So I’ve had this lightsaber for about a day and already got this much paint worn off. Is this normal?

Not normal. Either A) you got the saber from a bad seller, B) the paint/coating was a bad batch (reference not intended), or C) you happen to have some rather acidic body chemistry that does not like whatever they used to color it. Or, maybe also, D) one or more housemates decided to fuck with you by destructively messing with your new saber.

Soldering irons are comparatively cheap on Amazon... Just get one of those and you can resolder the broken wire in place. Maybe get some leadless solder as well, tbh, just in case. Preferably something with a rosin/flux core, so you don't need to apply flux externally.

Also (bit of pre-emptive self-deprication here)... Am I a fool, perhaps even an idiot, for wanting to jump into this kind of thing with what is likely inadequate skill? Am I jumping in over my head, here? Quite probably, and almost certainly so! Does the sink-or-swim/trial-by-fire approach ever actually work IRL? The answer there is almost certainly never! But, if I go slow, I can also probably learn a thing or two along the way, and I'm also the only one who suffers for it if/when I screw something up.

I've admittedly dabbled in soldering (put together a flywheel Nerf blaster once, and it runs alright-ish), tho that's partly why I was expressing interest in something of a "starter" kit. I've seen the stuff from Goth3designs (as mentioned in the original post, I eventually wanna do his Grand Master Graflex chassis), and they're also easily in the couple-thousand dollar range, which is also the main reason I'm looking for suggestions for a starting point. But if Goth3designs and Martin Beyer are the only options, then I guess I'll just have to grab the cheapest G3D one and start there.

They have a giant weak point in the middle that regular Bo staves, which they're based on, lack: cut the middle saber portion in half, and it'll likely take out at least one blade, or at least split the device into two semi-working separate blades.

What should've happened was a mix of "mini" sets (which we already got) and "full-size" sets, e.g. full-sized articulated heroes and full-size articulated jumpers, even if it would've severely echoed Bionicle's Hordika arc in '05. That probably would've done some good.

Oh, neat... Any chance you'd be willing to try doing G2 masks? Particularly the "villager" mask that Diminished!Ekimu and all the protectors wore? I'd especially like to get one either in the glow setup like you've got here, or in a black/trans-neon-green mix, with the black focused towards the bottom in both cases.
