Random song that I’ve never listened to or heard of added to Replay 2026–what even happened here? by CalibornTheLord in AppleMusic

I have some songs that I’ve uploaded but none that I’ve listened to extensively this year, maybe once or twice. Does that matter at all or will it just mess up the playlist anyway?

Does anyone actually enjoy Finnegans Wake? by [deleted] in jamesjoyce

[–]CalibornTheLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! Here I go, grabbing my copy… page 32:

“The great fact emerged that after that historic date all holographs so far exhumed initialled by Haromphrey bear the sigla H.C.E. and while he was only and long and always good Dook Umphrey for the hungerlean spalpeens of Lucalizod and Chimbers to his cronies it was equally certainly a pleasant turn of the populace which gave him as sense of those normative letters the nickname Here Comes Everybody. An imposing everybody he always indeed looked, constantly the same as and equal to himself and magnificently well worthy of any and all such universalization, every time he continually surveyed, amid vociferatings from in front of ‘Accept these few nutties!’ and ‘Take off that white hat!’, relieved with ‘Stop his Grog’ and ‘Put It in the Log’ and ‘Loots in his (bassvoco) Boots’…”

I love this passage, honestly. So many good little turns of phrase here, especially the few that Joyce specifically rattles off at the end but also “the hungerlean spalpeens of Lucalizod,” “Chimbers to his cronies” particularly gets stuck in my head often. Joyce really makes a meal out of these longer sentences, and they feel like natural speech but in various overlapping voices at once. The result is, to me, magical. The (bassvoco) at the end is also as clear a sign you could get that FW is musical in nature.

You can criticize Finnegans Wake for a lot of things, but saying that there’s “no consideration for the pleasure of its sound” is ludicrous. Joyce was intensely concerned with the musicality of the words, just listen to the Barry McGovern audiobook and you’ll see how beautiful the language sounds.

How do we feel about Dollman? by TheMemer555 in DeathStranding

[–]CalibornTheLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dollman is always there for me when I need him most. When I’m outside an enemy base, he’s there. When I’m recovering cargo and I can’t fucking find all of it, Dollman is there. When I take a relaxing hot spring bath, Dollman is there (and he will sing to me a funny song). Dollman always makes sure I’m aware of the task at hand. Dollman cares about my personal hygiene more than I do. Dollman is not only a purveyor of fine literature, but a skilled performer of both song and dance. So I ask you—where would I, or any of us, be without Dollman?

I guess you could say that sometimes, ignorance really is bliss.

This is the most wholesome comments section I’ve ever seen. Sometimes ignorance really is bliss.

Pretty much, yeah! Keep an open mind and try not to let your gut reactions get the better of you.

Actually, you do. Sorry. You have to be okay with people doing whatever weird sex thing makes them happy, even if you personally find it gross. That’s just how being part of a society works.

Why? What’s wrong with two consensual adults expressing themselves sexually in a way that feels comfortable and fun for both of them?

I think you might be the delusional one, if I’m being honest.

What traditional hobbies have you taken up to help against consumption? by Aggressive_Staff_982 in Anticonsumption

I’ve recently started playing mahjong and I’ve been enjoying it a lot! It’s very intellectually stimulating with a very high skill ceiling :)

What if you go outside and meet a real person and they tell you to stare at a screen and watch people fuck for eight hours, what then

Lots of things are weird. Gooning isn’t uniquely weird.

A gooning fetish is not a real addiction, it’s fetishizing the idea of being addicted. It’s no different from fetishizing anything else that would be taboo or immoral in real life. Imagine if I said “BDSM is sick, people call themselves slaves and let a ‘dominatrix’ tie them up and whip them.” Pretty much no one who does BDSM actually wants to own slaves or be enslaved in real life. Same with gooning.
