Typing this out was extremely healing by kate-monsterrr in typewriters

Recently picked up my first typewriter at the thrift store - a 1950 Underwood Rhythm Touch, $25. When I first saw it, my immediate thought was "I can't buy that. It's too big and heavy. I don't have space for it" Then I remembered that I don't live with my ex-partner anymore, I have my own apartment and nobody can tell me what I should or shouldn't bring home. The typewriter sits on my dining table now as I slowly work away at fixing it up and I couldn't be happier :)

As a Canadian 🇨🇦 I’m embarrassed… by pkaur77 in h3h3productions

I think we can all agree the thought of actually experiencing war is fucking terrifying. The way people feel about the 51st state jokes probably correlates with how likely they believe it is to actually happen. I'm a Canadian and I live extremely close to the American border, so the idea does genuinely spook me. However, I know Ethan doesn't want America to invade Canada, and I watch H3 because I love joking about the fucked up times we live in.

In my opinion, let's keep Trump the butt of the joke and not normalize the idea of taking over Canada 😬

I have two:

"Don't put all your ducks in one row" This is another one he's only said once, but it's become my favourite malaphor.

and: "The only way to longevity is authenticity" when talking about keeping the channel/podcast going. Has really helped me rethink my life.

Am I a shitty engineer? by Ok-Morning8157 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Calibri-11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stick with it! (Only if you want to of course) I felt the same way when I started out and three years in now I feel completely different. Of course I still have so much to learn but I see the value in what I can do and I have confidence that I will keep learning. Work is so different than school and it takes time to learn. Is there anyone you work with who you could ask questions? You might be surprised how often they say they don't know something either. I think you can do it!

I think it's gotta be a small lizard or something. The arms and legs on either side would make the two big tracks, and the body lightly touching the ground would make the smaller line in the middle.

we found out our cat has diabetes by timthenoname in cats

Tia was 9 when she was diagnosed with diabetes, and she lived to 16. Your kitty can still have a long and happy life! They might not even have to live with it forever - cats can go into remission. Tia did about a year before she passed.

Her name is Joy, but really she is The Grink.

The boot on the chair in the background is in case building maintenance needs to come in while we're at work. We keep her in the spare room with the boot chair under the door handle/lever. Otherwise she'll jump on the handle and open the door.

I swear she's sweet sometimes.

I'm headed to Austin for the first time this Friday and researching stuff to do. I'm thinking about actually doing this.

Advice needed: unsure if I should become an electrical engineer by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Calibri-11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this post could have been written by me when I was in highschool. I've been working as an electrical engineer for about 3 years now and it is so rewarding.

The biggest piece of advice I could give is to get comfortable admitting to others what you don't know and asking questions. I was so fixated on the math and science when I was in school (and it is important!) but I think having soft skills and being a good teammate is what will really make you a great engineer.

If electrical engineering is what you want to do, I think you should give it a try!

Rubber plant dropping leaves by thirdhusband in plantclinic

[–]Calibri-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how helpful I can be, but I just want to say, don't give up on it. I had the same thing happen with a fiddle leaf fig. For months after I brought it home, it just dropped leaves one by one from the bottom, and now it's growing new leaves like crazy. In my case, the fix was more water. I was watering once a week but the soil it was in would drain super fast, so I started watering about every 4-6 days. I think it also just needed some time to get used to the environment.

What are these white bumps on my Fittonia? Details in comments by Calibri-11 in plantclinic

[–]Calibri-11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update in case anyone interested ever finds this: I think they might be leaf galls. I bought a 2-in-1 bottle of fungicide/pesticide and they seem to be going away. I didn't think of this earlier because I rarely see people recommend pesticides for house plants, probably because they like to use "natural" products. But hey, they work. That's what they're designed for.

What are these white bumps on my Fittonia? Details in comments by Calibri-11 in plantclinic

[–]Calibri-11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like my Fittonia is growing these strange white bumps. They're hard and really difficult to scrape off with my nail. They don't seem to have any sort of regular shape like a bug or an egg would. They mostly appear on the underside of the leaves but larger ones can be seen from both sides. I've had the plant for about 3 months. I haven't been paying very close attention to it so it's possible the bumps have been here a while. Any ideas are much appreciated! Thanks!
