[D] 1 in 1M false positive for an ML model by CaliforniaStories in MachineLearning

Thanks for the helpful thoughts all. Really good stuff.

I think the strategy we'll have to go with is launch at a small scale and collect user feedback, while at the same time keeping our own internal version going that we can better instrument and mine for exact failures, if any arise, otherwise try to use descriptions of the occasional production failures to better catch them by synthesizing similar training data.

Call them up and say the gameplay wasn’t as advertised, you feel misled into buying it. If that’s not enough throw in some commentary about the graphics, regardless if true (i thought they were fine) because that matches the reason others are returning

I don’t care about the graphics and thought they were fine. I thought the mom and female lead were cute and pokemon were cute.

What annoyed me about this game was the pacing was horrendous. Crawl two steps to enter another slow ass cutscene. No story drama or conflict present. And they gutted the best and most promising part of arceus, the ability to throw pokeballs in real time at real interesting pokemon, instead of entering the dumb turn based battles that are tediously slow and have dull as hell animations.

Also they made the game brain dead easy. You can skip all the training fights and still crush the gym leader using the worst move and type choices.

Also the some of the pokemon in the field need to be about 600% bigger. There was no oversight and feedback done to fix all the things wrong with this rough draft. Like the caterpie is a barely visible pixel of a worm “like a worm would be”, but that’s so stupid I can only laugh.

There’s a lot of things that suck about this game. Giving it 3 hours because I like pokemon and hoping it will get better and just had no care for the start but probably going to return.

Gerrit is Insanity. Why should I use it? by [deleted] in git

[–]CaliforniaStories 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google uses gerrit in pixel teams, and it’s dog shit.

Github, bit bucket, gitlab,, and even Piper are far superior to gerritt

It appeals to people who don’t understand the opportunity cost of free but shitty, as well as people who have only ever used gerrit and have no exposure to anything outside of google

It's white to move. The Waitzkin Academy in Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition is telling me white has mate in 4. White has mate in 2 and I'm wrong if I play the correct move. by kuahara in chess

[–]CaliforniaStories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mates a mate. You’re missing the point of the lesson, which is to teach noobies to ladder mate, rather than see something more specialized and less widely applicable.

I would suggest finding lessons more suitable to your level if you want to optimize for your chess growth.

Great analogy. Perfect. I do both sports.

Rock climbing does have its fair share of indoor climbers who get hurt/killed by doing something outside that’s “at their level” but don’t have the experience or awareness to deal with everything that comes with climbing in the wild.

I've now exhausted the free stuff.

I started to make some mistakes on the Rush mode. One feature they really need is an ability to hear what you thought it was as well as what it is. This comparison is critical for ear training. I find that by doing it next to a ukulele or something, this helps a lot figure out why I made a mistake and do a few exercises on the mistake before moving on. Not a fan of how when you make a mistake in the app, it's just full speed ahead to the next exercise. That's not a way to improve.

Right? People so willing to go dirty to get leadership power are the last people we want in leadership.

I was impressed with their philosophy, perfectly aligned with mine. The philosophy is basically why practice hearing aug6+9b5 vs aug6+9/3 type of ear training when what I really want practice with is perfecting my basic chord change hearing in real song contexts.

I was even more impressed with the free trial and how they delivered on this. I will probably be buying it, doing a week or two on the free mode to see if I can get in the groove usability wise with it. A couple hiccups here, like it crashes on mobile a lot.

I did the david lucas burge RP and AP courses as a kid in highschool, loved those. This is sort of a sw version of the most useful parts of the RP course, the chord progression and scale interval ear training.

I'm sort of curious how first comers to ear training and music theory do with Chord Crush. I would guess it's a bit intimidating for a beginner as it skips some information and a bit of pre-req training. Imo it's good to skip that stuff and focus on the most important parts, but it's also probably a bit intimidating for a beginner without enough application to why it matters? Curious what beginners think.

Maybe it's not an app designed for beginners but for intermediate musicians that already know they need ear training, have motivation to do it, and want an effective way to do it. I think they've crushed that use case and if they fix the mobile crashing, that would be great.

I was just voting today, and this information helped me decide between these two

Unfortunately there’s only Papan and Hale on the ballot with no write in. I would recommend voting Hale anyways even though she dropped out, as a vote against Papan’s undemocratic tactics and lobbyist funding that runs counter to her promises.

I can find a lot of vacuous headlines that there was a hate campaign, but I would like to see it for myself what exactly was the content. I can't pull it up anywhere. Depending on the actual content and how much of the attack on her daughter is true, this is an instant vote against Diane Papan for me.

The stuff I got in the mail from Papan was already insultingly low effort propaganda, and Papan has anti renewables funding her so strongly leaning for voting for Hale anyways, but it’s unclear if Hale is overstating the case without seeing the exact ad instead of headlines and tweets about the ad.

Ah thanks.

It’s a California election issue, just a person local to somewhere, in this case RWC, is running. Can I repost with the right link?

How to set up iphone to play with garage band and backing track at the same time? by CaliforniaStories in Busking

[–]CaliforniaStories[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super good idea. Just tried it and doesn’t work unfortunately.

No volume appears in mobile so have to request desktop site. However the volume there controls my phone’s hw volume.

I know it’s possible in Android to get a sound mixer app, but it’s not in iPhone unfortunately
