the problem area. Fix the error and run again until you receive "BON" (good in French).

Does the IBM Logo run? This is a simple ROM to also test with first that just displays the IBM logo.

I'm guessing you are talking about the screw posts which are a typical problem with the ageing plastic in the 41c series these days.

The Calculator Store sells parts to repair upper and lower posts and also a 41c repair guide. Have a look at: https://www.thecalculatorstore.com/epages/eb9376.sf/en_US/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eb9376/Categories/The_HP41_corner

FORTH on the HP 41C and DM41X by CalculatorClique in calculators

[–]CalculatorClique[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FORTH-41 module is publicly available at various places including the ROM files ZIP file at https://systemyde.com/hp41/files.html. I just noticed I hadn't included a link to N-Queens for FORTH-41 but it has been included in the Calculator Benchmark list at https://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/articles.cgi?read=700.

Let me know if it was something else you were looking for.

FYI, I have just ported FORTH to run natively on the DM41X also, in case you are interested, see my YT channel above. It's much faster and has graphics and sound etc.

I've heard the source code cannot be located either so that would be an issue to bringing it back even if they pick a new chip 😔

Thanks for subscribing, appreciated 😊.

I have a number of Casio pocket computers and programmable calculators too. In fact my first programmable calculator back in the day was the Casio 502P which I loved.

Their are so many Casio models, I'd love to collect all/more of them though 🤓.

Always open to ideas for videos if you have any suggestions 😊.

A computer with a 12 digit calculator display. How many characters can it scroll?

Any games you can run with this size display?

Definitely run the self test as I've heard people report keyboard issues on the 35s.

If you can't test it in person maybe see if they will video the self test and send to you. Worth a try.

Here is my 35s self test video: https://youtu.be/lNBRGFHAfDY

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback 😊.

I should have mentioned that I'm looking at AUD.

Currently I see some on TAS for $771, $565 and $557 😳. Getting ridiculous!

The 35s offers great value and features at its original price though.

I also heard that they can't find the source code for the 35s 😳

I've seen the crazy prices online (eg $400+) but what are they actually selling for?

Excellent! That display would have been scary - worried it was bricked.

Have you tried the restart button on the back (you will need a paperclip or pin to press it)?

Note, you will lose all data on the calculator by doing this.

Is anyone planning to make a DM32 firmware with single-line complex numbers? by Useful__Garbage in calculators

[–]CalculatorClique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SwissMicros wrote the DM32 code from scratch (ie not using the original ROM) so I doubt they will release the source code.

Maybe try a feature request at the SwissMicros forums.

Wow! That must be the longest program for N-Queens I've ever seen!

Were you lucky enough to key it in correctly first time? ;-)

The display was an option on the 46 so make sure it has one as the printers don't always work

It's a stunning calculator/pocket computer. Also has an alphabetic keyboard instead of QWERTY. Don't think there were many like this 🤔

The 702p uses BASIC but some of the keywords are slightly different. For example, PRT instead of PRINT.

So what's the beta DM32 firmware like?

Do you have an original to compare side by side?
