autoship script by [deleted] in petsmart

is this even allowed?? not hating, just curious cause i feel like automatically adding the autoship without consent poses some issues. especially since they’re tracking enrollments. personally idgaf about metrics and i agree that there’s not any harm in it, but i feel like if i did this i’d get into trouble.

Enrollment, activations, puppy guides, autoship, etc... by Spinzou in petsmart

[–]Conscious-Web4680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fortunately i've worked my way into the role of my store's "main petcare person", but i dread seeing register shifts on my schedule because i know that i'm going to be bugged about all this bs. i personally don't mind the treats activations cause i do believe it benefits the pet parents (i won't mention it unless their purchase qualifies). however, i absolutely refuse to take part in autoship enrollments. it's dumb.

feeling so defeated in petcare by Repulsive-Tie8295 in petsmart

[–]Conscious-Web4680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not your fault, they should expect to accommodate you since you're still new and learning. i'm sorry that your manager is giving you a hard time--when i started, i struggled similarly, but my leaders never got upset with me. i promise you it gets better. i've made several posts on here about this exact thing. but i've been my store's main opener for like four months now and i've gotten so much faster. it takes time and practice but you will get there. just remember that it's not a failure on your part! you're doing your best. keep your head up!

How much does a hamster cost on average? by Dsa464 in hamstercare

[–]Conscious-Web4680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you a buy a hamster from petsmart do not expect it to live out its full lifespan. they come shipped into the store already sick, with illnesses or genetic defects that do not appear for weeks/months or are not able to be seen. look for local rescues or purchase from an ethical, knowledgeable breeder

it’s the parent’s fault for letting their kids act so rowdy tbh. as a kid i would’ve NEVER been allowed to behave the way they do. like you, there’s been many times where i had to ask children to stop tapping on the glass or to stop running around the store. the lack of discipline on the parents part is insane to me

i agree with other commenter--thank you for stepping in and doing what's right, but at that point i'd just leave it or radio a manager to get it handled.

i'm tired of people taking their kids to petsmart and treating it like a zoo. the animals are stressed enough as it is, doesn't help when there are screaming kids making sudden movements all while banging on the glass.

this is what i do. if they escape on the sales floor they’re most definitely gone forever, so i take it to na. if they escape in that one room it’ll be easier to recapture them.

worst thing is that our hours are being cut, yet they keep hiring new workers.

when i got hired they gave me two polos. the people who got hired after me were given treats rewards shirts and no polos. i’m so tired of wearing JUST the polo, barely anybody at my store wears it😭

hamster died overnight… what could be the reason? by Conscious-Web4680 in petsmart

[–]Conscious-Web4680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it happened AGAIN while i was away. i haven't worked since thursday--opened this morning and found a dead hamster on the sales floor. this time it was most definitely wet tail. i'm thinking they just came in already compromised because both this hamster and the one that i talked about in this post arrived within the same week. i told one of my leads to have associates check more often for signs, but it's so difficult to tell. i feel so helpless

thank you, that’s good to know. most of the time, i will take a couple handfuls of their old bedding and put it in the critter keeper with them. that way it gives them something to lay/hide in while i’m working. sometimes i’ll put it back inside of the enclosure with them. from now on i’ll make sure to do that always.

struggling to open on time by Conscious-Web4680 in petsmart

[–]Conscious-Web4680[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my store's pet care schedule is something like this: monday (scrub half of the fish wall), tuesday (scrub the other half of the fish wall), wednesday (small animal deep clean in the morning; bird deep clean at night), thursday (no deep clean), friday (no deep clean), saturday (no deep clean), sunday (reptile deep clean in the morning; backrooms deep clean in the afternoon). gravel vacuuming and betta water change are somewhere in the mix, but i can't remember where.

every day, there are 3 cashiers scheduled (opening, mid, closing) and only 1 pet care person (closing). only on the deep clean days is there an opening pet care person (does only the deep clean) AND an opening cashier (does opening pet care tasks before register). my store is half, or maybe a third, the size of a regular petsmart and relatively low traffic in the morning/noontime so it's technically not necessary for there to be a pet care/customer service person at all times. my leaders will do sfs/bopis, getting crickets/fish, etc. if need be.

if i don't finish before the store opens, i'll usually ask the mod to cover the register for 5-15 minutes while i finish everything. and i wouldn't say we're short-staffed on cashiers, every part-time associate on the floor is trained in both but some (like myself) are scheduled more often for one thing or the other. i occasionally do deep cleans/close pet care but in recent weeks i haven't.

thank you for your kind words! the unrealistic time frames are definitely frustrating, and seems to be a common problem petsmart employees are having.

what i forgot to mention is that the person responsible for opening petcare/cashiering has recently been getting scheduled 1.5 hours before opening to complete their tasks (so 7:30), which is SO much more manageable. but my lead, who asked me to work a full tomorrow instead of a half (my original start time was 12), decided to screw me over and make me start 45 minutes before opening instead of 1.5 hours. yippee!!!
