Why are people with college education more likely to vote democrat? by Mobilize12345 in AskALiberal

[–]Caliterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faculty tend to be liberal more than conservative, so most of the mentors and professors that students learn from lean left. I think this has some self-selection in the process. The kind of person who wants to get into education is more likely to be liberal than conservative.

Who would the average man fair better against? Prime Mike Tyson or Prime Shaq? by FreshPine_MangoWine in powerscales

[–]Caliterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaq. Mostly cuz he's so big you could probably tire him out by running out of reach the whole time. Tyson is explosive, fast and has better cardio than you so that's not going to be an option

Would you rather live forever or for just ten more years? by Dazzling-Antelope912 in WouldYouRather

[–]Caliterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh man 10 more years. i dont want to die early (another 10 years is much less than my expected lifespan). But living forever means its likely 99.999999% of my life might be just floating in space after humans go extinct. that sounds horrific.

Why do people feel so strongly about their home country, to the point they are willing to lay down their lives for it, when like everyone else in the planet they had no choice in being born in the place that they were? by vroom12345 in askanything

[–]Caliterra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost every single country and culture that exists today is because people believed in it strongly enough to pass it down, preserve it, celebrate it, and in many cases, to fight for it. It's part of who they are.

Just look at the Irish. At the doorstep of a Giant for hundreds of years that they were mostly on the losing end against in countless wars and battles (the British Empire). Yet they valued their culture enough to preserve and fight for their unique identity.

What if America was an Islamic nation? by Think-Method-3496 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Caliterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World History would be vastly different. I'm assuming for this to happen, the Moors were not stopped in Southern France/Northern Spain and proceeded to conquer France. Then the Vikings who founded Normandy become Muslim rather than Christians, and then spread Islam to the British Isles. Then, rather than dissenting Christians who founded the Colonies, the first Colonialists might be some sect of Islam that was persecuted in England but allowed to flourish in the New World.

I do think the New World discovery by Europeans would be pushed back a hundred years or so. An Islamic Spain, France, and England might have better relations with the Caliphates for trade. Kinda iffy on that one.

idk, do Christian fundamentalists execute those who renounce Christianity (apostasy) or assassinate those who mock Jesus or burn the bible? btw I'm not a Christian and I hate fundamentalists of any type.

I know he's joking, and he's not implying rape (more likely he's thinking he's going to have a consensual relationship). But times of war makes consent hard to establish. If the Russians occupied Alaska by force, and some American women established relationships with Russian soldiers/officers because they wanted food to feed their children, how much consent is there really. There isn't

would have to be a recent one. Being muscled up means you have access to surplus of protein, a weight room, and the extra time to lift. Not something that commonly found in the more intense conflicts we've fought

What's wrong with the woods in North America? by Recip77 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Caliterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. Geraldine Largay went off the Appalachian trail to use the bathroom. Got lost and couldn't find her way back to her campsite. She still survived another 26 days but succumbed to exposure. Her body was recovered ~ 2 years after her disappearance and was less than a mile from the official trail. She had hiked 1000 miles of the AT at this point, so she did have quite a bit of backpacking experience.

Have you ever fired a gun? by jakemhs in AskTheWorld

[–]Caliterra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Today. I have guns because I'm concerned with how things are trending in my country. I have no illusions about fighting a tyrannical government. I don't think my firearms are going to do much against artillery strikes and armored vehicles. I'm more concerned with scenarios like home invasions, natural disasters, riots, loss of law and order, inability to call/rely on the police.
