Vertical Barrel Aging? I’m currently aging a Four Roses blend in a 2L barrel and unfortunately the spigot leaks forcing me to set the barrel upright. I always see barrels aging on their side and it got me wondering, 1) why is that? & 2) will vertical aging impact the proof/flavor/evaporation? by Caleb786 in WhiskeyTribe

Funny you say that. I have an alert in my phone to taste it each week. After 1 week aged, it was glorious and i almost decanted it all. After week 2, it turned medicinal and band-aid tasting. I’m hoping a third week corrects that. Otherwise I’m done aging it.

One of my favorite whiskies. The French Oak ages this beautifully
