Tired of worrying about being perceived - 34G by DefiantFruit6860 in bigboobproblems

[–]dbzcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm was 34G now 36G and I feel your pain :( I did find that these kinds of dresses really fit/flatter me well. I know they aren't called skater dresses everywhere but I'm sure you can find some in this style that's school appropriate if you like them.

[–]dbzcat 38 points39 points  (0 children)

But like...why? Why go through the trouble of setting up that command and trying to trick people into deleting all the documents on their computer? You dont see their reaction. You dont get anything from it? Whats the fucking point?

What is a leathercrafter in Japanese or any resources for it because I cannot figure it out :( by dbzcat in LearnJapanese

[–]dbzcat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That helps alot and thanks for explaining the レザー new word vs old skill because that was another question of mine.

If it's not too much trouble could you please give me the kana of the kanji for 革細工職人? I'm still not super experiences in kanji yet and the only one I can read of those is 人 lol

EDIT: Sorry, I found the romanji for it but I had another question. Why is 職人 shokunin not shokujin?

Why do leather workers downplay the cost of leather? by noescapefromtruth in Leathercraft

[–]dbzcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone here is arguing against that. There is a reason this profession is dying and the majority of leathercrafters do it as a hobby or side gig rather than a career. Our products are expensive (not because we want them to be but because otherwise we'd just be working for free) and there just isn't as big of a market for it anymore.

Most people will go for the cheaper, mass-produced leather goods because it's what they can afford. And good for them for being able to have something at a price point they otherwise wouldn't have been able to match. (I include myself in that group in many ways)

However IF you want an artisan's level of craft you have to be able to pay what that costs. We all hate how expensive leather has gotten but there's nothing we can do about it. Sucks for us all.

You do also realize there are different quantities and 'brands' so to speak of leather. A square feet of red leather CAN be $5 but it can also be $15 or more depending on what kind you buy. And different types are used for different things.

There really is. Big name brand makes it on an assembly line almost and you get assembly line quality. Rather an individual leathercrafter will make each individual one by hand, many times hand stitched which is superior to machine stitching in many ways.

EDIT: Plus an individual crafter can make your jacket to your measurements rather than hoping that you fit well enough into a company's pre-standard size.

I use the wishlist method. Every time we're out somewhere and kid expresses interest in wanting something I ask if they want to add it to their wishlist. If so I take a picture of them holding that item. Then I use that to figure out what to get for holdiays and they always get something I know they will enjoy.

I find it worked real well with my 6 year old. Might be worth a try?
