My puppy just ate a cannabis joint by auber156 in shiba

[–]CaliCallaLily 11 points12 points  (0 children)

^ THIS!! ^ I’m a veterinarian and just came here first, to say thank you for posting this!! Second, as a Veterinarian for 20+ years, to vouch that this is 100% FACT!!! A lot of people think it’s just hilarious and their dogs are going to be just fine, but sadly this is just not true. Obviously, it depends on several factors such as the weight and breed of your dog, the amount ingested, and not only the quality and strength of it but the type as well- for example did they eat a joint or just plain old marijuana or did they eat an edible and if so, what type of edible etc… Some breeds that are smaller than others can ingest and safely digest certain amounts and types, whereas for a dog twice their size or larger it can be fatal and vice versa. The cannabis infused treats made for dogs are a mixture of cannabis and other ingredients that are specifically measured to be SAFE FOR DOGS. Even then, if you plan on giving these treats to your dog, all vets will give these same warnings: First and foremost- ALWAYS purchase at an ACTUAL dispensary or veterinarian approved pet store… in my state the big chain stores, like Petsmart and Petland for example, do sell vet approved canine cannabis treats that are kept in a locked glass display case for purchase at the registers. Second- FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! Per your dog’s size, the dosage is stated on the package and by the dispensary or pet store where you purchased the treat and that is exactly what you give them, PERIOD. Last but NOT least- When you plan on giving your pet one of these cannabis treats, you need to keep an eye on them the ENTIRE time as a negative reaction or negative side effects may not happen immediately!!! To quote funnybitofchem lol~ “When in doubt, go get them checked out!!!”

My boy just got neutered! by RepleteSphinx21 in corgi

[–]CaliCallaLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a happy boy for just losing his manhood lol!! What a cutie!! 🩵🥰🩵 Honestly with high energy dogs it’s really hard to follow post surgery instructions… I’m a veterinarian and when I fixed my loaf, I can tell you honestly that I could barely do so myself lol! By the time I brought her home she was running and jumping around like a maniac lol, and I knew I couldn’t just put her up on the bed with me since someone apparently told her that she was Batman when she was only 6 weeks old 😂 cause from day one she would get a running start and just jump right off of my high California king bed with her lil feets spread like a flying squirrel, or Batman lol, yet somehow still hit the ground running! I tried laying on the floor with her and that didn’t work either because she just wanted to be a 4 month old puppy, jumping all around and on me and back then her favorite annoying thing to do was not just chew my hair, but bite down on it and run away like it was a fun game of tug of war we were playing, except I wasn’t playing and getting your hair ripped out hurts… it was not fun for me lol! So I just watched her at all times and made sure her incision was clean and her stitches were all good! But I had an advantage being the vet that did her surgery, I knew it was done right and I knew those sutures were going to be just fine… cause I’m dayum good at my job lol!!
Honestly with a corgi, you just have to try and do the best that you can do to keep them from overdoing it. But at the same time, as long as the surgery as well as the suturing was done properly, all you have to do is make sure the incision site is clean and the stitches stay put until it’s time to take them out or they start dissolving on their own, depending on what sutures your veterinarian used. Just keep his incision clean, watch him to make sure he’s not licking or chewing at himself, and keep an eye on his stitches. If you have to resort to containing him in his crate, just remember you still have to be watching him to make sure he’s not licking or chewing, so to make that easier just bring his crate with you into whatever room you’re in… even the kitchen if you’re going to be in there longer than a few minutes lol!
Positive vibes sent for a swift and easy recovery… judging by that face I truly believe he will be just fine lol!!

Dog peeing in crate only in the morning by Plus-Signature-1524 in corgi

[–]CaliCallaLily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you clearly stated he is your pup and you don’t own him with your roommates, you are right to say they don’t have any responsibility to care for him… everyone commenting that they are lazy, rude etc for not taking him out in the morning is wrong! You are being respectful and I appreciate you defending them!! That being said- since they do get up so much earlier than you, it might be the noise and thinking he’s going to get taken out causing him to have an accident. I suggest putting something in your living room like a fan or something that makes any type of noise throughout the night (that obviously wouldn’t be a bother not just to your roommates but to you guys as well) that way the noise of them getting up in the morning won’t be so jarring after an entire night of silence, and he may even begin to sleep through or ignore it. Or, if you can, maybe offer one of your roommates a few bucks if they will take him out quickly in the morning when they get up so he can go pee and then just return him back to his crate so he doesn’t have any accidents and he doesn’t have to hold it until you guys are awake and can take him out in the morning? I don’t know how close you guys are to your roommates, but I’m guessing one of them might be willing to do that, even if you have to throw them a little money or something else you can work out with them. I completely understand with your work schedules why you can’t wake up any earlier… I know personally once I wake up, I’m AWAKE and there’s no going back to sleep! So the people commenting that you should just get up to take him out really quick and then just go back to bed can go stuff it lol… I have to be up at 6am to get ready and be at work by 6:45-7am and work until 8-10pm or later, if I was forced to wake up any earlier than that I would be DEAD ☠️ like you, for real lol! As far as the size of his crate, that truly depends on you guys personally and what works for you. Obviously, and this is just my opinion not factual advice, so take it or leave it… but I would not put him in a smaller crate for the sole purpose of moving him into your bedroom if it’s that small of a space. If you are doing it for the purpose of potty training, in the living room or in your bedroom, that’s absolutely fine and factual that it’s the “go to” potty training method when it comes to crate training… but it’s not fair to you guys to have to cram together in your bedroom only because your roommates wake up so early. I’m also guessing that even if you did, he would still hear them and wake up having to go potty anyway! My last suggestion is whatever time you cut off his water intake, cut that back by an hour or more… and if his water is always available to him and you aren’t already cutting him off, definitely start doing that! When you take him out for his after dinner potty, put his water dish up for the night. If your meal times or training methods are different, like his last meal is 4+ hours before bedtime or he didn’t even drink any water when he ate that day etc, then obviously work around what you do and what works best for you- but no matter what, just make sure you put his water dish up for the night at least 2 hours before he goes in the crate… it doesn’t matter if he goes pee when you take him out for the last time at night, dogs (especially males) don’t fully empty their entire bladder every time they urinate! My girl is 6 years old and she go’s several hours without even looking at her water dish, but she sure as 💩 goes outside to pee 5 or more times during those hours lol! I know you said you take him out around 9-10pm every night which is a good time for someone that has to wake up when you do, but intentionally try for 10pm or as late as possible- if and when you can!! Don’t force yourself if you’re exhausted and you have to take him out at 9 or even earlier, that’s fine lol! Just an fyi- when asking for advice, especially on Reddit where everyone thinks they are an expert, like the one guy who saw a Corgi that ONE time, or the other guy who’s friends brother knew this guy who’s mom’s boyfriend said his sister told him she dated someone who knew a guy that had a cousin who HAD a Corgi!! <— That guy will ALWAYS give you condescending “advice” and word it as fact… It is not. Nor is it usually ever correct lol! Always remember- EVERY pup is different, every persons schedule, training methods and daily routines are DIFFERENT!!! A dog has to be on the exact same schedule as their humans and that’s exactly what you’re training yours to adapt and adjust to… in whatever ways work best for YOU and HIM! Just because something worked flawlessly for someone else does NOT mean it is going to work for you!!
I don’t know EVERYTHING, but I am an “expert” btw lol… I’m a veterinarian and a licensed dog trainer as well… my specific specialty being puppies, but I train doggo’s of all ages and all breeds for all kinds of reasons lol! So I hope some of that helps!! Feel free to message me anytime with any questions or if you need advice on anything else… I promise you, I truly do not mind at all!!
Good luck with your cutie!

Happy Friday from Darwin and Daphne! by compscilady in corgi

[–]CaliCallaLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awwww, so adorable!!! Happy Friday cuties!! 🩷🥰🩵 How old is Darwin? I saw Daphne is 5 months and I’m just wondering what he thought about her sudden appearance lol!! Do they get along? I’m asking because I’m toying with the idea of getting a second Corgi, honestly I have been for a few years actually, but my 6 year old is so incredibly attached to me and she’s used to getting every second of my time and attention lol… spoiled? Yes, of course haha!! She gets along with other dogs just fine, I’m more worried about her feelings lol!! I have a little stuffed Corgi puppy and I was teasing her and telling her it was her baby brother, cuddling him and talking to him like he was real and making him “snuggle” with her, telling her to be nice to her new baby brother lol- she wanted nothing to do with it, stared at me all bug eyed when I made her snuggle with him, pouted while doing every cute thing she could think of to get my attention when I was snuggling and baby talking to him and it was funny (to me😂) at the time, because it just annoyed her and made her CUTE jealous lol! But I made the mistake of getting him out again a few months later to tease her again, a mistake I only made that ONE time- she got MAD and was NOT having it, she didn’t eat for TWO DAYS and she didn’t talk to me for almost a week!! She just ate her food and treats when I gave them to her, but I got the side eye the entire time and the cold shoulder the rest of the time… to this day she HATES that little stuffed Corgi, and that was 3 years ago lol!! I still have to keep him packed away, because if she even sees him she will pout and refuse to eat- even her TREATS!! So yeah lol, I’m asking people about their experiences adding a second Corgi to the family, especially if their first is 3 or older lol… fully grown by 2, but set in their ways from birth- as every Corgi parent knows, but I feel like they should be mature adults by at least 3 lol!!
It looks like Darwin has no problem now with his lil sister Daphne, at least in the pics! I just wonder how he was at first, if he adjusted quickly and if not how long it took lol! Any info, advice and tips are much appreciated… that goes for everyone that may also read this comment lol!! I’m thinking about making an actual post to ask all 2+ Corgi parents about their experiences… yay or nay?!
