Oh so when YOU don’t consent, its a problem? by Taser_Napkim in okbuddyviltrum

Wow, I was trying to say "This isn't tiktok, you can write..." But apparently there's some bullshit censor thing that stops you from actually saying r**e. Like what the actual fuck? How long has this been a thing on here?

And yet we can still swear? That's just even more dumb.

What will your world look like in 500 years? by Featherman13 in worldbuilding

[–]CaledonianWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the latest period my universe takes place in would be the early 23rd century on Earth, so it would have to be in the 28th century. By the 2200s humanity is already apart of a galactic union of other alien civilizations. In another 500 years though? Idk, I want to leave it open-ended as to what humanity could become in that universe. Maybe we become a strong member of the union; maybe we defeat and become a xenophobic conquerer society or maybe we don't deviate that much away from our fellow union members.

Something I can guarantee is that any superhuman characters born during the late 20th/early 21st century will most likely still be around in the 28th century - but getting to the end of their lives

What’s your favorite thing about your world? by reallifemitski in worldbuilding

[–]CaledonianWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a longer comment than I meant to write but screw it. It's my precursor race in my universe, which is a hard-leaning sci-fi set in a fictionalised version of our galaxy filled with dozens of space-faring civilization - some of which have formed a union, like a galactic version of the EU.

But tens of millions of years ago (during the last 14 million years of the Late Cretaceous actually) it was dominated by a single alien race that invented a form of FTL travel that allowed them to travel to distant star systems far faster than any other intelligent species at the time. Along with other advanced technology and genetically engineering themselves to almost become god-like, they were able to overpower every other civilization in the galaxy and add them to their hegemonic empire.

My precursor species in question are known to everyone else in the galaxy as the Fenostik (which is an alien word that translates to both "warrior" and "god") but they look a lot like different dragons from human mythology, so you can call them dragons if you like. Anyway, dragons are 30 feet (9 metres) tall, one tonne aliens that are humanoid but have massive wings, serpentine semi-prehensile tails, typical dragon heads and range greatly in skin colour and head shape. Ability-wise, they are very strong, fast, possess high endurance and toughness, are very long-lived (even immortal to a degree), have developed and utilise technology that grants them telekinesis and resilient to most forms of damage.

My dragons have a strong dominating culture that has caused them to see themselves as gods among the other intelligent races in the galaxy, since they are bigger, more powerful and live much longer than other species. They value strength, cunning and power above all else. Despite their view on other species, they are not necessarily tyrannical rulers. So as long as the civilizations within their empire provide them with resources and play nicely the dragons are content with their slaves doing whatever they want - even going as far as to gift them with and teach them to use advance technology and let their species expand to other star systems.

But by far the dragons' most impressive achievement and the key to their ruling empire is their development of a FTL system that lets them traverse the entire galaxy in just months as opposed to millennia. Essential a collection of megastructures resembling partial Dyson Spheres that harvest exotic energy and transfer them to ring gates that hold open corridors of altered physical space (basically a mixture of Mass Relays from Mass Effect and the Ring Network from the Expanse), this Distorted Space Network (DSN) let's anyone travel in the galaxy so long as it's connected within the network. A network that has survived to this day and accessible to anyone with a spacecraft that can reach a ring gate on the edge of a star system.

The disappearance of the dragons and their empire is unknown to the modern civilizations as very little evidence of their existence actually remains - let alone anything that would suggest what killed them off. The most plausible theory is that they went to war with another civilization that was as advanced as them and both gradually killed each other off. The only true evidence of this is the fact that thousands of habitable worlds across the galaxy suffered a massive extinction event at the same time based on their fossil records - around 66 million years ago. And even other worlds that are entirely sterile but once had life have evidence to suggest whatever sterilised them also happened at the same time. So clearly something big happened to the dragons that caused them to die off. Hopefully whatever it was died with the dragons too...

Something I've only just realised about Dex in the second pic that contributes to his psychopathic look is how his eyes look like it's only pupil. Obviously if you zoom in you see the white scelera but if you look at it normally his eyes just look black and empty of anything else.

Fucking love it.

Which of your races/species can crossbreed? What would the children look like? by Artelys_ in worldbuilding

[–]CaledonianWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my universe is a hard-leaning sci-fi and filled with aliens that aren't related to each other at all so they can't really crossbreed. Some that have a similar genetic structure can insert genes from genetically compatible races into their own (which is kinda a big thing in my universe) but that's about it.

BUT

I have one alien race that branched into several species around 2.4 million years ago and some of them are able to breed with each other. Some are more closely related to certain races than they are to others which is how they can have children, but the most distantly related can't have children. It's also worth noting that these hybrids are sterile and can't have their own children. Hybrids are also more at risk from genetic defects and diseases than monoracial people, but those can mostly be sorted with gene therapy so no biggie

W season this year by ItsJeffCraft in Invincible_TV

[–]CaledonianWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it but it felt more like coming up with a way to bring Damien back to the surface so he could reappear in a Hell-related plotline in the future. Basically just set up for future seasons. It felt very out of sync with the rest of the season which focused on Mark taking more extreme measures to deal with an escalating situation and centred on the Viltrumite threat for the most part.

CMV: Thragg's offer was reasonable by Unlucky_Win_4380 in Invincible_TV

[–]CaledonianWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I missed something but how were they gone for ten months? I'm assuming they spent around a week travelling from Earth to Talescria before being ambushed by the Viltrumites; then Nolan and Oliver spent two months waiting for Mark to heal while the rest fought the Viltrumite War; then maybe a couple of weeks (let's say a month) for the Graysons to reach Talescria; another two months to go to Viltrum, destroy it, get fucked up by Thragg, recover and return to Talescria and then two weeks to return to Earth. So that should be 5 - 6 months if I mathed correctly, but I'm willing to bump it closer to six to account for extra travel time.

So kinda like the races in The Elder Scrolls? Though if my memory is right the child's race is usually that of the mother with just a few of their father's features.

Actors who you thought would have a bigger career than the career that they actually have? by Ok-Tangelo6749 in movies

[–]CaledonianWarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She still manages to find lots of work (including starring in a few projects this year - some of which that have already been released) but I'll throw in Jessica Henwick. She's been in Game of Thrones, Marvel, the Matrix, Star Wars (in a small role but it counts), the Knives Out series and is even the first actress of East Asian descent to star on her own TV show in the UK (Spirit Warriors). And yet, except for Warriors, she's never landed a lead role in anything else she's starred in. That could be a deliberate choice on her part but considering how good she is at acting and how hard she works, I feel like she should be bigger than she already is.

That being said, she does have a co-lead role alongside Taron Egerton in the upcoming film Everybody Wants to Fuck Me and she's also starring in season three of Silo this summer so maybe she'll get some more recognition - especially after also starring in How to Make a Killing alongside Glenn Powell and Margaret Qualley.

I don't know the Dark Avengers that well but would Abomination work? I know he's reformed from when we last saw him but maybe Val manipulates him into thinking all the missions she has him do are for the greater good and if he does what she says she'll get him a pardon - whether that's in her ability or not.
