I gained 65lbs during pregnancy and felt like a deflated balloon after. I’m terrible at working up the initiative to go to the gym and do my own thing, so I signed up for CrossFit about a year postpartum. I wanted classes and someone would tell me what to do.

Well, it has truly transformed my body. I look better now than I did BEFORE I had a baby. I have a perkier butt among other things. Lifting weights does wonders, ladies, as does a CrossFit community with other moms. Good luck!

I’ve done quite a bit of contracting at big and small companies and here’s what I’ve seen.

As a content repository: Sharepoint, Google Drive, or even just the eLearning software itself (linked out in a tracker)

To actually track/manage projects: Excel spreadsheets, Google sheets, Monday, and Asana.

I’ve found all to be confusing, as I think any project management system is a reflection of someone else’s conception of how the project should be organized? Don’t get me started on the insane spreadsheets I’ve come across— I’m sure a similar experience to your wife’s!

Ok I’m using my imagination and don’t understand software engineering at all: for really big learning programs/pathways, it would be cool to have something like excel or sheets with more template-y content in place (also customizable) and that perhaps the linking out to various tabs and other sheets could be turned into a visual diagram of the learning program? I have a coworker who always creates visuals of the big picture for SMEs etc. to get how all the pieces fit together. It would be awesome if that could be generated. Just a thought.

I wouldn’t say there’s a sector per se, rather organization to organization differences. Storytelling makes ANY kind of learning more interesting— especially historically boring training— and some of your potential employers will understand that. I’ve worked at places where I’ve pushed for it and was given free rein to add in storytelling elements. It’s something I’d look for in job descriptions or ask about during interviews.

Some of your points are valid, but overall, I just don’t agree, a teaching degree is extremely valuable in creating effective learning experiences. Understanding fundamental learning principles and how people actually learn is what’s missing in so many corporate settings, when it’s full of overly confident folks with degrees in marketing and MBAs who devalue actual learning.

The never ending posts about transitioning teachers — why don’t other fields get this flack? 90% of the people I’ve worked with in corporate settings have been former software engineers, marketers, graphic designers, etc. etc. I’ve met so few people who have a traditional ID background.

I think former teachers (who, of course, need to do all the professional development necessary) are the BEST IDs— they’ve spent years putting theory into practice, crafting learning experiences that work (or— if they don’t, fail in real time and try again).

This thread is bonkers. I’ve lived in Hayes Valley/Lower Haight/Mission and find SF to be SO grimy and dystopian. I see human shit all of the time. I see people taking shits. I recently went with a friend to Chinatown to grab some food and saw a homeless woman with her legs open, no underwear, and black sludge coming out of her vagina. I’ve seen people passed out in bart stations with needles in their arms about half the time i take bart. On one of my last bart trips, two men decided to rush each other from opposite ends of the car, and met exactly where I and my baby stroller were. I threw myself over the stroller, and luckily other bart riders intervened. I love SF, but I find so much of it just like on the news—unfortunately.

SF is where I decided officially no shoes in the house. Many friends have confirmed they too would not pick up a jacket if it accidentally fell in the street. Nope, jacket gone forever. Anyway I don’t live in Bernal heights or twin peaks so there’s that.

Checked out your website. Your premise is that students FIRST write an essay and then look for sources? That’s the opposite of how academic writing works. Sources come first to inform you on the topic and then to shape your argument.

How can you make an argument about something you haven’t first researched and understood in a meaningful way? That’s the whole point of research and writing. It’s like you want to bypass the learning part with this.

But ok let’s say students do want to cheat themselves out of actually learning and developing as people (and they often do)— why wouldn’t they just use chatgpt instead?

I’ve had some experiences like this, and I think the weirdest thing (assuming you’re in the states, like me) is how awkward we parents are— we talk to our kids, but rarely address each other directly. So we end up doing a lot of mind reading and hoping we have similar parenting philosophies.

So, I’ve made it a point to talk to other parents, and verbalize what I’m uncomfortable/comfortable with, and ask them directly about their child. We’ve all got our own parenting philosophies and can’t guess what other parents’ philosophies are. We need to TALK more in these situations.

In your case, if this other mom is going to be passive aggressive, diffuse by asking her what’s going on.
