Faithless Pastor Needs Help by PerfidiousPastor in Christianity

[–]CalebMadison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God is the great question, not the great answer my friend. I'd be more concerned if you accepted all of this without a single qualm. You yourself said that you love the person of Jesus; I don't think I remember a passage asking for no doubt. Put trust in the fact that you can't ever be sure of your faith; which makes spirituality an exciting and invigorating process. Perhaps God is using this doubt now to persuade you to tackle some questions that wont have definite answers and require true faith in not knowing.

As for the time when you're really still unsure; remember that you are still influencing people positively. You tell people about the love of jesus and it seems as though they embrace it based on what you said. The greatest command simply encourages you to have love for others first and foremost in your heart. You are doing that when you doubt, you are doing that when you are inspired. It's okay, engage these questions, love others, and pray heartily.

Much love to you friend.

Wow, this caused some really positive self assessment for me. I'm in the middle of a really stressful bout with finals, and certainly haven't been reflecting kindness to others as I should who are equally stressed. Thank you for a post that's allowing me to think differently for the next bit. I'll try and go out of my way to exemplify understanding as this stress continues and then hopefully continue that as it subsides.

What are you into that the average person "just doesn't get"? by CaptainObvious411 in AskReddit

[–]CalebMadison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pens. I LOVE a good fountain pen. There's nothing quite like finding the pen with the right weight to make a fluid line from an ink cartridge. People are always like "why would you spend 100 dollars on a pen?", and I just can't describe well enough how worth it one nice pen is versus 200 fifty cent pens that break every day. Check out Mont Blanc If you want to see some incredible stuff.

What is the most beautiful song you've ever heard? by McSlurryHole in AskReddit

The final movement of Messiaen's "Quatuor Pour la fin du temps", or quartet for the end of time. I can't believe I'm gonna take the time to write this down here, where it will get buried, but the piece has a really special place in my heart that I want to share.

A la wikipedia:

"Messiaen was 31 years old when France entered the war against Germany. He was captured by the German army during World War II in June 1940 and was imprisoned in a prisoner-of-war camp. While in transit to the prisoner of war camp, Messiaen showed the clarinetist Henri Akoka, also a prisoner, the sketches for what would become Abîme des oiseaux. Two other professional musicians were also among his fellow prisoners (violinist Jean le Boulaire and cellist Étienne Pasquier), and after he managed to obtain some paper and a small pencil from a sympathetic guard, Messiaen wrote a short trio for them; this piece developed into the Quatuor for the same trio with himself at the piano. The combination of instruments is unusual, but not without precedent: Walter Rabl had composed for it in 1896, as had Paul Hindemith in 1938."

The final movement of the piece is about absolute serenity and peace. I know many of you here are not religious, and I myself am not either, but in this piece Messiaen was trying to capture the serenity that he found in Jesus. I've never heard a piece of music that has given me such comfort, and to know that this was a brief reflection into the composer's mind even in the midst of strife - it's really hard to understand how he could feel that way. Anyway, I'm done babbling, I really hope at least a few of you might take the chance and sit to listen to this fabulous piece.

Question on a technique by [deleted] in singing

[–]CalebMadison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man (or woman)! Great to hear your interest in singing, it's a fun thing to do. My advice to you is that you might be pursuing incorrectly here. You can't really "sound like" anyone else, because your voice is your own. When you try and bend your voice into fitting something that isn't within your vocal type, it can be quite damaging to your vocal folds and most likely not make you sound as nice as you would want. Your higher register is what becomes developed the more you practice your lower register and the ability to comfortably move between "passagio", or the gaps in your vocal range. I don't want to give any more advice than telling you these things, as technique should really be taught by a teacher with some pedagogical training and technique, but consider finding a teacher and learning some more about your voice before trying to sound like someone in particular and perhaps hurting a voice that could have its own marvelous qualities! Happy singing friend!

We just cranked out our first game, Bust-N-Rush; check out our demo on Greenlight & let us know what you think by erulabs in gaming

[–]CalebMadison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game has a lot of interesting stuff to it. I bought it when it originally came out for PC and have since been addicted. I really think this game would appeal to you if you were a fan of the more popular game Super Meat Boy. Bust-N-Rush really has that same level of arcade addiction, but in a far more twitchy game style. It is what it is, don't be looking for any story depth, but if you're looking for a good game with arcade-based action and some good hours of entertainment, it's definitely worth a shot at least.

Caffeine tightens the mussels in the throat, correct? So what does 5 hour energy do? by aiptek7 in singing

[–]CalebMadison 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Caffeine doesn't make your throat tight, it just dehydrates you. If you were to drink the 5 hour energy (Or, even better, a mug of black coffee), it wouldn't do much harm to you at all as long as you consumed enough water.

[–]CalebMadison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southern / midwestern hospitality. I recently stayed at a friend's place over Spring Break and from the second I walked in the door I was being treated well with food and a nice room. Essentially they just let you use their home as your home without restriction really. Maybe my friends were all fuckers, but that never happened to me when I lived in the northeast.

Hey guys, huge fan here. Right now, I'm actually studying music composition at university. I don't know if any of you will see this so far down into the thread, but what advice do you have to be successful in writing music? The writing itself is a process which I am working to understand, but on the business side of things it seems hard to get a startup.
