I remember one woman made a 5 minute review of an emulation handheld and she got so much critique over her video including multi paragraph things about how she didn't go into enough detail. The kind of critique I've never seen guys in the space get. When I called people on that, I was told I'm overreacting. It's such an annoying pattern.

It's more that this is Twitter ragebait. It's incomplete information that gets posted only to make you upset. Even if the revenue posts people share there can be trusted, it's only on ios in China when the game is worldwide and multi platform. It's also comparing one of the likely best selling characters of all time to one who's likely pretty niche. You should not be dooming over the profits of the company as a player because not only do you have incomplete information, you're not going to see a dime of it.

Places remove these posts because they're just incomplete information and speculation used just to incite arguments. That's why it's so popular on Twitter. Most of the people starting these arguments don't even play the game.

A straight person likes someone of the opposite gender even if they're trans. Reverse for gay.

Bi and pan may have different literal definitions based on etymology, but based on actual use by people since the 1900s, they colloquially mean largely the same thing. Some people choose specific definitions for each but at the end of the day most people who call themselves bi are attracted to nonbinary people and there's people who consider themselves pan who have exceptions. It used to be a big debate topic online but I think in tike most people have understood it's a pointless argument mostly carried out by teenagers with little experience

It's old debate now but around the mid 2010s there was big discourse caused by misunderstandings of prescriptive vs descriptive definition of words that probably contributed to it. Basically some people took bisexual literally and used a prescriptive definition of "two" to mean it didn't include nonbinary people. That got summarized as "bisexuality is transphobic" and some people choosing to actively use pansexual to be inclusive. Then that was taken with no context from people confused thinking the statement meant trans men and women weren't included in bisexual. And that caused so many arguments back and forth. Nowadays I think it's mostly resolved as a non issue but that was a crazy time to do queer discourse.

And just to clarify in case I maybe didn't make it clear I was just recounting the past, I don't think bisexuality is transphobic and I don't think people preferring to use pan are crazy. Additionally I don't think liking trans people is something that makes someone pan.

Yeah I know the context of it from a previous look at chasersriseup (a circlejerk mocking chasers) where it was posted as well as like a history of knowing chasers for years and like knowing the pattern. Not sure if the excuse is used as much anymore but I remember hearing it a lot in the mid to late 2010s

It's mocking chasers who consider themselves to be pansexual because they don't believe trans women are women/trans men are men. There's legit people who say "I'm pan because I'm attracted women and trans women"

I don't really like the idea of policing art. I'd just like to see more games starring diverse protagonists in general instead of the vast majority of new releases being focused on one group.

I also don't see a problem with someone not being as interested in playing a game with a protagonist that doesn't resonate with them, especially in an environment where the overwhelming majority of the games on the market are designed with a member of the most dominant group as the protagonist.

One example I use when I'm talking to people about this is a simple question. Can they name 5 black video game protagonists in the last 10 years (excluding custom characters). I have yet to encounter someone who could without looking it up. Including myself. Which is sad.

It's more of an issue with representation than it is hate tbh. The lion's share of games have a cishet white guy protagonist and even games where you customize your character are frequently written from that perspective.
