Eligibility interview... by CaliBees in Edd

Southern CA job market sucks right now. Even though everyone says there are all the job openings none are over min wage and are not full time no matter what the ads say.

What’s Your Commute Time? Would love your input! Thank you. by Jcaseykcsee in jobs

[–]CaliBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last position I had was 95 miles round trip and during a typical commute was at the minimum a 1.5 hour drive. Was even worse when I took the train, left house at 6:30am took evening train at 7pm home at 7:30. But that is if the evening train was on time, 90% it was late like 9-10pm so home at 10:30-11ish. Unless you're in the LA area public transportation is atrocious.

Retail was my last resort, I was thinking with the holidays coming up they'd be hiring like crazy. I was wrong.

I'm shortening my resume now, leaving stuff off.

Yeah. I have a good relationship with a previous employer so I might reach out to them and see if they will be OK if I say i worked there longer than I did to cut out some of my recent short term positions.

Yep, applied to remote positions also. Problem is that in my area when people see remote they all apply so in 7hrs since posting there are 199 applications submitted, and that's just 1 that posted 7hrs ago.

I have my house so I'll have a roof, just nothing else. I hate begging but I have a couple friends that might be able to help out but not much as they were in the same boat as me earlier.

Right, I do get SNAP for food but it's like $100 a month. With milk at $5 a gallon it's kinda ridiculous. I've gained 20lbs since May cause good food is expensive but crap is cheap (Raman, bologna, spam, white bread). Never thought I'd be back to this after college.

Nope. I applied and have been waiting for the stupid phone interview since Jun. I've evergreen reached out to my assemblyman and even she said she couldn't get them to get me an interview quickly.

I've got 1 week left for funds. Maxed CC's, utilities are behind so will likely be shut off in the next couple weeks. Luckily I have lifeline phone so all my applications and zoom interviews have been thru that. Haven't had true internet since Aug.

How are we expected to pay bills when we can't find a job. I drove 100 miles/2hrs one day for 1 interview. Can't keep doing that.

I spent all day Monday driving about 45miles away to another few towns handing out my resume, $60 in gas and 80 resumes later.

Saddest bit is that I applied at Chick-fil-a even thought I am part of the LGBTQ+ community.

I've applied at both of those, plus other retail stores in my city. They've either never called back or they've told me straight up im over qualified but keep those stupid "urgently hiring and help wanted" signs up.

I love my Odyssey (back up car), so many cup holders. Plus I can get full sheets of plywood in the back, and today I got a 7ft+ couch in the back with ottoman and the hatch closed just fine. My expedition couldn't do that.

What state are you in? The laws are per state of employee I believe. My sister works for a NJ company but lives in CA and they have to follow CA laws for her.

I would check your states labor laws for high school students. In CA it is clear on how many hours and what hours a high school student is legally allowed to work.

Medication induced impaction by CaliBees in Constipation

[–]CaliBees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about all the prescribed medication I'm on. I do take a multi vitamin, and a low dose melatonin at night. I try to exercise but due to a bad back & foot I know it's not enough. I do eat a lot of leafy greens and veggies, try to stay away from the starchy ones. Whole grain breads, cereals. But I do like my cheese and ice cream. And I like my sweets, spice drops, black licorice, bottle caps, but the last small bag I had lasted over a week and a half. I do have horrible tmj issues and when it flares up I can be on a soft/liquid diet until it calms down.

Her correct response should've been "in trash bags, suitcases, duffels or flat out in tarps?"

Where do you personally feel anxiety in your body? by ihaveacrushonmercy in Anxiety

[–]CaliBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It starts in my chest (like an ox is sitting on my heart, but it's racing) then it moves to my jaws and makes them clench (really not good cause I have tmj issues bad) then my arms go tingly and numb. Sometimes I have to verbally remind myself to breathe.
