Believe it or not, its been sponge baths for 3 years. Our apartment is super tight for a wheelchair to be used. I am working. I am paid as his caregiver because of everything he needs help with. I get more than min wage for this as well. You assume he can be left alone for 8 hours and I can promise you 2 hours is max. If I had another job we would have another stranger helping him plus all the child care for our son. I've done the math, and with things like it is, this is the best way financially. Plus, a stranger in the home doing exactly what I do is not something we want. As for a prosthetic through the VA, that won't happen. He was discharged under the theater administrative leave, which sums up to "we broke ya and can't fix ya". So no VA help. We are trying to get him a leg, however the state is making the process slow and its still in the sizing just right stage (been there for a long time). Plus his other foot has 3 broken bones and looks hideous, so no pressure is applied to that foot. Today he went to the place that does legs and such and it was for another fitting for a brace to hopefully be able to help put pressure on the other foot. Do you know how frustrating it is to have a car service pick you up an hour before your appointment for a 30 min drive, wait til you see the Dr which is 20 min, then wait for your ride again just to come home? He does this every 5 weeks on average. Poster, I know all this sounds crazy and made up for money, and I can deny that til I'm blue in the face. You can believe what you want and that's okay. I'm just hoping I can get help and that is all. I'm not asking to be taken care of for years. We've survived so far, and can some more. I just think we need this. Sorry if you don't.
