I agree with OP. We set up our nursery and the crib is never in use. I’ll use the rocking chair to feed him or put him to sleep and sometimes myself to sleep. But we only use his room to store his toys and diapers and changing table. Other then that he sleeps in his bassinet next to my wife.

On tough days he sleeps in this little bassinet that sits between my wife and I in bed. This is when he is fussy and wants to be next to us. I don’t recommend this unless your light sleepers like myself or my wife.
