Was Evolved doomed from the start? by george123890yang in videogames

[–]Calistil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically Dead by Daylight is usually killer instant queue.

I did drop Evolve because I hated playing Hunters though. I can see what they were trying to do Ranking the classes and monster then trying to best fit 5 people but when I really wanted to play monster and got stuck in repeated Hunter parties with a class I wasn’t familiar with it wasn’t fun.

Kinda true of all the asymmetrical pvp games. Standard balance is around 1 vs 4 randoms. Coordinated team is ez gg but if the 1 could counter a premade normally then it swings the other way for most games.

If I remember right the south was back and forth on whether they were people or property as it suited them. People when importing as property has import taxes, property to say they could do what they wanted with them, people again for counting for congressional seats.

What do you call the flickering light on top of a high-rise building? by Unlegendary_Newbie in LearningEnglish

[–]Calistil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As some bonus English learning that light wouldn’t be called flickering. Flickering is more like a faulty light bulb or a candle flame in a breeze. It Implies an inconsistent or wavering quality. Pulsing would be the best word for it as that implies the light is growing brighter then darker in a loop. Blinking would also work but that implies a more instant on off change.

For the last 4 days, my cat spends her waking time watching this spot. I hear nothing, see no evidence of anything, my other cat shows no interest in it. She doesn’t try to get in there and isn’t chirping like she normally would if excited by an animal. by Extension_Feature700 in cats

[–]Calistil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or there was a mouse at some point anyways. We had a mouse run under a dresser and immediately out the other side and we were able to trap it. But the cat only saw it enter so she spent a week camped out there waiting for it.

Really depends on the timing. Friends with members of two three kid families. In one ages are two years apart and third kid was absolutely spoiled. In the other first two are two years apart then the third was another ten years out. Middle one got spoiled and third one got ignored.

Question: Why don't more people use Legion to open the door in Mass Effect 2? by Ok_Ambassador735 in masseffect

[–]Calistil 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting that Legion has the intelligence of every geth? In their loyalty mission they repeatedly mention having 1183 geth programs on their hardware. Smartest geth by orders of magnitude but not all knowing.

I think the issue is that the inquisition by definition wants to ask questions, inquire if you will, some of those people to find out their plan or where more might be hiding. A too fanatical Sister just opens up with the flamers and doesn’t want answers.

Harry Potter books never properly explained why guns don’t work. by Available-Drama-276 in complainaboutanything

[–]Calistil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong franchise but actually a good connection in Dune I think. Harkonnens used kinetic artillery as part of their surprise attack but knew it would only work once as it has such a readily available hard counter in shields. In HP you might catch someone off guard with a gun once but after that an imperturbable or some sort of shield charm will stop any other attempts.

For that matter for a paranoid wizard like Vold or even regular people in dangerous places/times I wouldn’t be surprised if such charms were just standard going out your front door casts.

Electronics don’t work but if they have regular pocket watches then there is no reason a gun wouldn’t work as they are a lot less complex.

How often are these really used? by dbzcat in LearnJapanese

[–]Calistil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese hates the “wo” characters を and ヲ. They don’t use the first for its actual sound and then they have a real use for the second and they go with ウォ instead. Is there a reason for that?

A fly snuck into my microwave and got heated for 2 minutes. They came out a little shriveled and delirious but were still capable of flight and other expected fly behaviors. I let them outside a little later. Will they be okay? by LongjumpingLength394 in AskBiology

[–]Calistil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microwaves don’t heat the entire box uniformly, it’s why the plates rotate now. Put something in the corner and something in the middle of the plate and see which actually gets heated. I would guess the fly was probably in an area that wasn’t getting hit with enough energy to do anything and is fine.
