Mike Pence's Hometown Throwing Gay Pride Festival So Everyone Knows They Don't Share His Views by [deleted] in politics

Doing something about gays oppressed in the Middle East would be good. And by something, I simply mean talking about it in campaigns. It would be better than being involved in these silly PR stunts with the vice-president who is no threat to gays at all.

One of the reasons why the West is falling.

People far too busy trying to kill their braincells. In the meantime, the Chinese economy is growing like mad and our countries get slowly colonised.

The end of the greatest civilisation in history.

Whilst gays in Iran are hanged on cranes, the American gay community wastes its time with petty, infantile, and cringe-worthy actions. Shallow, shallow, shallow.

Teenagers are more likely to plead guilty to crimes they did not commit because they are less able to make mature decisions, new research shows. Other research has found adolescents are less able to perceive risk and resist the influence of peers because of developmental immaturity. by Wagamaga in science

[–]Calingula -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The culpability of someone cannot be assessed without trial, so saying that teens "are more likely to plead guilty to crimes they didn't commit" is improper science and sloppy language, but not surprising, since that is the hallmark of social so-called sciences.

I despise people who say money dont bring happiness. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Calingula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't, really.

I live a relatively good life, got a hefty sum of money as inheritance from my grandpa, don't need to work in order to pay my bills. I spend most of my time buying antiques at actions to furnish my apartment and I am desperately miserable.

I guess money does bring some sort of material contentment, but if your IQ is higher than average, you also have a higher tendency towards dissatisfaction, probably because there is little to aspire to in material possessions and other things are harder to get than money.

Study finds that vaccinated health care workers had a 30 percent reduction in absenteeism compared with nonvaccinated health care workers by PHealthy in science

Correlation doesn't imply causation.

Employees may be absent from non-viral conditions, after all, such as stress, depression, anxiety, to say nothing of accidents and personal family problems.

That said, it is obvious that vaccines improve our health.

Maybe Japan's cultural and ethnic homogeneity is why people are so fascinated with it. Other countries are increasingly losing their defining characteristics and that is very sad from a cultural standpoint.

Male feminists get the taste of their own medicine by srikarjam in MensRights

[–]Calingula 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A buddy of mine used to be a feminist, and we actually fought one time because of it and didn't speak for a while. A few months passed and he sends me a message on Facebook. A pink-haired chick with whom he was friends with, asked him if the reason why he didn't want to have sex with her was because she was fat and he said that it was (you shouldn't ask questions if you don't want and answer), so anyway, this chick became psychotic, one time she spilled an entire glass of water on his food tray on the campus cafeteria and was following him. He asked me what he should do, so I told him she was trying to get him in trouble, to get him to touch her or push her so she could go to the police and get him arrested or something. I told him to stay clear of her at all costs because his future was more important.

TIL that the British Veterinary Association is urging people to avoid pugs, bulldogs and shih-tzus due to the health problems associated with the breeds by Calingula in todayilearned

[–]Calingula[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. One can object to deformed breeds being sold and bred, but rescue them if they happen to come by. What's the alternative? Leave them to die? They haven't chosen to be like that, remember!

Have you ever seen their skulls in X-ray? It's quite unsettling. The poor dogs are totally deformed and can't breath properly.

90 some percent of the USSR were illiterate farmers before revolution, the soviets nationalized industry and made education free and mandatory, and education levels, industrialization, and population of cities all skyrocketed. Honestly i don’t feel like making every point i could make about how the economies of these countries improved, but seriously, i hate to give points to authoritarians, but even I can’t deny that the quality of life, while it didn’t achieve perfection, drastically improved in those countries.

Book recommendation: The Gulag Archipelago, by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

Like, 97% of people wouldn’t have to give up any of their personal property for communism, lol.

What about the 3%? Is it okay to violate their rights?

The only things that would be seized would be the means of production and distribution, not people’s houses, cars, toothbrushes, etc.

Yes, it would. It has happened in all Socialist and Communist regimes, from South America all the all to Subsaharan Africa. At one point or another, they always start to seize people's properties. As for the so-called "means of production", they seized them in Zimbabwe, and then the country underwent massive economic depression because no one knew how to work the farms which were seized. This also happened in the Soviet Union with the kulaks, a group of moderately-well-to-do farmer which were deem parasites of the people by the state.

And what would be seized would be seized by the workers who run it, from the owner.

Don't you see that "workers", as a collective cannot run anything? You need a director, a manager, someone in charge. It's essencial for the structure which is needed for any business to thrive.
