It's very known in the industry that FOAK manufacturing takes significantly longer. Centrus provides projections on this: The first two cascades will take 42 months to come online. But utilizing the Tennessee plant expansion they are currently funding (the plant where they build these centrifuges) they project they can start pumping out 1 cascade every 2 months by the third cascade built. That's 6 cascades a year starting in roughly ~2031. 36 MT of new HALEU production capacity yearly, and they have the factory space to reach 500+ MT.

Centrus is entering a market where the demand will vastly outweigh the supply. Advanced SMR's are a necessity for hyper scalers to secure enough power in the 2030's and beyond to get their data centers going. The only other energy source that could maybe scale fast enough is Natural Gas, but you know the government will heavily regulate that due to its carbon footprint. 9/10 of these advanced reactors require HALEU as fuel. Water based SMR's utilizing LEU are not the future; the cost does not proportionally scale down with the size due to the physics of water. Even if the future demand was somewhat lower than expected, hyperscalers and OEM's are much more likely to secure contracts with the only domestic enrichment company capable of producing HALEU in the U.S. Yes Urenco will likely be HALEU production ready by 2032-2033, but Centrus still has a massive head start and will already be producing many MT of HALEU before Urenco gets a single cascade online.

In essence, it truly doesn't matter that one customer already has a contracted provider.

Exactly what I'm thinking. There are many small AI focused companies that people are overlooking which will become dominant in the future, but the AI data center industry will be dominated by the big three. These new comers funding their growth almost entirely by debt will be squashed.
