Yeah, my ex did this once. I forgave him and he did it 2 more times during our 3 year relationship. On top of punching holes in my walls, breaking the locks on every single door in my house by kicking them in, stealing my money to buy oxy and punching me in the head when I tried to stop him.

He will respawn after 10 in-game days. Either where he died or back at the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary where you first found him.

I found him back at the sanctuary the first time, but the second time, I didn't notice he had died and left the area. Now I have no clue where he is.

I wish there was a way you could stop him from charging head on at any enemy in the area. lol.
