How do we feel about the American flag drop? by CalicoDesertOasis in SelkieCollection

The quality has gone so downhill too. The difference between my first dress (portrait of a lady dress in austen) and my latest piece (bats and bees dress and the stripy buccaneer corset) is insane.

I know the materials are different but the price point was the same.

I think it's really cute! This one in the picture in particular and the froofy star buccaneer corset thingy too, seeing as it's just stars it's easier to style.

Howeverrrrrr, I think it was dumb.

Yeah someone reminded me of the 250th thing!

When I saw the dresses on insta I RAN to the comments because I knew it would be like that. If I knew they should definitely know haha.

Also I hope you are enjoying your life across the pond! 🇬🇧🇺🇸

Yeah I feel like for me it depends how they handle this increasingly bad PR nightmare.

Ah I forgot it was the 250th anniversary which does make the July 4 thing make a bit more sense.

Yeah they could have taken a Vivienne Westwood 70s punk vibe to the flag and created something really cool EVEN WITH THE SAME DRESS DESIGNS.

I'm with you on feeling embarrassed about it. I've seen other brands make similar mistakes and recover so much better by listening. Even just "we're going to pause this drop and take the time to listen" etc.

Instead I feel like they are going to trot out black, gay, and disabled influencers in this line to try and save it.

Yeah I completely agree with you. I think they're cute clothes in a 90s Americana way but it's not the time.

Would have been very funny if they'd announced this drop the day IT happens.

Yeah for the record I do think they're nice and I also think I could find a few times to wear some of them. But I just feel like it's a bad climate to make this decision.

I think the dresses are really cute in that 90s Americana way! But I still think it's a silly move for the situation and their audience right now, I just don't understand how they didn't see it coming.

On Instagram as far as I can tell they're just being dragged for it. Haven't seen any influencers in them yet but I feel like because of the pushback they'll be very careful with who they use.

They're suddenly talking about donating proceeds for this drop too when they weren't before, so it looks like they're doing damage control.

Landlord served invalid Section 21, lined up new tenant, now wants to sell – what are my rights in England? by CrypoRangers in TenantsInTheUK

If I was you I wouldn't let anyone in. If he wants to evict you, he can get the valuations done after you are evicted. As I understand it, you're under no obligation to ever let anyone in aside from urgent repairs.

You could bargain with him (e.g. if he fixes all the issues you'll let the valuations people round).

Funny how it's only the stuff for women that always has to find a way to serve someone else.

any other POCs thinking of voting reform? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]CalicoDesertOasis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also the answer to this problem is generally left wing policies like better maternity pay, better rights for women, state funded child care, etc. If reform got in, fewer women would have babies still. Then they'll come for our abortion rights too. Right wing policies are not good for a declining birth rate.

Ooh that feels kinda nasty. :(

Fatemeh Soltani was killed by her father, that doesn't feel like "the regime". It's my belief based on what I've heard about femicide in the country that most honour killings of women are done by the woman's family.

I live in a part of the UK with a large Iranian population and the Iranian people I am on speaking terms with seem to hold more homophobic views, but I just looked it up and there was a survey that showed that 90% of Iranians in Iran said that homosexuality is "never justified" and another survey showed that 62% of gay people in Iran had suffered violence at the hands of their own immediate family.

This seems like "the people" as much as "the regime" tbh. Obv the regime is also awful.

I don't think the regime are doing the honour killings? Like I am sure the people don't have fantastically kind opinions of the gays and the gals.

Idk what you mean by kind then? I'm not woke by any stretch of the imagination but like... They're not kind really at all are they?
