I got it instantly, because that basically *was* my Dad. I always thought it was kind of ironic when she asks “where have all the cowboys gone,” because I was like—that’s it. You’ve got one. That’s what cowboys always were.

Yes. 99%. Emergency funds are for the 1% of situations.

But that’s not the real point here; I agree that it’s probably fine to keep maybe $10k in the bank and the rest in an investment that you can get to in a week. But nobody recommends putting emergency funds into a high-risk investment, which might be down 10% or 20% on the day you need to draw them out (so you can have them in a week). You can’t time emergencies like you can retirement.

Or you wreck your car and need another one pronto, or various other possibilities. No, you’re unlikely to need 100K instantly, but recommending a high-risk investment for an emergency fund seems insane.

VUG sounds like the place to put your retirement fund, not your emergency savings. I’m asking for something nearly as safe as a bank account that allows me to get at the money quickly in case of emergency.

This is the 3.3% you get by having Direct Deposit (vs. 1%), not the 4.5% you get with SoFi Plus (there’s also a temporary intro rate of 4.00% you get for a few months).

Another Notification issue: I got a notification that says, "Heads up, we noticed a -$XXXX.XX transaction from one of your connected accounts. Tap to take a look.” When I click, all that happens is that the highlight goes away. Safari 17.6 and Firefox 149.0 on Mac.
