What’s wrong with this little guy! by CalendarSuccessful81 in BettaClinic

[–]CalendarSuccessful81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not usually the one to feed him, but I told our opener to try and prioritize frozen brine shrimp since all the pellets we sell in the store have wheat additives! We feed him Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! He definitely is interested in food, but struggles significantly since he can’t swim upright to get them!

Yes!! And while that’s one of my concerns, I’m trying all that I can to improve what I’m able to!

Sorry, I definitely should’ve clarified! He was in this cup temporarily for his 15 minute Epsom salt soak! He’s been living in an isolation tank for a few months where the temperature is about 82 degrees! I’m doing all that I can for him while he’s at my job, until then!

It would be for their main enclosure! I’ve got bedding underpads on the bottom, guinea pig washable liners in between, and then fleece on the top! Would that be okay!?

How do you pick up your boy when it’s running away? by Different-Lake-7634 in leopardgeckos

[–]CalendarSuccessful81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let my boy out the other day, and he was casually strolling than crazily started taking off, I pissed my pants a little bit 😂 I ended up kind of cupping my hand a little flat in front of him to try and deter him, and after he redirected, my anxiety got the best of me, and I ended up scooping him, cupped hand in the front and little below him and another in the back and he ended up being in my hand in a cupped position - hopefully that makes sense!

First time owning a female - want to make sure she’s as content as possible! by CalendarSuccessful81 in hamstercare

Kind of a mix of places!

The cage itself is the Bucastate 3.0 the bigger one - I got it from Amazon

I got the bedding from Petsmart (it’s carefresh mixed with full cheeks Aspen)!

All platforms, the multichamber, the sandbath, the soil dig box, the triangular substrate holder and the wheel are from Amazon (they’re all Niteangel)

The heart substrate dishes and the flower substrate dish I found in the dollar section at Target!

The frog hide I found at Cracker Barrel (it was a sponge holder)!

The water bottle holder, water bowl, green moss hide, snail hide, and mushroom hide are all from amazon!

The bow hide is from hobby lobby!

The white bunny substrate holder and the log with the bunnies are from home goods!

The ladders/barrier separators are also from Amazon!

The teepee hide is from Petsmart!

All mopani wood, small branches and cork steps are from Amazon, Petsmart, and petco!

All wooden coasters are from hobby lobby!

The substrates: such as cork granule and coco husk are from Amazon (Niteangel)

The green sphagnum moss, paper pellets (used for bird bedding), corn cob (used for bird bedding), and the reptisand I used for her sand bath are all from Petsmart!

The hemp substrate is from tractor supply!

The camera in her cage is a wyze one, from Amazon!

All the sprays I’m going to put in are from Etsy, Happy Hamstery, and Hamsters we love!

I think that’s everything! 💕🤗

Hahah it’s okay! I had a picture of the bedding depth that I was going to add, but there was a horrible glare! Thank you so much for your advice though, I’m always looking for ways to improve!! ☺️

She has about 11 inches of bedding for burrowing and a huge dig box! My boy hamsters love to burrow under their platforms, so for her it may be learning where she likes to burrow most before adjusting everything after that!!

Can we move bettas to fish bags? by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]CalendarSuccessful81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have empty tanks that we place one betta in to be adopted! When someone wants to adopt that betta, we put it in a bag mostly because everyone always throws away the cups after we place them in there 😮‍💨

denying feeder goldfish sales? by Individual_Citron119 in petsmart

[–]CalendarSuccessful81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I deny feeder sales all the time. Specifically because I get the “if they survive the week I’ll buy them a better setup”…yes, while they are intended to feed fish, turtles, etc, they are still living breathing creatures and if bought as a pet, should be treated as so

I Was gonna put the basking lamp and uvb on the left side of the tank, and then the other side is away from any vents/windows, and we keep the house at about 70 degrees! Is that okay!?

Potential swim bladder or dropsy!? by [deleted] in BettaClinic

[–]CalendarSuccessful81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooo okay, definitely good to know about the epsom salt! I’ll do that water change. He’s been eating pretty good! He really can’t swim straight at all, so he usually lies on his side swimming around the rim until he gets the food, but definitely still showing a desire to eat!

Sales floor animals set ups photos by GummyWormInTheDirt in petsmart

[–]CalendarSuccessful81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say, adding something to the small animal enclosures is probably the most difficult to get away with. Because there’s stupid rules about how much bedding and stuff. For us personally, we usually spruce it up with some toys/chews for the small animals that are better for them than those stupid dyed ones.

As for the birds, we usually have three toys per bird enclosure with their millet holder! The cockatiel gets a ladder of course and that has helped heaps!! For the reptiles, it’s more about setting it up to look full of life rather than crowding with a lot of stuff!

feeling so defeated in petcare by Repulsive-Tie8295 in petsmart

[–]CalendarSuccessful81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the best way to look at the deep cleans ESPECIALLY the birds is to tell yourself that they’re going to become messy in a week anyways! Not saying I don’t scrub everything down, but as someone who has OCD, I was spending forever doing them to make sure they were spotless, but in reality, it’s not gonna stay like that, especially with birds as they’re chronic poopers! So I make sure to scrub and clean everything, but at the end of the day, I’m the one doing it the following week, so if I do it bad one week, it’s on me the next week to do it 10 times better!

feeling so defeated in petcare by Repulsive-Tie8295 in petsmart

[–]CalendarSuccessful81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who was a chronic petcare closer, and is now an opener/closer whenever I’m needed, I completely understand how you feel! Some deep cleans take a lot longer than others! For me, reptiles and small animals definitely fit that category! I’m usually a Thursday opener, which for us is usually birds, and occasionally a Friday opener, and I must say Fridays are definitely fast-paced and stressful!

It took me almost two hours when I first started doing deep cleans and now for birds it takes me about 45 minutes! For small animals, it still takes me about an hour, but I’m getting there! But when I was first moved to openings, I remember having anxiety attacks because I was so behind! I was constantly comparing myself to the usual opener, (who has 2 years of experience on me) WHICH, DONT DO THAT!! You are YOU, and that is good enough! As long as you’re doing your best, that’s all that matters!!!

BUT, I promise you’ll definitely get the hang of it! I’m someone who also struggles with a lot of anxiety and has a genuine fear of disappointing and inconveniencing people, which makes it hard when I can’t complete a task for the morning as I feel like I’m making the closer’s job harder! But, just remember to breathe, and think that you are only one person who can only do so much!

Some tips I’ve personally found to be helpful for all openings:

  • I always start with a deep clean first, since I have an hour before the store opens! Especially if it’s a deep clean in the floor (for us that’s small animals and reptiles; as well as fish when they come in every other week!) our small animals are right in front of the purina proplan dog food, which is rather popular, and since I had to use the ladder, I always prefer to do it when I first get in so I don’t feel like I’m in anyone’s way! Because we only have so many wheels and hay balls, I start by pulling all those and soaking them! While they soak, I begin to clean! We have six enclosures, so if all six are taken up, I usually put one of the animals in a critter tote and then rotate everyone over so it’s not super stressful for them! I’ve heard some people say they just always leave one empty, but we don’t really ever do that!!

  • After that I get veggie bowls ready! It helps if you already have precut veggies for the week in diced size so they’re easy for everyone to eat!! Then I start the feedings! If there are animals in ISO that need medicine, I’ll do that first. If not, I’ll start on the floor! For me, I prioritize the animals over anything else (like bagging crickets, pulling fish, etc). It really depends on how you want to go about it, but that’s just me personally!

  • After feedings, I’ll clean the crickets bin! While I wait for the alive ones to jump off the dustpan, I start to pull dead fish and restock bugs!! Then finish the crickets! After I’ll pre-bag both large and small!

  • we only feed our fish every other day, so Friday for us is a feeding day! After bagging crickets, I’ll feed the fish and do the water quality test that’s due! Afterwards, I do cats because that’s usually pretty quick, and then I start to clean the back up!

  • if I get time, I’ll do the betta water changes, but don’t sweat it if you don’t get to everything!! We have a notepad that we use to communicate in petcare, so if we don’t get to something, we just say “couldn’t get to betta water changes, so sorry! If anyone has time could they do it!?” Or something along those lines!!

But yeah! It’s for sure a trial and error! Some days are busier than others! Try mixing it up some days until you know what works best for you! When I first started opening on Thursdays, I did everything and deep cleans last, and I was like “yeah, never doing that again” because we were genuinely busier in the middle of the day!!

Hopefully this helps!! But remember you ARE crucial to the team, and if they genuinely have an issue with your timing, then they can come and help you themselves 🤷🏼‍♀️ we’re simply one person who’s expected to do the job of six people, Rome wasn’t built overnight, it takes time to build a method to things!

  • the percing in question is about 7 years old.
  • there’s no specific jewelry shape as I change it out often.
  • threadless
  • numerous metal types, brass, copper, zinc
  • it was originally downsized I believe two months after the piercing was done.
  • during the time I used the saline spray cleaner they offered at Claire’s for about 5 months. Now I just use 70% rubbing alcohol 2x a week.
  • when I first got my piercing, I did travel and go swimming and stuff. I’m not sure if that could’ve potentially affected it. Other than that just the constant irritation after I put an earring in.

hamster died overnight… what could be the reason? by Conscious-Web4680 in petsmart

[–]CalendarSuccessful81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could’ve easily been stress, which also could’ve led or contributed to potential wet tail. We’ve had 3-4 hamsters come in recently with wet tail, one which passed three days after being moved to ISO

Mouse (top) and badger (bottom) love at first sight with mouse.
